Four of Cups: Flowers in the Weeds

When life is not coming up roses, look to the weeds and find the beauty hidden within them. –L.F.  Young

What do you do, when life is not cruising along in line with your preferences?

Maybe you sell for a living, and the world doesn’t seem to be buying. Or maybe you got a new job, and it’s just not what you’d hoped.  Maybe your relationship isn’t full of relating. Or maybe your kids are giving you fits. Whatever you’re looking at you don’t like, and it’s got you wound up in knots.

But here’s where it gets interesting. You have a choice, in every given moment.

You can focus on what’s wrong and work up a full-blown emotional explosion. You just start ramping up what you don’t like in your head and it grows.  Or you can reach for whatever feels the least little bit better and look for some beauty in the weeds.

Seek the beauty in the weeds. There always is some. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

How you feel about an unwanted situation is never, ever dictated by that situation. It cannot be by definition, because reaction is never external. A sense of well-being is not something that life bestows upon us, by doling out superior circumstances.

We generate our own happiness, through actively and consciously focusing on what pleases us, what we appreciate in any situation. This has nothing to do with outer circumstances and everything to do with what we practice every day.

We give the outside world far too much credit for (and therefore, too much control over) the state of our own well-being. Well-being is always an inside job, friends. When you don’t like what’s in front of you, fair enough. Your flowers aren’t blooming. You’re in the middle of the weeds. So start looking for the beauty there. Understand when life isn’t flowing smoothly, you are getting a nudge–maybe a hard nudge–to shift your energy. And that’s truly a helpful thing.

If we habitually complain and fuss (even internally) about everything that’s wrong in our world? Rough times are going to hit harder.  But if we have a habit of looking for the beauty anyplace we can find it, weeds or not? Life feels better, right then and there.

The less it feels like you have to appreciate in a given moment, the more important it is to do just that.

It helps. Every single time, it helps.

Next week in Tarot: Dream it Up

We have the Four of Cups (or 4 of Water from the Good Tarot) and the Venice Mallow Hibiscus from the Botanical Inspirations deck: Delicate, Fleeting Beauty.

I just got back from flower shopping with my daughter. She took home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html some Hibiscus that was speaking to her. Hibiscus is associated with love, dreams and divination. The Venice Mallow variety is sometimes known as the “Flower-of-an-hour” because of the short time it opens its blooms in the morning.

If you see a bloom? Take it in, right then and there.

The Four of Cups is always a dreamy energy–here, we’re considering what we don’t have, or perhaps imagining what we might want. You are the dreamer of this dream. It’s up to you to guide it.

This week, I expect we’ll have opportunities to dream up, or dream down wherever we are standing. This active steering of attention and imagination is a very effective way of flowing energy.  Make a practice of putting out what you want to get, because that’s how you tune this. And a very easy way to find the sweet spot here is looking for the good, the flowers, wherever you are.

Weeds or not, look for the flowers!

Are you finding flowers in your weeds?

If you want some support re-orienting, give me a holler for a one-on-one.

Five of Pentacles & Ten of Swords: Shakeups

Sometimes, structures or situations in our lives break. Maybe the working relationship you’ve had stops working. A source of financial stability turns unstable. What you thought you knew no longer is proving true.

Sometimes something breaks in your life and you’re not sure how to fix it.

Now, I can swoop in all Pollyanna and tell you, “Oh, it’s a good thing in the long run! Things happen for a reason. You’ll be better off, once it’s dealt with.”

And likely if I say such things, you’ll want to smack me. I am well aware of this because I kind of feel that way even when I’m telling this to myself.

Doesn’t mean every bit of it isn’t absolute truth. Sometimes the easiest and most direct route, the route of least resistance, tromps us through some chaos. This week? Expect shakeups. Just make sure if they are hitting you? You put them to good use!

Coming Up in Tarot

If I pull a Five of Pentacles (or 5 of Earth, as it’s called in the Good Tarot) for the weekly forecast, good chance I’m going to pull a second card for more guidance. Because, ouch! Here, the extra insight comes in the form of the Ten of Swords. Again, ouch! Finally, we’ve got Violet from Botanical Inspirations, associated with faithfulness and modesty to round out the trio.

Traditionally, the Five of Pentacles points to feelings of lack, being left out in the cold and alone. But thing is, the lack we’re talking with this card is always at least partially illusionary. Tarot fives denote conflict and this conflict? Internal, baby! Chances are, it’s YOU counting yourself out when this card shows up. Know there is help readily available if specifically sought out. And in terms of advice? The Ten of Swords suggests a multi-faceted, from-the-ground-up approach. The Violets suggest being open to learning and faithful to your most important aims here. So, what does this mean in practical terms?

Helpful breaks coming in this week may not be packaged how you’d expect. Understand that resources include MUCH more than the cash in your wallet. Realize that these disruptions can be absolute gold in helping you reach a higher level of competence in whatever area of life they hit. Know that from a higher perspective, you have and are receiving far more blessings than you may be able to see at the given moment.

Opt-in to appreciate. Gratitude immediately softens the energy and helps you shift to a place where you’re more likely to be able to receive intuitive inspiration. And let’s be very clear, here: we WANT the inspiration!

If you’re feeling strung out, put upon and all by your lonesome? Remind yourself it is a transitional thing. Start counting your blessings and count as many as you can find–even tiny ones. Don’t beat up on yourself for where you are or anything else, for that matter–it never helps. And don’t sit around feeling sorry for what doesn’t seem to be working.

That Ten of Swords would have us reassess the situation from the ground up. And please, don’t be too proud or put out to reach out. This has the potential to be a bumpy week. So take nothing for granted. Count each blessing twice! Be open to insights and guidance, regardless of the source. They WILL come to you. Your job is to soften up your emotional state enough you can receive the incoming here. Because that incoming inspiration is what’s going to get you through to the other (better) side of anything and everything. So open up for it!

Are you in the middle of a shakeup?

For some one-on-one support through the transition, give me a holler.

Page of Swords: Gaining Clarity

“Stop trying to think it all through and figure out all the potential avenues yourself. Leave that up to the Universe. Trying to map it all out is slowing you down.”

Damn it!

I’m talking to one of my Tarot people and realize, I’ve been giving out versions of this advice repeatedly lately. Whenever I notice that happening, I know that Tarot is also talking to me.

And the cards I drew for the weekly seem to be putting the punctuation right on this message.

Damn it.

This Week in Tarot: Getting Clearer

Good tarot page of air

Here we have the Page of Swords (or Page of Air) from the Good Tarot, along with Phlox from Botanical Inspirations.: Unanimity & Harmony. (I was going to say Phlox is one of my favorite flowers, but I realized: I always seem to say that. I do love ’em, though!)

This combination says good ideas are afoot. Clarity is within your grasp. You can easily receive inspiration now!

But honestly? I’d keep those ideas that are percolating primarily to myself. Let them develop and brew. The harmony you really want to reach for here, right now, is internal. Be of one mind about something and let your thoughts settle in before you start broadcasting your message.

I would not go looking for a broad agreement this week. I’d be looking for internal agreement. Don’t work on convincing other people in order to reassure yourself. Borrowed confidence never lasts very long anyway. Instead, be reaching for clarity. That’s never going to come from any place outside yourself. You may be inspired to clarity, from something you hear or see. But the click happens inside your head and inside your heart.

Once you are feeling the clarity, though? Sure, run your mouth as you like. Because by that point, you won’t really care what anyone else has to say about it. And in the case of tuning in to your own truth, not giving a damn about what anyone else has to say about it is a really good thing.

Are you in the process of getting clear?

If you need some help, give me a holler for a one-on-one session to assist you in sorting things out.

Strength: All in Your Head

Many associate strength with might–numbers, stature, ability to enforce. I know, that’s how the word is commonly used.

But I don’t think of strength that way at all.

I consider the trait of strength to be personal, individual. So it couldn’t be reliant on outside conditions (e.g. who is biggest) or firepower–it’s not “strength” to be holding the biggest gun. That’s a condition that can change, no doubt about it!

But an inner calmness, a solid rooting in what’s important to you, and holding fast to it? That’s strength, to me at least.

Strength doesn’t need others to agree. Insecurity does. Strength doesn’t need to justify or defend. That’s uncertainty. Strength doesn’t need to struggle, because strength isn’t fighting against anything.

Strength just stands tall, and sure, being true to self above all else.

Strength, from the Zombie Tarot. Because, October.

The “Zombie Protection” bullets here aren’t loaded into a gun. The biggest bullet is shown superimposed on the brain. Get that? Your brain is really your best protector.

Strength doesn’t come from the outside. Like everything else, it’s an inside job. Strength is just knowing, and holding steady to the knowing.

Strength is not measured in force. It's measured in steadiness. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

It’s a good time to harness your strength–call upon your sense of conviction, your beliefs about what’s right, your love for yourself and others to tap into that steady, solid, dependable stream of inner strength. A light touch is all you need–steady, light, sure. That’s the vibration of strength and it will serve you well not only next week.

What’s strength, to you?

Empress Reversed: Your Balance is Your Job

I’m looking to live a more self-centered life.

No, really.

I am looking to stay in my own skin, driving in my own lane, minding my own business and doing the best I personally can.

Minding my own energy.

Really, living an “other-centered” life is not possible anyway. You do what you do for what it gives you, even if what it is giving you right then is a good feeling.

But the less you try to back-seat drive other people’s cars, the better of you’re going to be.

Trying to modulate your behavior and approach to obtain what you want from others is trying to control the inherently uncontrollable. That’s a recipe for headaches, no?

We cannot know what another thinks. We cannot divine what another needs, especially from a universal/eternal perspective. We cannot walk in another’s shoes, much as we may look to understand. There is a limit because we’re individual beings having individual experiences, albeit together.

That doesn’t mean you’ll be lacking compassion. If you don’t feel the need to decide for the world and you don’t feel the need to make something happen and you don’t feel responsible for correcting anyone or any thing, you’re free to just let others be. You can be compassionate, or appreciate, or just will good for them. There are no strings.

Your job is your own balance. Everything else falls in line with that. Click To Tweet

I like living my life without strings. I can make my job one of loving and appreciating as much of this world as I can. I can focus on my expertise: being the best me, I know how to be.

Not my job to keep the world in balance. Just my job to keep me in balance.

How’s your sense of balance?

Video Transcript

Hi. This is Dixie from A Fool’s Journey. I’m getting ready to take a look at what the vibe is doing right now, get a feel for what’s coming up in the next week. Hang on.

Got the Empress reversed. Let’s pull a clarification. Judgement reversed. Okay.

There’s a tendency to try and feel your way around what other people need. And try to…recalibrate your approach, your own needs, your own what-you-do, based on other people’s responses to it. Now, that pretty much never will serve you. And in this case, it’s specifically gonna get in the way of you taking care of yourself.

It’s gonna hamper your creativity. It’s going to interfere or diminish what you’re trying to make.

Just plug into what you’re trying to do. And let the rest of the world take care of itself. Now, that’s never bad advice. But this week, it’s gonna make a big difference both in how well your projects come out, but also in how well the creativity flows and how you feel.

Because quite frankly, it’s draining to try and tilt the world to keep everybody else in balance.

Your job is to keep YOU in balance! Let the rest of the world do their own job. Okay?

That’s my message for right now. I hope it’s helpful to you.

If you are not watching this on afoolsjourney.com, why not? Go check me out. I usually write a little bit extra there. And take care, peace out, have an awesome week! Okay? I’ll see you later.

Bye bye!

Mmmmmmmmmm. Peace out.

Luck in Disguise? Weekly Tarot, June 6, 2017

“Look at it this way,” I said. “A lot of times, what seems like a bad thing is actually the easiest, most direct route to a much better thing, that’s what you really want. It’s the best way to get where you really want to go.”

She liked that idea. It offers relief, during a difficult transition. But I didn’t say it to pass out some soft, squishy, and unrealistic reprieve from her worries.

I said it because it’s true.

Trainwrecks and chaos are the price we pay for quantum leaping. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

Sometimes, what we want is hiding around the corner, sitting right behind what we think we want. And sometimes, we are the only thing standing in our way. (And by sometimes, I mean always.)

Let go of the form and just feel your way through. And keep reminding yourself, you don’t need to call “righteous” or “suckage” in the middle of anything.  Or ever, really.

If you want to pave the way for your luck to feel good, invoke the magickal elixir of appreciation. There’s always something worth shining a happy light on, even if it’s being overshadowed by something you don’t like. Especially if it’s being overshadowed by something you don’t like! Because then is when you need it most.

If you shift your attitude, make yourself a little like the farmer in that Buddhist parable? You can make shifts.

In it, he asks over and over, “Who knows what’s good or bad?” But that’s a trick question. Everything is both good and bad–they’re different sides of the same coin.  It’s not the experiences are good or bad. It’s how you think about them, that determines how you feel about them. You want a happy life? Start learning to see through a happier lens and you move yourself into the flow.

And if we’re not looking to give life a letter grade, instead just taking it as it comes…well, it all goes down WAY easier. Luck can find you because you’re not too busy squirming.

I dig way easier. Don’t you?

This week’s forecast features the Mini Radiant Rider Waite. My Bulk-Time Tarot Experiment seems to be winding down, so I’m calling this the last call. If you want to schedule any time at $50/hour, just shoot me a Paypal and you’ll have on account, to use whenever or however you want. Minimum of one hour for this deal, please.

Be well, friends.
