“Knowing others is wisdom, knowing yourself is Enlightenment.” –Lao Tzu

That’s one definition of an infinite number of potential definitions. How do you define “enlightenment”?

  • Verena says:

My friend who wanted to come for a visit called me to cancel, because she is undergoing a tough emotional time and therefore didn’t get much sleep. Shared a lot of her emotions though, which could be seen as sort of a ‘leakage’, of spilling the beans or contents of her cup, needing my emotional and spiritual support. I’d needed hers as well, but this was just not possible under these circumstances.

  • Mist says:

Enlightenment for me is becoming my higher self and connecting with the Divine. It is knowing rather than believing. I think this comes through gaining wisdom and applying it appropriately. I’m sure there are better ways of defining it and it’s quite possible my definition will change over time.

  • Dixie says:

My husband and I watched something last night, it was about the search for enlightment, and it occurred to me, I don’t exactly have a working definition.

  • josi says:

My definition of this is under construction. I’m interested to see what others come up with though.
