Ace of Swords & Five of Pents: Kaleidoscopes & My Religion

I’ve been feeling more at peace lately. Not 100% of the time naturally–I’m not freakin’ Jesus. But I’ve been gradually feeling much more centered, much more of the time. I’m really glad!

My buddy Josi likened my process to shaking a kaleidoscope until I find an image I am pleased with. It’s an incredibly apt metaphor.

We’ve got multiple interpretations of reality to choose from. Why wouldn’t I pick the one that feels best to me?

If you can only feel peace when what you observe agrees with your idea of right? You’re screwed, plain and simple. There will absolutely ALWAYS be those  who don’t believe as you. There will ALWAYS be people living in a way you don’t see as good or right. There is too much variety among us for any one perspective, any one conclusion, any one idea to be universally adopted. (I actually believe this to be a good thing, but I don’t try to convince anybody else of that.)

Lately, I’ve been thinking of the dramatically diverse viewpoints as being a form of religion. Facts are all well and good, but the interpretations, deciding what anything ultimately MEANS, is a uniquely individual and emotional process.  Conclusions are far more a function of where one’s faith lies, what an individual regards as being true and right, than any objective summary of facts and figures.

What’s more, people are inclined to loudly preach their faith. It’s easy enough to feel bothered if that faith doesn’t match ours. It doesn’t mean those preaching are deficient somehow for looking through a different stained-glass window than I am.

So lately when I run across something that doesn’t work for me, I just say to myself, “That’s not my religion.”

It feels so much better than the arguments I used to have in my head…

My religion is  pretty simple, really. It’s mostly about kindness, respect, and optimism. It’s doing the best I can personally to contribute to the greater good universally. I don’t have to work out the specifics of what “good” must look like on a grand scale. Instead, I find it enough to feel compassion for any who suffer, while trusting in the strength and spirit of each individual to find their own path.

I do me. You do you. It’s a very simple approach to live and I like it that way.

Everyone else is welcome to their own religion, of course. That’s kind of the whole point. Reminding myself of this has been super helpful in keeping my own head on straight. Maybe it will help you a little next week, too. I hope so!

Next Week in Tarot

The softly-colored cards pictured are from the Crystal Visions Tarot.

Ace of Swords, Five of Pentacles

Outlook is the Ace of Swords; advice incoming is via the Five of Pentacles.

I’m expecting people to maintain a very focused (and no doubt narrow) point of reference in the coming week. In other words, perspectives remain polarized.

I’m not seeing much in the way compromise or even passing interest in opposing views. The Ace of Swords indicates a very singular focus. For most, there will be no shades of gray. Definitions of “reality” may be centered around a single idea or story that considered universally true, completely representative of the larger whole.

To some extent, this is also giving me an “if you’re not with us, you’re against us” vibe. While my take on it seems (unfortunately) descriptive of current events, don’t be surprised to see this at the micro/individual level every bit as clearly as in bigger venues. It’s just the flavor of the week, you know? While it’s not my favorite flavor by any means, I try to remember that this sort of focus can produce some stunning shifts. I’ve got to trust in the Universe to orchestrate it all because it’s way above my pay grade to have all the answers for everybody on everything. I’m just looking to guide my own ship, damn it!

The Five of Pentacles is an especially interesting card to see as advice. I normally see this one when someone is feeling “left out in the cold,” short on resources or without adequate support. Tarot fives indicate conflict, but that doesn’t mean the conflict isn’t productive in some way. More importantly, I always get this card when help is already available, although the individual may not yet recognize it as such.

In this picture, four of the five pentacles are behind the woman and her child, with only in plain view. She has more resources and support at her disposal than she knows. (This could be said for pretty much all of us, of course.)

In the context of advice, I’m going to suggest you slow down and take stock next week. You might feel like you’re on the outside and there’s definitely potential for fear, sadness or a sense of alienation. No dramatic action is required to address this, though. Those feelings are temporary, not the last word!

If you need to isolate a little, do that. There is no harm in stepping back and it could provide some relief. Instead of jumping to conclusions, take a break from trying to figure it all out. Ground and breathe.

Comfort yourself and expect to begin to notice the resources and support you do have. Those resources are not only there, but have been all along. Wrap yourself in your own values and realize, you don’t need a congregation of agreement here. Reach for personal stability instead.

Are you finding ways to center yourself now?

If you need some help, give me a holler for a personal consult and we’ll talk.

Five of Pents Rx: What’s Real?

Pretty much every week, I tell myself I’m not going to keep saying what a crazy time this is.

But Holy Hell, it’s a crazy time…

I’m really worn out by the environment right now, which strikes me as an incessant listing of all that we’re against. This wouldn’t be quite so wearing if the lists matched up, but they don’t.

If I’m being honest, thought…the most significant reason it’s wearing is that I’ve got my own list, too. I check it off regularly. just like everybody else. I just don’t advertise it. I find it insulting to be lectured on how to be a decent human, so I don’t want to perpetrate that insult upon others.

But damn, wouldn’t it be nice if they would just see the obvious on their own?!? Har!

I stumbled across a great coping strategy, though. If you can touch base with who you REALLY are for even a moment? Everything else fades into insignificance. All you need is a little reminder of who you really are. Tuning into that makes everything else easy.

Your true self, your soul, is MUCH, much bigger than a specific set of convictions about how to appropriately handle life’s quandaries. You are Universal Energy flow, at the core. Love. Kindness. Goodwill. Appreciation. These feelings are pure vibrations and will always clarify matters, no matter what the circumstances. If you can find ways to tap into those streams, it becomes easy to embody your authentic self.

I’m not saying good intentions aren’t ever part of desires to address the world’s woes. But in order to rise above the woes and see a clear path forward, you’ve really got to tap into the higher vibrations than the woes are made of. Anger, disgust, fear and self-righteousness muck everything up. We get stuck in the mud, arguing about details. Purer energy means purer inspiration and more effective action. It also means a happier life, living true to who you are in the most potent way possible.

Ready to start practicing?

Next Week in the Cards

The cards were both inverted, but I righted them to take a picture. It’s a tab blurry–old lady eyes–but still easier to see upright.

We got a forecast card of the reversed Five of Pentacles, with advice of the reversed Ace of Swords from the Crystal Visions Tarot.

Five of Pentacles in any orientation signals a feeling of being left out in the cold, overlooked or otherwise discarded. it’s a feeling of being adrift and unimportant. Reversed, this cards suggests such conclusions are most likely based on incorrect assumptions.  Like almost every version of this card, there are resources out of view of those suffering, not being seen or acknowledged.

What you perceive as being ill will aimed at you isn’t actually about you. A sense of victimhood or oppression is rooted in perception, not actual hurtful intentions. While the behaviors or outcome may not live solely in your imagination, the interpretations of what it all means probably does. They are not all out to get you!

Bearing this in mind, a reversed Ace of Swords would have us hold off confrontational “tough conversations” this week–they are best held when we’ve gained more clarity. Don’t draw your final conclusions yet because the facts are not all obvious. That’s coming…the Ace of Swords is there but reversed, so facts are surfacing but not in full focus.

For coping, especially look for those sources of support we’re not acknowledging. Look for the good that’s been overlooked and allow the rest of the facts to surface before drawing your lines in the sand or placing your bets or whatever it is that you feel the urge to do.

Yes, there is plenty ugly that’s real. Sometimes, it gets on you. But there is also a bigger, more complete picture you’re not seeing yet. Allow yourself the space to see from higher perspective by tapping into the flow of who you really are. This is where solutions come from!

If you can access feelings of hopefulness, appreciation or love, you’re on the right track. Do whatever it takes to give yourself a healthy dose of that because it’s the antidote to all forms of crazy. Seriously.

Peace out, friends. And I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Ace of Pentacles: Taking Shape

One of the reasons the older, wiser me pulls back in assuming motivation for behaviors came from recognizing how often those assumptions are completely off-base.

Human beings are fabulously complicated creatures. An endless assortment of thoughts, beliefs and perceptions stream through an individual’s consciousness. Personal definition of reality is unavoidably colored by past experience and current state of mind. So how on Earth could I realistically expect to figure this out for someone else? I can barely do so for myself!

I may have ideas or suspicions. And some of those might even be right. Fair enough.

But I care a whole lot less about being right than being happy. So every time I can manage it, I opt to assume the best. I look for the explanations that I am happiest with. I don’t care if my guesstimations are right or not. I just care if I end up feeling better or not. My job is to take care of my own energy–nobody else’s.

The past few weeks have featured a widespread tension, with the overall atmosphere feeling more and more wound up. It was less about agreed-upon reality than about the perception.

But next week, I’m expecting we’ll start seeing more concrete manifestations taking shape, not just feelings.

We can assume whatever we like about what it all means when we see things taking form. A certain amount of evaluation is unavoidable. But I think it would be wise to stand back and not think too hard on it all. The picture is very far from clear yet.

Next Week in Tarot

For outlook, we’ve got the Ace of Pentacles and advice is the reversed Ace of Swords, from the Radiant Mini Rider-Waite deck.

You can listen to a very brief audio version of this forecast here: Tarot Forecast Week of 12/30/19 .

Expect to see actual movement in the real world, as in undeniable physical manifestations beginning to appear from some of the energy that’s just been felt in the past couple of weeks. I’m seeing this largely as a time when obstacles are becoming more obvious, in particular.

So if you get started on something and find problems coming up? Those problems are doing you a favor! They are helping you address what needs to be mastered.

Don’t overthink it, obsess about it or otherwise expect to control anything. It’s not that far along yet. It’s all very new, just getting started. Take note and step back from the situation a little. There’s a real need for perspective that may not be easy to come by initially.

And do your best to bless whatever you see–whether you consider it good or bad.

It’s all necessary. It’s all right. And it’s all right now, just getting started. Are you ready to roll?

Last call for the Holiday Special: I’m finishing up the 2020 Look-Ahead Zodiac readings ($40). I’m doing these audio file + email summary. And Happy New Year to you all!

Five of Pentacles: Accessing Solutions

Used to be, when I had a problem of some sort, I’d dedicate massive amounts of attention (read: obsession) to coming up with a solution. Most pronounced when I was feeling the weight of the problem closing in on me.

After all, we learn that we just need to “work harder” and “try more” to fix things, right?

At this point in my life, though, I think that’s the hard way to do it. I’ve learned that the vibe of a problem is definitely related to the solution, but it’s not on the same channel. I can tune in and get inspiration that gives me helpful, workable solutions but that never happens when I’m neck-deep in freaking out.

Instead, it comes so much more effectively when I can step back and clear my head a little. A little thing somebody says, a spark of an idea, something clicks inside me when I’m not poring over the issue. If I’m saturated in worry, I can never hear it. I have to step back or it doesn’t work.

Are you feeling some kind of crunch or pressure to cope? Maybe it’s time or money that isn’t is sufficient supply. Maybe it’s a health issue or personal relationship that is currently getting under your skin. It could be anything but at the moment, leaving it as-is seems untenable.

Right now, many are feeling an air of urgency to get something “fixed” once and for all, combined with no idea of to how to go about it. This is an understandably uncomfortable combination.

But as is so often the case, the cards have a little advice.

Next Week in Tarot

five of pentacles ace of swords

For the outlook this week, we have a friendlier-looking-than-most version of the Five of Pentacles. Advice comes in via the Ace of Swords. These cards are from the beautiful Star Tarot Deck.

While this image is a softer version of the Five of Pentacles than we usually see, the feel of this card’s vibe is harsh and cold. There’s usually a sense of isolation and sometimes loneliness weighing down when this card shows up. However, this card also shows up when there IS help available for the asking. Here, we just see the man’s loyal, furry companion by his side. But for many of us, those helpers come in human form as well.

As far as advice, the Ace of Swords gives us something to hold on to when we’re feeling overwhelmed and left out in the cold. It’s a single though, an objective. The Ace of Swords is the seed of a workable plan. It’s not the whole plan, mind you. When you see this Ace, you won’t have it all figured out by a long shot. What you will have, however, as a workable starting point.

This ace can manifest as a single spot of clarity amidst confusion, an overriding objective or mission to guide the way, or just the very first step to take right now. You won’t see the entire path and the details beyond the start are likely to be fuzzy if visible at all. But you will have a clear, understandable and workable place to start. And that’s really all you need here.

This coming week, don’t freak out if you find yourself feeling isolated or left out okay? Seek out emotional support if you need it, because it is available. And look for the “Ace of Swords” idea to help you shift to a better place. That one spark of inspiration, that single idea, the beginning of plan–this is the Ace of Swords personified in your life–this is all you need to begin forward motion.

Are you feeling “out in the cold?” If you are, start looking for your own Ace of Swords to help you find your way back to warmth and comfort.

As always, reach out directly if you’d like to set up a personal consultation.

Four of Pentacles & Ace of Swords: Next Clear Step

I think people have pretty much always lamented how awful the world is. There’s plenty of stuff to feel bothered over, if you’re looking around for it.

But what if that “wrong” that we see is a force for good?

It’s what people see as “wrong” that directs thought towards what they see as right. It becomes an  impetus of growth and evolution. Sometimes it’s painful and messy. Renovation work can be a little chaotic in progress. But that doesn’t make the end result any less lovely.

Out of manure, beautiful flowers bloom.

Nowadays, I try to be respectful of everyone’s intention, whether or not I agree with any part of it. I want to be more kind. The trick to reaching for greater kindness is stepping back from judgement.

It’s tempting to measure everything against the yardstick of “What would I do?” But everyone isn’t me! We’ve lived different lives. We’ve interpreted our experiences in ways specific to our beliefs and whatever influences we were feeling at the time.

I don’t need to fault someone for being who they are, nor plot how I will straighten them out. My job is loving, not fixing. Sometimes, that’s harder to manage of the two approaches, but always worth the trouble.

Next Week in Tarot

We have the week’s forecast coming in as the Four of Pentacles, with advice from the Ace of Swords–cards from the lovely Star Tarot deck.

It’s an interesting rendition of the Four–the stone portal dominates, with the symbols of the four elements on each corner. Now the scene features a swan and is guarded by a dragonfly. You think there are some important changes being referenced? Because that symbolism pretty much screams change.

That portal isn’t flimsy. It’s solid and the foundation for change is just as solid. Tarot fours are a stable energy. So throughout this week, expect whatever exists is a sturdy foundation for what’s to come, regardless of whether or not it’s clear how exactly that all fits together.

The most involved, most complicated changes have multiple layers. The Universe orchestrates this, not the individual. At least, if you want it done well, you back off.

Let the Universe do its job and orchestrate, will ya?

The Ace of Swords suggests an aim for clear and focused thought. Any action taken should be decisive under this influence, but not taken until the path appears natural, the obvious next step. Not rushing to the end of the race, mind you. NEXT CLEAR STEP. Next clear step. That’s all you’re aiming for here.

The Ace of Swords does not need to backtrack or second-guess. The Ace is also not rushed, because once that clear choice is made, the energy moves fast. So don’t move until you’ve ready and you know you’re ready because you’re sure. There’s no angst about the decisions here. You will know.

In short: It’s not up to you to line up all the pieces next week. Just stay focused on the next clear step in your own lane. That’s all you need.

Give me a holler if you’d like some help getting your focus on. And have a great week!

Peace Out.

Ace of Swords Rx & Page of Swords: Get Clear

Sometimes when I listen to people, I could swear they are watching completely different movies about the same subject. At least, that’s how Captain Virgo describes it. The conclusions that are derived from the exact same stimulus are just polar opposites at times. It’s a very weird time overall in that regard.

To one degree or another, maybe this is always the case. But the phenomena is a lot more dramatic now than I remember it being in the past. I personally suspect this is a predictable byproduct of  significant social change.  While it can be messy, there’s no avoiding it. Change is the only constant.

On the one hand, it often saddens me to see how disruptive this can be at times. The ferocity of judgement against those watching “that other movie” is disconcerting. But on the other hand, I respect the passion that’s underlying much of what goes on. I guess evolution is just messy sometimes.

Next week is looking a lot like this phenomena to me.

Next Week in Tarot

This week’s outlook is the Ace of Swords reversed, with advice of the Page of Swords. Pictured is my favorite working deck, the mini Radiant Rider Waite in a tin.

Expect to run across plenty of confusion, muddled thinking, unclear ideas and otherwise incomplete theories out in the wild this week.

Your job, however, is to find your own clarity–which is much different from trying to impose your version of clarity upon others. That likely won’t be heard anyway.

If you’re not sure, don’t commit until you do feel sure. Misunderstandings may be eliminated by discussion or even a little time. Lots of ideas are flowing but they are not all good ones! Make sure any agreements you undertake are complete and spell out the details. Be aware of the role of emotion vs. facts in decision-making.

In general, this is a week to lean hard into the facts and double-check yours. Negotiate as needed but I wouldn’t assume someone else is “bad” because they’re operating from a different set of conclusions. I expect to see a lot of that going around.

Make your peace with yourself and let others do the same.

Are you sensing the confusion? And do you feel clear enough, yourself?

If you need a little help clarifying your own action plan, give me a holler for a one-on-one.
