11/22/11: Heartbreak to Possibilities | 3 of Swords, 8 of Wands

You know, I should be annoyed at Tarot. I’ve gotten a run of the Three of Swords lately, and Lord knows, that’s a card nobody likes to get! But I won’t. Number one, it does no good—more like tempting fate. And secondly, if you’re getting it, there’s a reason, right?

3_of_Swords8_of_WandsOne of the things I dig about using non-traditional decks like Osho Zen is that it sheds some new light on old cards, giving you additional nuances that you can call upon. Today’s Tarot forecast paring is an excellent example.

The Three of Swords/Clouds (Saturn in Libra), here as Ice-olation, and the Eight of Wands/Fire (Mercury in Sagittarius) or Traveling, both have a slightly different feeling than their traditional brethren while still retaining the core concept.

Commonly known as the "Heartbreak card," Isolation emphasizes the fact this pain here comes from the separation itself, not necessarily the value of what was lost. It’s a cold, sad place to be, but we don’t have to stay there. In fact, the Eight of Wands suggests we won’t spend long there, as that’s the card of impending resolution most often.

This version of that card is especially beautiful, showing an Eagle’s eye view of the landscape. It doesn’t emphasize lack, but possibility. If you suffer a loss, having a wide range of possibility appear in it’s stead is a pretty awesome development, don’t you think? By not curling up in agony over what’s gone, you can open yourself to what’s next.

These two cards in tandem are quite a pair, really. Because they aptly describe how you feel with just about any breakup. This is how it works, whether you’re breaking up with a mate, a job, or even just a vision of how things are/might be/should be. Whatever it is, the energy is the same. What you know for sure is that you’re going someplace new. And that is not such a bad thing.

So what if things are not the way you wanted them to be or thought they would end up? Doesn’t matter. What matters is that the future IS in motion, energy is moving and you are most certainly NOT stuck. So take a deep breath, survey the landscape and  appreciate the possibilities. You’ll know, before long.

Are you seeing possibilities on the horizon?

11/8/11: Plane’s Taken Off! | Eight of Wands

eight-wands

One of the most satisfying aspects of working with my Tarot peeps is talking to the same people over an extended period of time. You get to know folks, see them make changes, resolve questions, shift and a lot of the time, you get to see how it works out. I love that! It’s immensely gratifying to see people grow, and sometimes be of service to them in the process. Today’s Tarot made me think of this.

My desktop is getting virus scans and the cards I’ve drawn ahead for the Everyday Tarot aren’t available. So I said, “Okay. The first single card image I find on my laptop, I’m considering today’s draw.  We got the Eight of Wands (Torches) from the quirky Zodiac Tarot.

I’m calling it a non-traditional shuffle. Ha!

Generally, the Eight of Wands is all about unfinished business—situations with fast-paced action, soon to be resolved. This version, focusing solely on the astrological association of Mercury in Sagittarius, suggests thinking about travel. Big movement!

I like the mix implied here—sure, the future is in motion, fast, and certainly unpredictable. But you know, it’s kind of exciting, from this window looking out into that great big sky, waiting to see where it’s all going to land. That’s the fun, the adventure! Dreaming where you want to go. Seeing the movement, the progress, appreciating the trip, you know? Imagining what wonderful things it may bring…

Are you waiting for a resolution? How do you feel about it?

Everyday Tarot, 06/22/11: Finishing that Business w/8 of Wands

8-wands-daily-tarot-forecastI’ve been talking about “having the antsy.” I do, too, you know. It’s good to know that unfinished business is on it’s way to being resolved, if today’s draw is any indication.

wands08sToday’s Tarot forecast is the Eight of Wands or “Lord of Swiftness,” associated with Mercury in Sagittarius. Big (Sagittarius) news (Mercury) arrives fast (Mercury)! As one of the Tarot Eights, it’s a culmination, representative of sustained effort over a long period.

Yes, things are moving fast and furious and it’s unsettling as all get out, but at least they’re moving and it won’t be long yet. Unfinished business getting settled when you see these wand flying by.

I sometimes tell friends (okay—myself, too), “the anticipation is worse than the actual event.” I’ve found time and again that my worries, fussing, obsessing and general itchiness with unsettled situations is consistently more disturbing than whatever eventually goes down. Knowing that helps, some.

I’ve got my own psyche stirred up at the moment—a challenge to make my own dinner, lit up under the recent Eclipse. I’ve been reading back, the last few days Everyday Tarot forecasts, and see the synchronicity plain as day, elegant as ballet, unfolding in preperation of climax, resolution, and change of scene.

Okay. I’m ready, Tarot! Bring it on. I’ve been complaining about the untidy skeletons cluttering the back of my brain for years now.  I ask for support clearing them out, and it appears I’m getting it—okay. Be careful what you wish for! Snort.

Do you have unfinished business afoot?
