01/18/13: Birthing Pain | Empress

Well, I am really glad to see another lighter card! These days, you take that relief where you can get it. I’m a little surprised, though, to tell the truth.

Yes, the lightening of the energetic weather has been palpable today. Thank God! But it’s still kind of overcast, at least in my world.

You know the feeling I’m talking about? The “I can’t do anything right, everything I touch blows up and no matter how hard I try, it’s not good enough?” That’s the one.

I know I’m not alone. Man, do I know this!

I’m picking up a lot of emotional turbulence in general, not trying! The emotions are loud today. It’s the equivalent of an emotional contact high and it’s fierce. But people have a right to what goes on inside their own heads and heats, even if it is sometimes a little loud. So I didn’t ask anyone to turn it down.

So under such circumstances, what on Earth can I make of the Empress?—that’s who “Fertility” is, you know.

Wait a minute…she has birthing pains!

Pain is natural byproduct of the act of creation. (I’m not going into the Biblical explanation, please stick with my metaphor here.)

It can be uncomfortable! It can hurt. It can feel out-of-control or scary or just plain exhausting. But if we’re changing, and especially doing so dramatically, if we’re trying to give birth to a new life, new options, new circumstances, new ideas and so on, we can realistically expect birthing pains. It doesn’t mean something is wrong, It’s just how it is.

So if you’re feeling uncomfortable, out-of-sorts, confused or tired, maybe you can chalk it up to creative birthing pains. And like most parents, after the fact you’ll probably decide it was worth it…I hope so!

Are you feeling any birthing pain?

Art Therapy? Mini Chakra-Tarot Reading for StaceyUK

“Just interested in what the cards say.” -StaceyUK

Okay, let’s see!

Short Answer: The base charka comes up as the main focus. The focus here is on creativity–trust your creative process to take care of you. And understand the creative process is especially powerful method for transmuting traumatic experiences. Whether it’s your old baggage or working with children who need healing, this is extremely effective. Don’t censor the outcome, just let the art become a vehicle.

Hope that helps!

08/25/12: Living Perpetually Pregnant? | Empress

I was complaining about the Empress showing up in these daily draws…of course, that is exactly how the cards work. And if you’re writing a column, or doing a Tarot journal, or doing a draw on a regular basis for any reason, you’ll find the same thing.

Some cards show up so frequently, it’s almost like being haunted. Hunted?  Maybe you have no idea what it means. Or maybe you think you know exactly what it means. Whatever you think you know, don’t be overly sure.

The same goes for whatever you think you don’t know.

Mother is home! The Empress is ruled by Venus. She’s the Tarot Mama, with all that entails. She’s perpetually pregnant, and her magic powers of creativity are what transform whatever she touches into abundance.

I think she’s here now to nudge me into higher levels creative freedom. On my radar lately, I’ve been getting pings about living out loud, with an authentic voice as route to professional (and personal) growth.

That takes some guts, if you want to know the truth. But then again, being perpetually pregnant takes some guts, too. Nobody said it was an easy job, being the Empress!

08/10/12: Mama’s Preggers Again | Empress

“It is not until you become a mother that your judgment slowly turns to compassion and understanding.” –Erma Bombeck

Oh man, Mama’s back! At least this is one of my favorite versions of the Empress (Venus). From Legacy of the Divine, she appears as a beautiful, pregnant motherly figure, surrounded by the harvest, and transforming life of many kinds.

What was that about Mommy issues again? Oy.

I AM a mother and a daughter. I’ve got a 10th house moon, so I do a bit of “mothering” (Moon) in public (10th House). It’s a role I never sought but feel natural in, all the same. Like I’m built for it even if I wasn’t looking for it. And it’s not an easy job, any side of the fence.

Mothering is one of…”those things,” you know? It can bring feelings so  profound, at times it feels impossible to grasp in a single, fell swoop, let alone put into words. It may be the same for fathering. I just don’t know because hey, I’m not one!

What I do know: you do the best you know how, as Mama or offspring. You can love without agreeing. You support what you feel good about supporting, and let go of what you don’t. Be as kind as you can in the process.

Because whatever becomes of the mother/child relationship, whatever joys or pains come therein, I can say without hesitation that it will impact both parties for the rest of their days. People carry this around. It changes how someone gives love and receives love and cares for others and cares for themselves. You neither want to be the one waking up middle-aged realizing they have some Mommy issues, nor the one going to bed, knowing your child will be that person. It’s worth trying to get right.

One thing that I find very telling about the Empress—she’s always pregnant with something! So no matter what you’ve got going on here, there is life that will be borne from it. She creates not only literal children, but art, beauty, comfort. She feeds and soothes and nurtures. Her presence always bears fruit. It’s up to us to determine what fruit she’s bearing and what to do with it.

Do you recognize this energy in you life right now?

07/29/12: Mama’s still talking! | rev Empress, rev Fool

Damn! You ever get the impression the cards are trying to tell you something? We’ve got the Empress (again!), this time reversed, along with a reversed Fool. I think I should blame this on Mercury and Uranus being retrograde. Don’t you? Ha!

Let’s go with the short and sweet today: Care for yourself first, MAKE the time for creativity and self-nurturing. This is how you move along your path, not via head-banging and hand-wringing and pushing through. Otherwise, you’re stuck, baby. Divine inspiration comes via imagination, joy, and seeps into the empty spaces in our lives.

If you don’t clear some space for it, there is no where for it to go. That’s what I’m thinking.

So, what do you make of this? Why is the Empress haunting us lately?!
