08/28/12: Noticing the Love | 4 of Wands

20120823_184713 (432x620)There is optimism, joy and commitment in the Four of Wands. Sometimes called the “wedding card,” this card often arrives to herald a special event, a ceremony, or celebration of some milestone. I’ve also seen it talk about a safe haven.

Tarot fours show stability, and Tarot wands speak to creative passion. It’s a fruitful, solid union.

Reversed, it may not be obvious or fully appreciated joys. But you can still access it, if you look a little harder. You ARE on solid ground here, surrounded by love and trust. Did you notice?

Don’t over-give, and don’t commit unless the load is fairly balanced. Otherwise, it won’t last. No charity dating, okay?

06/07/12: Trust before you Partner | Queen Swords, 4 Wands, 10 Pentacles

Be logical, detached and ruthless in cutting away falsehood and inconsistency from your life. Do this before you partner! Then, you can build what you want with sound material, solid ground, stability and safety. What you build under those conditions? That stands the test of time. Invite into your family those whose hearts are true, those whose actions are just, and those who generously share of themselves and their wealth with loved ones.

If someone doesn’t make the cut, then don’t sign the contract with them. You’ll regret it.

Are you forging partnerships?

05/23/12: What reality are you marrying? | 4 of Wands

Everybody knows, the Four of Wands is “the wedding card.” You see it for  literal marriage, celebrations and big events. But cards say what they want to say, how they want to say it.

Once, I got this card along with the Queen of Cups, who was frequently appearing as to me as a counselor around that time. So I asked, “Are you  marriage counselor?”

I was stunned to learn she worked Hospice. I wasn’t expecting it! But come to think of it, death is a pretty darned big event, too. And depending perspective, maybe something to celebrate.

In the Legacy of the Divine deck, this card is shown as an outdoor retreat. After running across it, I started getting it to for the idea of a safe harbor, too. The Tarot fours are about stability, and the sense of a peaceful retreat from the artwork.

The New Vision Tarot kind of screams, “the other side of the story.” What reality, what vision, myth, story or explanation for your world have you married? This filter is the other side of the story, the comfortable chair you settle into at the end of the day from which you view the world.

Does it serve you? Is it a happy union, one that still fits who you are? Is it comfortable and safe?

The story you tell yourself, the feelings that live deep inside your heart, the version of truth you initial to live with—this is what you commit to live. If you don’t like it, cancel the wedding! Break up and find you a better companion.

Are you feeling married to any unpleasant realities?

04/20/12: Acknowledging your Foundations | 4 Wands

“Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility.” Saint Augustine

Today’s Tarot is the Four of Wands (Venus in Aries), here shown as “Foundation and Achievements.” You’re looking at a house you’ve built here, and it’s solid. Didn’t you notice?

Often arriving to herald weddings, big events and milestones, the traditional version of this card is generally a welcome guest in a  reading. But before the wedding, before the awards banquet or big event, there is, always, the foundation that’s been built. Without it, the event would not have taken place.

Best to start building in humility. That’s the only way you can learn something new, you know. We must realized we don’t know it all already! Check. Then we move on to learn all we can. This is our foundation.

I see this card today as a nudge to acknowledge the foundations I’ve built in my life, and appreciate the benefit of the shelter they now provide. Those countless Tarot books I’ve read? All the years “playing” with the cards, Astrology, Numerology, Runes, etc., etc.? That wasn’t wasted effort. While it was play in that it IS a joy to me, more than that: It was building a foundation! It’s kind of awesome when you look around and realize just how much of a foundation you’ve built, and understand how that does prepare you for achievement.

Can you think of any foundations you’ve built in your life that you don’t always recognize as such?

04/18/12: Celebrate the Solid Start | 4 Wands

Exhale! Kick back. Enjoy the place you’ve come to. Now is the time!

The Four of Wands (Venus in Aries) is often associated with weddings, although this version in the Housewives Tarot doesn’t seem so matrimonial. But if you look beneath her perch, you can see there’s but finishing touches being done to her home. The foundation has been well-laid, most of the work done, and she can relax a bit, knowing she’s in a stable place (Tarot fours), having created  the current situation acting (Aries)on the passions of her heart (Venus).

This card has an air of celebration and joy. Better yet, it’s warranted! If you’ve been working hard, doing your best to lay your plans and execute them, you’re promised progress. Once the foundation has been lain and the proper help secured, you’re in good stead.

Enjoy. The house you’ve built is coming together. Events unfold as they should, because you’ve done the prep. It’s time to appreciate and enjoy what you’ve built so far, knowing it will take you far into the future. Good thing it’s solid!
