Gemstone Guide: Doubling Firepower with Calcite

IMG_2082I hovered my hand above the baskets of gemstones, trying to pick one that had a nice vibe to it. Being in a woo-woo store, I knew I wouldn’t be looked at askance. I liked the look of these pretty green stones, and it had a good feel in my hands. So I took one home.

Calcite comes in shades of gold, white, black, green, gray, yellow, blue brown and read. Lots of variety for this little stone! In the form of limestone and marble, it comprises a significant portion of Earth’s crust.

The stone itself seems to have a calming effect on me. It’s energy reminds me of the hypnotic effect of waves washing up on a beach. There’s an underlying vibration of power and inevitability about this stone to me, much like the expression of nature’s cycles.

It’s a stone of health associated with Cancer, so you can look for it to take care of you, just like your favorite Cancer might. You can bathe with it, lay it on your body or carry for physical healing, strength and immunity boosting.

Associated with the solar plexus chakra, it should help with a sense of personal power, a strong inner foundation. High-grade optical calcite was used in World War II for gun sights, in bomb sights and anti-aircraft weapons. How much more aligned with power could you ask for here?

“Calcite has the unique optical quality of double refraction. Draw a line with a pen on a piece of paper, then place a piece of calcite over the line. When you look through the stone, the line will appear to be doubled.” – Cunningham’s Encyclopedia of Crystal, Gem & Metal Magic

Green calcite as pictured is said to enhance intuition and healing abilities, as well as physical issues connected to the heart, dissolving tumors and malignancies, and helping with sinus and lung issues. As green is the traditional color of the Heart Charka, I’m not surprised at the connection.

Caring for your Calcite: it’s not an especially hard stone, so beware abrasives.

Have you worked with Calcite? What do you think of it?

Gemstone Guides: Wishy-washy Aquamarine?

IMG_2078

Aquamarine is a stone of WATER. Aquamarine is a blue-green variety of beryl, and a sister of the Emerald. The word is from the Latin words “aqua” and “mare,” meaning water and sea respectively. Like the sea, some are blue and some are green.

Heat treatment makes this stone more blue…

Associated with psychic abilities, intuition and healing, it’s also used for protection for traveling by water—place one in a container of water for a protective amulet. Like water, it’s also used for cleansing and purifying emotions and charkas. It can help you manage emotions and find relief, washing away worries and overwhelm. It’s used for managing fear and dealing with tidal emotion. Pisces and those with heavy Neptunian influences would likely find this an especially friendly stone.

This stone can actually feel like waves, washing over and around you as you hold it. (Or at least, it does to me!) Not drowning, but more like a seashell on the beach, when the tide comes in. There’s a sense of flowing, acceptance in this stone’s personality, you know? It seems sympathetic and soothing.

It’s most associated with the Throat Chakra–which cracks me up, as I notice all these stones I have been picking up lately seem to be associated with the Throat Chakra. Like I need help in running my mouth? Ha!

Physically, Aquamarine is used for cleaning and purifying the digestive system and any fluid elements of the body. It’s also long been used for vision and eye health.

Caring for your Aquamarine—this is a fairly hardy stone that doesn’t require special handling. For energy cleansing, I would suggest water. Go figure.

Do you have or use Aquamarine? Do you like this stone?

Gemstones in Real Life: Moldavite Dynamite Update

Moldavite Necklace Report

Moldavite Necklace Report

Moldavite has a kick, as you may already know. A big one. From what I can tell, it’s all about letting go and opening up. And with that kind of energy, it’s something you may want to work with in measured doses. At least, if you’re not me.

As much as I lecture the world to be patient, get your two cookies later, not to be all forlorn when you find you haven’t tossed it fast enough…well, I don’t care. I want to be lessened of my psychic hangups now, damnit! I’m perfectly ready to accept discomfort for my own good, if we can just get on with it already.

So I ordered this Moldavite necklace. Right around that last eclipse, when I was already twitchy with the astrological charge. The Moldavite turned it up. And I wore it, all day, every day for a couple of weeks, just taking it off for bathing and sleeping. (I don’t think I could have slept with it on.)  But I was determined I was going to get the best I could from of the period, so I wore it faithfully to enhance my intention.

And yes, it did it’s work. I had shadows shaking loose in every corner of my brain! Left and right. At times, quite uncomfortable, but not unduly painful considering what was being shuffled. And it moved fast! If you’re willing to endure the unsettling transition, it’s a good choice.

Nonetheless, I probably could have done with a little less push. I finally decided to give it a rest–I was getting too wound up. So I grabbed my Charkra necklace again for a while. But I have it back on, in preparation for the next eclipse.

I have noticed this necklace is a slightly lighter green color than my other pieces (though it looks dark in the picture), and seems to have a gentler energy than the darker green. That’s just as well, if it’s going to be hanging around my neck–and  especially if I don’t have the good sense to swap it out with calmer gemstones periodically. I’m working on that “good sense” thing.

Do you limit your work with any particular stones because of their energy?

Gemstones in Real Life: Moldavite Clearing the Decks

I was blessed with a surprise gift when Jupiter was conjunct Uranus–a minivan! It was much needed and appreciated, since I was driving a complete crap-mobile. There was only one problem–the energy. It belonged to my brother. My relationships with family are sketchy on a good day, and I’d only talked to this brother once in the decade prior. So climbing in this vehicle, thick with his energy, dredged up a lot of pain. I’d hop in to go to the store and end up bawling within minutes and it wasn’t shaking off.

“That is SO you,” said my husband upon seeing these.

I decided I needed to inject some “Dixie”in there and clear the energy. Started with a few accessories and added a sparkly necklace to hang from the rear view mirror. It was better, but I wanted more.

Hello, seat covers! Knowing my brother would have had nothing to do with such flashy foolishness, they helped hugely. All of a sudden, I could get in without feeling sad.

I also grabbed a bottle of Purification spray–love this stuff!–used it liberally, and stashed nearby for quick recharges and clearing. Much, much better. Then Jinjan suggested adding gemstones. Duh! Why did I not think of that? Specifically, Moldavite, a rare,  green piece of ancient meteorite.

Moldavite

Now, Moldavite had already hit my radar, since a recent order to the Natural Magick Shop had mistakenly netted me a whole bunch of Moldavite oil! Ten bottles of something you didn’t order captures your attention, after all.

I vaguely remembered maybe having a piece of my own from eons ago. I’d gotten it when I was new at collecting gemstones, as a gift. I felt it’s vibrations like crazy when I touched it and had no idea what else to do with it. So it lived in it’s little bag, pushed behind other stuff, long put away and forgotten until I went seeking it. It showed up again, right when I asked for it. Thanks, Universe!

I hung it on the rear view mirror with some ribbon inside a ring my husband gave me, adding an amethyst necklace to ground and some other personal items to round out the energetic transfusion. The results were quick and exceeded my expectations. I’ve been happily driving, sans emotional ghosts, ever since.

Pretty, don’t you think?

They say Moldavite helps you transform and let go of whatever you no longer need, you know?

What I didn’t expect was that within few days of  hanging that Moldavite, I would be finishing up my work at Elsa’s site to be here at A Fool’s Journey, giving it all I’ve got. As hard as it was to transition (and it was), deep down, I knew it was time, to move forward and see where it led. I don’t know when I would have, though, had circumstances not come together the way they did. I credit Moldavite energy for driving the process into motion.

I loved it so much, I recently ordered myself a Sterling Silver Wire Wrapped Moldavite Pendant from Amazon. I’m excited to see what other changes this stone brings. But I’ll warn you now–don’t get it if you’re not ready to be shot into the future.

Do you have any Moldavite? What do you think of it?

Using Infinite: The Healers’ Gemstone

Infinite /Infinity Healing GemstoneAt a psychic fair eons ago, before I was actively working with cards or much anything metaphysical, I got a very, very good reading. So I asked the reader about progressing on my own path since she clearly had a hotline here, and she suggested I start getting gemstones.

At the time, it seemed kind of crazy to me. “Rocks? Rocks are going to help me develop spiritually? Really?!?” Dumbfounded but sold by the quality of the reading, I went ahead and picked up some rocks that day and eventually, learned to appreciate the energy stones carry. I’m glad I did!

One of my absolute favorite pieces is this sizable hunk of Infinite (or Infinity) gemstone–a type of green Serpentine and Chrysotile found in South Africa. It comes in different shades. The lighter green is the more gentle variety, the darker green more concentrated energy. I was lucky enough to find a piece that has both. Well worth the $15 it cost me to win it on eBay.

Infinite gemstone draws out pain, both physical and emotional. (And what pain isn’t both?)  Some use a small piece of Infinite as a Worry stone, or sleep with it under their pillow. These stones have a very gentle, soft energy. Some say it helps connect to the angelic realms, drawing out negative energy and mending holes in the aura and very grounding.

I can tell you from personal experience it helps eliminate pain. I’ve used it for nausea, cramps, headaches, backaches, you name it. Whatever hurts, it’s helped. Most effective seems to be simply laying the Infinite stone on body wherever it hurts. You don’t have to have skin contact, but I prefer to whenever practical. It’s fastest that way. Once you’ve placed the stone, divert your attention from any discomfort and let it go. Within a few minutes, when you remember to check, the pain has vanished. It really is that simple.

I’ve seen a few sources suggest this stone needs frequent clearing, but others say it’s one of the few that’s perpetually self-clearing. I’ve never felt the need to energetically clean or charge my Infinite stone in any way and it continues to work just fine, so I’m voting with self-clearing camp. Of course, if you’d prefer to clear yours, it certainly wouldn’t hurt anything. As always, your own intuition is your most reliable guide.

Have you used Infinite or are you interested in trying it?
