Nine of Cups & Strength: Contentment Despite the Rain

I slipped outside yesterday to sip coffee on the front porch, stealing a few minutes between the rain showers.

I was inwardly irritated at the Universe over a week’s worth of unrelenting rain, if you want to know the truth. After days and days of dark clouds filling the sky, I was feeling emotionally waterlogged enough to match the weather.

“Would it kill you to give us a little sunshine, damnit?” I grumbled under my breath. (The neighbors already think I’m weird enough.)

That’s when I took notice of the flowers.

My humble little flowerpots scattered around the front porch were bursting with pretty little blooms. I may get tired of all the rain, but it obviously was doing wonders for those flowers.

I was still looking forward to brighter weather, but in that moment I stopped feeling so bothered by the rain. I could see where it was serving a useful purpose.

The bigger world feels like an exaggerated version of unrelenting rain to me right about now. I have been feeling waterlogged by all of it. But now, I’m also wondering what flowers might be blooming as a result.

Next Week in Tarot

9 of Cups / Strength

For the outlook this week we got the Nine of Cups (Water), with Strength as advice. The gentle imagery is from the Good Tarot deck. Don’t worry–I’ll go back to seeing other decks.  But for today, still, I was looking for a gentle voice.

In fact, the voice here was so gentle, it confused me.

Weekly outlook of the “wish card?”  I’m missing something. That seems utterly unrealistic.

I seldom speak explicitly about current events here. It’s not like what’s going on out in the world isn’t already baked in to any discussion of the universal vibes. Mostly though, I already hear countless voices doing just that, preaching their perspectives. I’m not saying there isn’t value in all of those voices or the missions their speakers undertake. It’s just not my mission.

Stepping back from the particulars, however, doesn’t mean I’m not impacted.

It’s cloudy other there. I want something much sunnier than what I’m am feeling.  It would be difficult to characterize the world as anything short of “stormy” at this moment.

That’s why these cards confused me. Because really, Tarot….

“What on Earth am I supposed to make of that forecast?” I wanted to know.

hermit

The Hermit.

Oh. The Hermit.

I got it.

The Nine of Cups here–typically denoting feelings along the lines of contentment, satisfaction and pleasure–is an outlook that will remain accessible, but on an individual level. It’s not automatic. In the rain, appreciation for what that rain brings is a perspective that must be chosen and cultivated to take root.

This mermaid pictured on the version card has collected her treasures and they are defined as such precisely because she’s chosen to treasure them. I may not value the string of pearls the way she does, but that’s totally irrelevant to her. It’s her appreciation itself that elevates the objects to the status of treasure. Her joy is internally generated.

The Hermit reminds us it’s honing views and following intuitive nudges that refine our inner landscape. He doesn’t need the world to validate his conclusions about what good and right.  He cultivates his own garden in that regard.

In terms of advice, Strength always suggests to me a very gentle yet never wavering approach. She lives her truth with a gentle, consistent integrity. The salient piece of Strength’s advice isn’t really about what one is doing, but rather how it’s done. Living the best version of what you consider right, humbly and without deviation, is exactly how to embody the core energy of Strength.

So if you consider your role of greatest satisfaction preaching loud and proud with the mission of converting hearts and minds, so be it. Do that! If you find the most satisfaction in living your personal truth, hoping in the process to cheer and encourage others doing the same, so be it. Do that! Plant your flowers.

There is always rain. There always will be rain. But there are always sunshine and flowers to follow as well. Whether we’re noticing mostly rain or the sun in any given moment, we do have choices. As for me, I’m on the lookout for some flowers.

Reach out if you’d like a personal consult. We’ll look at how you can cultivate your own flowers.

Be A Zen Cat: Tarot Forecast, Dec 26 – Jan 1

I nickname my neighbors. The ones I don’t know by name, I make up functional names for them. We’ve had Donut Girl and Mr. Weirdo and Captain Redneck.

Zen Boy is one of my favorites among the crop of current neighborhood kids. I’ve probably told you about him before.

He’s the one who was gathering acorns one day–singing odes of appreciation to the acorns as he dropped them in his bucket. He’d admire each as he was picking it up, singing a stream-of-consciousness serenade about how the acorn was, “so nice and round and broooooowwwwwn.” He wasn’t worrying about the other two kids picking up acorns, who was getting the most or the best or whether or not they approved of his singing. He wasn’t even noting the lady drinking coffee on her porch nearby, grinning all over to herself over the acorn serenade.

How freakin’ in-the-moment is that?

I’ve seen him again and again, and his countenance and energy tone is always the same. He’s right there, in the moment and not bothered by what other people are acting out.

Angry Man is another neighbor–one I haven’t enjoyed as much as Zen boy. His energy is always stormy, and he’s usually visibly (or audibly) displeased with whatever is before him at the moment. Also? He NEVER gets to leave anywhere on time and is sick and tired of all the Goddamn fighting in that house!

I was more than a little taken aback one day when I heard him fussing at Zen Boy…Angry Man must be his dad!

Whaaaaa?!? I would not have seen that coming.

And throughout the whole exchange, this kid did not waver an iota from his Zen. His energy was clear as a bell. There wasn’t even a blip of waver. He was listening to his Dad’s rant, yes, and responding to the conversation, absolutely. And  I could feel him the whole time, just KNOWING the drama was unnecessary, knowing it wasn’t about him. Not judging or bothering about the fact there was drama. Just not getting it on him. He stayed right smack on his center the whole time.

And suddenly, I had a whole new appreciation for Angry Man.

Because maybe it takes an Angry Man to help call forth a Zen Boy. You know? I’ve always said,  people get exactly the right parents, and here it was, in living color before me.

Maybe there is a place for allowing and appreciating in every bit of humanity.

And this week? Your ride is all about what you CHOOSE to appreciate.

[bctt tweet=”What you appreciate IS a choice. #OnMyRadar” via=”no”]

With a rainstorm, some people seem flowers on the way and others see mud. I’m choosing the flowers, thank you very much. And this coming week is a lot like that. You can holler about the rain, or you can get excited about the flowers. You can get mad at the people who are dripping drama to and fro (and join them), or you can wish them well while you go about staying true to your own center.

I think we all know where this is going. Har! So let’s get to the forecast bit.

Monday, The Lovers: Cue harps and angels and all that jazz. Expect a harmonious day, so enjoy it! Do understand, though,  it’s harmonious with what YOU are putting out. that if you get out of bed cranky and walk around cranky, you’ll meet a lot of cranky. If you don’t like what you’re getting, take a look in the mirror!

Tuesday, Hermit rx: Connect with others, don’t isolate. Don’t let anxiety get the better of you. Speak out if something is on your mind, don’t wall up emotionally. Won’t help. Talking to others can help dissipate misunderstandings or confusion. A lot may need that sort of assistance today.

Wednesday, Judgement: Take a step back and assess, assess, assess. Without laying blame, by the way. Assess projects, creative work, whatever is on your mind, just assess. It will be easy to tease out what comes from where, what adjustments to make so long as the process is about finding info, not laying blame. So whatever you’re not happy with becomes a fact-finding mission and with this approach, you’ll feel movement.

Thursday, Page of Pentacles: Day for detail work. Seeing stacks and stacks of papers, checklists, bookmarks, etc. Methodical, by-the-numbers work goes well. Doublecheck plans, and plow through the little things and it will add up quickly. News may arrive, as Pages often announce the news. Nothing to do about it, just be aware messages may come.

Friday, Five of Pentacles rx: A possibility of some pity parties going down. Not so hard to counteract. The pity parties are not about circumstances, they are about how you feel about those circumstances. What touches your heart may bother you more than it bothers the individuals in the middle of it, as our expectations are different. This is all subjective. What you feel is your own, but remember, perspective is everything! If you catch yourself feeling a little sorry for yourself, try to catch it before it gains a lot of steam, and counterbalance it with something you appreciate to change it up quick!

Saturday, The Fool Rx: The phrase comes to mind, “Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.” This day has the potential for blurting and impulsive behavior. You can wait until the end of a conversation or when you feel you are in control before speaking. Never act from a place where you feel anxious or upset. Whatever behavior undertaken from that vibration is not going to turn out the way you want. So get stable and grounded, plug in, and wait until it doesn’t feel like such an emotional emergency before moving.

Sunday, Temperance rx: In keeping with the general vibe for the whole week, there is info to be integrated and stuff to figure out. But it’s not something to work on consciously. You just have to NOT be Chicken Little to settle your life down. Be calm and chill. Give yourself the empty space, the non-effort (which takes effort for some, but it’s practice). That will make the difference.

Overview/Advice, Knight of Pentacles: Map it out and take your time. One step, one step, one step at a time.

Affirmation: Romance. In the context of the coming week, understand the harmony of what you put out is what you get back. Very highlighted throughout the week. You will get what resonates with the energy you vibrate. Doesn’t mean what you like, while it might be. But you cannot get much outside your belief system. You have to believe it before you can get it, you know? The Romance here is a reminder that you get what you put out. Not to be guilt trippy. Just look to shift the energy around anything that doesn’t feel good. It doesn’t matter where frustrations come from. Just look to feel better, PERIOD. That’s it. This shifts your energy and what you’re feeling syncs with what you’ve been thinking. Just look to shift your feelings a little bit better, a little bit better. “Romance” what you like in your life and appreciate it. Just like a smitten, new couple, who intensely focus on each other, drinking everything in from the connection? They’re specifically looking for the good stuff, hopeful it will work out, wanting to see the best

Approach your life like that! Romance yourself. Romance your life. Look for good things everywhere you can and your life will improve.

p.s. I’m still running the 2017 Year-Ahead Zodiac Special…for now.

Good feedback on the audio files–people are telling me it feels very “real time” and brings a sense of immediacy to the reading experience. Any orders now won’t be undertaken until after Christmas, just FYI. I’ve got presents to wrap and turkey to cook, man.
