12/14/11: Stay Balanced, My Friends! | Rev Justice, Knight of Wands

“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” Thomas Merton

Today’s Tarot is reversed Justice (Libra) and the Knight of Wands (Air in Fire). Watch to be sure you remain balanced and fair. Be aware, you may be getting something started without realizing it. Don’t run away with yourself here—or anyone else. If you teeter a little over the edge, the effect ripples.

Sometimes this happens a lot stronger or more than you imagined. It does for me, and maybe for you. So be aware, okay?

You feeling this?

12/09/11: Not my Problem | Reversed Two of Swords, Justice

"There is a higher court than courts of justice and that is the court of conscience. It supersedes all other courts."Mohandas Gandhi

One thing that’s often helped me avoid bitterness and ill will is realizing that those who are unkind suffer for it—overtly or not. They are the way they are because of their own issues and as unpleasant as someone might be to experience, it’s undoubtedly more unpleasant to BE that person. Knowing that helps me muster a little more compassion, and reminds me to keep my own nose clean, you know?

Today’s Tarot is the reversed Two of Swords (Moon in Libra) and Justice (Libra). You don’t have to decide who gets theirs and and when. You don’t have to worry over fairness. Nor can you save someone from themselves. The simple truth is that it’s out of your hands.

The day of reckoning comes down, though, quite clearly according to who has done what. So bear that in mind when making your own decisions, huh? And don’t believe for a minute if you don’t see it, it doesn’t happen. Let it all go, and know people pay for their own mistakes, at times in ways that are not evident. Keep your eyes on your own scorecard, and you’ll do fine.

Do you find yourself  hit with the Karma you deserve?

Different points in my life, I’ve had very different ideas on the concept “Everything works out in the end.” On the one hand, it is a bit trite as advice and not terribly comforting. If someone is saying that to you, it’s probably because you’re not convinced of it! Annoying, like a pat on the head and signal to shut up. And sometimes, it sure hasn’t felt that way, either in my own life or observations into other people’s lives. But from the perspective of taking what you get and doing the best you can with it, I can be on board with the concept.

Life is a huge canvas and we’re the painter of our own landscape here. I think we may come into this world with a few, broad strokes penciled in, but most of it is a fill-in as you go, powered by the palate you’ve got on hand and judicious use of free will. Maybe that ugly piece of the composition becomes the basis for something spectacular before we’re done. Or not, I don’t know. But it probably could, if you decided to make it so.

Well heck. Whenever I see all the cards reversed in a reading, I think to myself, “There are some blocks here.” To me, it means the energy is not free-flowing. Doesn’t mean the essence isn’t there—I generally won’t get the card at all unless it is in the mix. But inverted, I know it’s not freely expressing.

So with Justice reversed (Libra), Hanged Man reversed (Neptune), and Knight of Cups reversed (Air in Water)…well, I’d say there’s a lack of balance here. Do things not seem fair, and you’re lacking faith they’ll work out okay? Because that’s looking to be a bit of an emotional disruption. I can go back to the idea that some of the most painful bits of my life gave me invaluable lessons. But that’s still pretty cold comfort when you’re faced with the living of them.

I’m inclined to say life isn’t right or wrong, but just IS. Some pieces are easy and some are hard, but it doesn’t automatically follow that the easier pieces are better and the harder ones are worse any more than sweets are necessarily better than vegetables. I do believe we have the free will, though, to steer and focus toward that which is both healthy and emotionally fulfilling. Oft times, we make our jobs so much harder than they need to be.

So the message today for me is to remain in balance by shoring up my faith that all IS well, just as it should be. Doing so successfully lessens emotional volatility that could attract confusion, pain and trouble that’s easily avoidable. Each life has ups and downs. How good a life it is doesn’t depend on the ratio of ups to downs by any stretch. It’s utterly dependent on how we LIVE the ups and downs we get. The power remains our own.

How well do you manage to stay balanced amidst stressors?

10/16/11: No Navel Gazing | Justice, Hermit Reversed

“Charity begins at home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html, and justice begins next door.” –Charles Dickens

Goes both ways, really. Sometimes, I’m way too kind to myself, not seeing the little peccadillos that drive me nuts in others reflect my own quirks. Other times, I cut everyone on the planet a gigaton of slack but myself none. Neither of these approaches is ideal, y’know?

Today’s Tarot is Justice or Daughter of the Lord of Truth (Libra) and the Hermit or the Magnus of the Voice of Light (Virgo), both Major Arcana. It’s time to impartially balance needs; fairness is absolutely required now for a good outcome. Avoid falling into a victim stance or over-focus on yourself. (That goes for being less kind to yourself as well as more kind.) Everybody has to have equal weight here. Don’t withdraw, engage. Break it down, list it out, and give everyone their due. Just maintain fairness and an even hand. This is what facilitates growth.

How are you at weighing out the facts?

08/04/11: Your Part in the Show | Knight of Pentacles, Strength & Justice

It’s been a bit of a chaotic week around my house. Maybe you’ve noticed, my energy hasn’t been as present? Sorry about that, but real life goes on. However, things are settling I’m glad to say, and as always, Tarot is here to help us  with much-needed perspective. So let’s take a peek, shall we?

  • Prince of Stones (aka Knight of Pentacles), associated with Air in Earth
  • Strength, associated with Leo
  • Justice, associated with Libra

Practical concerns rule the day; don’t let details slide. They matter. Think everything through carefully, and then follow through on your ideas to make it real. Mercury is now in retrograde (infamous communication snafus and do-overs until Aug. 26) along with a Cardinal Grand Cross, so we can safely say there’s stress. Having backup plans and allowing for flexibility is favored in this astro-weather.

Perseverance is also a must—it’s absolutely time to perform! You’re on the stage and will be judged (or more likely, judging yourself) according to how dramatically you pull it together. Special attention to balance and fairness also pays off. Each individual has their own part to play. Appropriate boundaries are a necessity to managing well. Where divisions of responsibility are not equitable, expect problematic issues to surface. While this may be uncomfortable, it’s necessary to resolve such questions for a truly sustainable future.

Cheer on others but earn your own applause, granting loved ones the respect to believe they can earn theirs. Your faith in their abilities to pull it off is more valuable than any direct assistance you could provide, anyway.

You working on your performance?
