02/08/13: Wiggle room? Not much! / 9 of Swords

Nine of Swords ResolutionsUh oh! A repeat man…and not a pretty one. Here, the Nine of Swords pairs up with “Resolution” to tell me you have limited options for resolving.

While the Nine of Swords in general speaks to worry and isolation, this particular version emphasizing that “trapped” feeling by showing a person whose hands are tied, front and center. Looking at yesterday’s Page of Swords in the flow of story, I’m thinking that you may have limited wiggle room.

Could you use a sword to cut the rope? Probably, but be aware you may draw some blood yourself in the process. You’ll have to judge your own risk tolerance on this one.

Where you are is where you are. Work with it as best you can. Id’ say look for the lessons within because somehow, it seems that learning those lessons appear to be central to moving the &%^$ on from this stuff…and don’t overdo the guilt factor. Also, it’s also helpful confiding with others if you’re in a Nine of Swords type situation. If nothing else, the support can help lift your spirits.

Are you feeling limited wiggle room?

02/07/13: Many Words! / Page of Swords

Page of SwordsIn the immediate future, expect many words! The Page of Swords suggests agreements can be reached eventually, but don’t expect a lot of soft, warm and fuzzy emotions to go along with the talk. As a Tarot Page, negotiations or relevant discussions are probably in the early stages.

Which okay, it IS Mercury Retrograde. What do you expect?

Double and triple check paperwork, review details and don’t let yourself get sidetracked. Patience is definitely a Mercury Retro virtue, my friends. But don’t expect life to come to a standstill because of Mercury’s peccadilloes.

Instead, expect many words!

Are you hearing many words?

02/06/14: Rationalization Fail / 7 of Swords Rx

Seven of Swords Rx

Questioning an alliance? A reversed Seven of Swords suggests against outright deception, but with remaining obfuscation nonetheless. Lately, I’ve been wanting to call this card out as self-delusion. But it could just as easily speak to hidden agendas.

Maybe the friend is confused. Or maybe it’s you. Be aware of people proclaiming friendship with vested interests, mixed motivations, or dual agendas. They may be telling themselves they are “hurting nobody,” but I’m not buying it.

Don’t be this brand of “friend,” man! I tell you, it’s not a good idea. “The ends justify the means” approach is a moral black hole. Once you’ve lost your integrity, it’s damn hard to get it back.

Are you seeing these kinds of rationalizations

02/05/14: Oddly Wrapped Gifts / 3 of Wands Rx

Reversed 3 of WandsThe Three of Wands reversed in the “Situation” position says that (probably) through no fault of your own, what you expect may not come in the manner you expect it. This doesn’t mean your preparation is pointless. The card doesn’t show up for me at all unless there is some semblance of it’s energy present, and this card shows reasonable exception of efforts being rewarded.

Just stay flexible! Don’t have a set, preconceived notion of how everything must manifest. If you have rigid expectations of how everything must go down all the time, well…how’s that working out for you?

I know. Not very nice of me.

I would say expect SOMETHING, but be aware your dream date may arrive in an odd outfit. A gift may arrive in plain, unassuming brown paper. You could overlook a real prize if you are only open to acknowledging what you expected to show up with glitter and lace instead of truly looking at the heart of what is before you.

Also understand, what comes in is an answer to the efforts you have put out there. The expectation of payoff is reasonable. A stubborn insistence of what the payoff looks like is what will get you in trouble.

Be present, fully. Expect, but don’t put boundaries around how “it” shows up, and you will most benefit from this energy.

02/03/14: Goodbye, Helplessness! / 9 of Swords

Nine of Swords

To me, the Nine of Swords always evokes those nights when you just cannot sleep, haunted by self-perpetuating thoughts of how there is no way out. And the worst part? Nobody to talk to, and knowing it’s your fault.

Er, ah. Not that I’m speaking from personal experience or anything.

This is what we’re advised to release—“A mindset, resentment, ideal or other situation you need to let go of  to achieve your desired outcome,” according to the Deck of 1000 Spreads.

Well, that’s much nicer than holding on to it. But if it were so damn easy, we wouldn’t be looking at those tied hands to begin with.

Listen: you are where you are. Simplistic maybe, but an accurate observation nonetheless. In our everyday, mundane life, time is liner, always crawling ahead. Take stock, separating out how much is reality of the situation versus how much is fear of where the situation may lead. Many get these conflated.

Question the “unthinkable” regardless (because a lot of the time, “unthinkable” is a euphemism for “I refuse to accept that”).

Realize guilt, isolation, and worry doesn’t help. Right? It just clouds the head. Accept inherent limitations while at the same time, look to reach beyond. This means seeking outside counsel if appropriate. It almost always includes forgiving yourself for being in the situation to begin with.

I’d say once you are familiar with where you are, shift gears to where you want to go, and then look for something, anything—however humble—that moves you a little bit closer. Taking even a small action will help you feel better.

Lather, rinse, repeat. That’s how you let go of the helpless feelings.

You feeling this?

11/16/13: Emotional Binge / Page of Cups

Page of Cups Morgan-GreerThe night my husband proposed to me, I literally felt like I was floating. I was so happy! It was a type of out-of-body experience. I kept checking my feet to see if they were physically touching the ground. And no, I’m not speaking metaphorically.

I checked my feet a lot that week.

And there were the days we had kids move back home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html. Happy and sad and worried and relieved and tired and excited all at the same time. You don’t know how it’s going to work out, but the feelings are intense.

These are just a couple Page of Cups days from my life. The Page is emotional, intense, and not too clear-headed. It’s like being drunk. And while some binges are happy binges and some are sob-fests, none are clear-headed.

It looks to be a watery day, intensely emotional.  Now “emotional” is neither good nor bad in and of itself. It just is.

Do bear in mind what you feel very intensely in this moment may not be what you feel very intensely in two hours. Or two minutes. It varies. Think of it like tying one on. Beware the drunk dial, you know?

Take it all in, but have a healthy portion of perspective set aside for tomorrow. I doubt you’d be able to consume it today.

Are you feeling the waves?
