10/12/12: Yeah, but…| 2 of Cups Reversed

Most of us don’t think in terms of black or white, or at least, most psychologically healthy people don’t! We live in a world of shades, with ups and downs and everything in between. The card today makes me think, “Yeah, but,” because it illustrates what’s essentially an emotional shade of gray.

Tarot is full of polarity—yin and yang, light and dark, man and woman. The Lovers shows a strong example of this principle, whereas the Two of Cups  (Venus in Cancer) acts as a lesser version of the Lovers energy. I would expect to see this card surrounding relationships or even a feeling about something that is emotional, but not necessarily as transformative and long-lasting as when the Lovers appears. There always seems to be a reflective quality to Lovers and Two of Cups situations. What you see in the other impacts how you see yourself and vice versa.

Reversed, there’s a disconnect of some sort. Maybe you care, but a distance is creeping up unnoticed. Maybe you have mixed feelings about your work or friends—the card can speak to your feelings about something or someone other than a romantic partner, you know. Maybe there is a resentment or unspoken issue that’s wedging in.

What’s clear is that somehow, somewhere, someone just ain’t feeling the love!

Can you correct it? Can you address the divide? Would it be better to move on? That’s something to decide for yourself. What I can say is that a vague sense of dissatisfaction isn’t a passing mood so much as it’s indication of a drifting apart between you and whomever or whatever it is that you love.

Are you feeling the love? If not, do you know where to look?

10/11/12: Put it Down Already! | Rev 2 of Pentacles

Let’s get to the point—I’m busy! Juggling Pentacles takes it out of you, man.

The reversed Two of Pentacles is looking pretty clear to me today: drop the extraneous or you’re going to lose track of something you’re trying to hang on to. That’s not what you want now, is it?

Delegate, release responsibility (especially if it isn’t yours to begin with), hand off, let go, put it behind you. If you don’t do it willingly, the universe will do it for you.

Do you have anything you could stand to put down about now?

09/01/12: Perspective | Tower reversed

Here we are. Or rather, there we were. Ha! The sky has done fallen, no fault of Chicken Little. I will say, though, The Tower (Mars) is one of those cards I prefer to see inverted. The reversal seems to mitigate the shock, just a bit.

If you’ve already felt the Tower’s influence, expect recovery to be underway. If you haven’t yet, be on the lookout in or around your life. The Tower speaks to shakeups of all kinds. But always with the Tower, there was a false foundation, a root of the matter that is what actually brought the house down. So maybe mourn, sure, but not too hard. It had to happen, really.

I search memories, looking for a personal story to share, a “Tower” story. Losing the house? Having a boyfriend committed? Addiction denial? There are many. Then I remember, oh yeah, I have told a personal Tower story.

One of the things I love about being the age I am is having that backdrop of experience. My life has had many towers that have come crashing down. Not ONE of them, nary a single one, has it been ultimately bad or wrong, long term, for the Tower to topple.

I find that incredibly comforting. Especially whenever I’m faced with a new Tower crashing. Maybe you do, too. Perspective softens the Tower’s aftermath.

What do you find true of “Tower moments?”

08/31/12: Chores | King of Swords

Man, we’re having a run on Swords lately, huh?

What’s dragging you down? What interferes? Energy vampires? Time suckers? Lack of focus? What is in your life that does NOT contribute to your happiness, well-being, or service to the world? What creates waste, irrationality, what is not helpful or wise?

Because the King does not approve!

Today, I’m seeing him as admonishing to get focused, get on task. Make your lists, craft a plan, and start already! If you don’t think you have the time or energy to achieve, he has advice: drop the unessential. Lose the dead weight and you’ll be surprised, how high you can fly.

Okay, Sire. I hear you. I’m getting busy on my list!

Do you have some King of Swords chores to attend to?

08/30/12: What’s sneaking in? | 7 of Swords

seven-swords-meaning-tarotWhat sneaks up on you? What deception is coming to light?

Ah, the Seven of Swords—associated with Moon in Aquarius. Someone may be shocked, when the truth outs! This is generally a card of deception, hidden agendas, underhandedness or dishonesty. At the very least, whatever is going on is under-the-radar, not meant for public consumption. Whatever situation, the hope is to avoid attention.

“Something ain’t right in the milk,” as they say. That’s what the Seven of Swords signifies. Often, there is a theft, literal or figurative. Not all is lost necessarily. A couple of those Swords have been left behind. But don’t be surprised if the impact is significant.

For me, it’s old ways of defining myself, of evaluating, of constructing my own reality. It’s those old “mental tapes” I thought long retired. It’s needing proof that I’m a good enough person, because you know what? Deep down, I don’t always believe it.

When this sneaks it, it COSTS. And then, it’s gone like a thief in the night, leaving little if any trace. Leaving us confused, no idea what’s happened.

Well, today, look around. Question assumptions. Be aware of hidden agendas, dishonesty, and simply incomplete facts. See if there is any deception hiding in your worldview, any slight-of-hand in your emotional life. Root it out. Keep all your swords; they belong to you.

08/06/12: Still Bothersome | Tower Reversed

tarot-tower-meaningIt’s not the end of the world, just in case that’s what it feels like. While the Tower (Mars) upright signals that which is built on false foundations coming down, the reversed Tower doesn’t seem to have the same punch. It still smacks of disruption, don’t get me wrong. But not the same punch nonetheless.

My best advice in such situations: wait it out. Don’t stress too much, and do your absolute best to shore yourself up. As they say, this too shall pass.

Not bad advice if I say so myself. Okay. Maybe I just did. Ha!

Are you feel some disruption?
