08/16/11: Emotional Purge | Eight of Cups

eight-cups-tarotI’ve been working on purging belongings—one of those messages I was trying to ignore. It’s not going super fast or anything, but it IS going, bit by bit, and it does feel better, I have to admit. While it’s physical stuff I’m cleaning out, the ultimate result is that energy cobwebs are being dissipated at the same time. Stuff holds vibes, y’know?

08/15/11: Thundering Truths | Reversed Tower

tower-reversed-tarotEpiphanies—sometimes, they suck! But it doesn’t make them any less vital.

“There comes a point when you either embrace who and what you are, or condemn yourself to be miserable all your days. Other people will try to make you miserable; don’t help them by doing the job yourself.” -Laurell K. Hamilton

maj16sToday’s Tarot forecast is the Tower reversed or Lord of the Hosts of the Mighty, associated with Mars. The Mystic Dreamer version is not quite as chilling as the traditional RWS version—no people plummeting out the windows!–but the disruption is evident nonetheless, as you’d expect for a Mars-ruled card.

What’s built on illusion, sooner or later, it’s coming down. This is what the Tower illustrates—building upon false premises, creating an unstable foundation. The more doggedly you cling, refusing to acknowledge discrepancies, denying and self-deluding, the harder the fall.  Inverted, the worst fallout is most likely done, although I’d expect bits and pieces of understanding to pop up amidst the rubble for some time.

The inverted Tower is indication the war is not in full swing—it could be coming or going, but whatever structure wasn’t solid or real has been or is in process of being decimated. It’s over, not coming back in the form it once appeared. If you’re willing to let go of the illusion, you won’t be one of those folks tumbling from burning mess.

Do you see a Tower falling around you?

Everyday Tarot, 05/22/11: Believing What You Want / 7 of Cups

daily-tarot-forecast-seven-cupsI used to work in detox, and before that, a decade in mental health. I’ve had some education, training and plenty of experience dealing with all kinds of issues, substance abuse in particular.

But it wasn’t until I had to deal with it in my own family that I fully realized the power of denial. I used to marvel at the cluelessness “detox moms”–until I was one. Funny how much that can change, and how fast. Even having every advantage in identifying the signs, and it still took me forever to figure out.  I didn’t want it to be true hard enough to block it from getting in.

Everyday Tarot, 05/21/11: Art of Manifesting with Inverted Nine of Cups

daily-tarot-forecast-inverted-nine-cupsBe careful what you wish for. You may get it. –English Proverb

After all, the grass is not always greener. It just looks that way from the other side of the fence. So why haven’t you manifested yourself a prettier lawn, grasshopper?!?

Today’s Tarot Forecast is the inverted Nine of Cups, or “Lord of Material Happiness,” associated with Jupiter in Pisces. Sometimes known as “The Wish Card,” it’s all about big (Jupiter) dreams (Pisces) coming to life! In the suit of cups (Emotion), we’re definitely talking wishes near and dear to your heart. Inverted, I’d say it’s not quite there yet, or something’s in the way. Uh oh!

Everyday Tarot, 05/20/11: Misunderstood Strength / Queen of Swords

Queen of SwordsAs someone who counsels others, I’m not without awareness it’s a whole lot easier to give suggestions than to take them. Knowing intellectually and knowing emotionally are two entirely different animals, and the twain doesn’t always meet. Feelings are a strength, but it also takes strength to manage them!

Everyday Tarot, 05/06/11: Strength through Feelings & Queen of Cups

mystic-dreamer-tarot-card-queen-cups“You’re emotions are not a weakness. They are your strength,” my husband says to me, in midst of a particularly messy meltdown. On top of the issue (which I no longer remember), I was supremely upset with myself for not having control over those emotions! My Saturn (limits) is hooked up with Pisces (feelings), so I work (Saturn) very hard on maintaining control (Saturn). Um…it’s an ongoing project.

I took a lot of comfort, because I find it true. I also heard myself telling a client the same recently over “losing it.” Feelings are indeed a strength I wouldn’t want to be without, despite the cost sometimes of having so damn many of them.

Today’s Tarot is the Queen of Cups, associated with Water in Water. This is an emotional gal! Like all queens, her focus is often felt inwardly, or perhaps within her inner circle, in a very yin fashion. You’ll see her  during periods of heavy emotional processing, actively building intuitive skills, or even starting therapy. Matters of emotional import speak most clearly to her. Dreaminess and ethereal knowing are her domain.

Much like working with muscles builds strength, working with feelings builds insight. If you are hearty enough to weather the turbulence, you can get past the impact t0 see more clearly, deeper and better than you could ever hope to not allowing direct access to your heart.

The Queen of Cups knows it’s through emotion we connect by opening up the channel. It’s through feeling anther’s pain, or joy, or fear, or wonder that we broaden our own world. She would have us let those feelings wash in, allow and sit with them, seeing exquisite beauty and exquisite pain as all part of the very same force. Without them, life is flat and dull. With them, yes, we can feel discomfort, but that potential also carries the potential for ecstasy. You  have to let one in to allow for the other.

golden-compass-astrology-tarot“Feelings” are also the main source of intuitive insight. If you shut down your feelings, you’ve shut down your radar. Whereas the more you attend to your feelings, the sharper your intuitive radar becomes. Emotional flux becomes a reliable guidepost for taking stock, finding gratitude, processing loss and finding direction.

The message today is to welcome feelings, and look for what they are there to tell you. By allowing them, you get direct access to the best possible compass you could ever hope to find— a spiritual compass. The needle might waver for a minute when the signal is especially strong, but it’s never completely off. Let it guide.

Do you find emotions a hindrance or strength?
