Queen of Pents: (Still) Being the Change

Sometimes, it’s challenging to take your own damn advice. Don’t you just hate that?

Stay in your own lane. Keep the faith. Avoid judging. Back to center. Stability before all else. Feel your way forward. Act only from love. Hand it over to the Universe. It’s not your job to manage the world. It’s your job to be the true to who you are. Live the change(s) you want to see.

These are the sorts of thoughts I share here regularly and they aren’t just pretty-sounding words for me. They are deep, heartfelt intentions. They represent how I mean to live every day of my life.

So imagine my chagrin at finding myself feeling agitated, drawn to doing just the opposite of what I believe and preach on a day-in, day-out basis. Oy!

Now, I’ve done pretty well in exercising self-control. Thank the Gods! It saves me from a lot of trouble, to be frank. I’ll never try to push someone else into being me. Beyond the fact I believe that effort to be morally wrong, it simply doesn’t work very well.

Good people come from an infinite variety of backgrounds and experiences. This suggests they will also have an infinite variety of perspectives. While I enjoy exposure to new perspectives, some will naturally be a good fit while others simply won’t. That means absolutely nothing big picture, as far as I’m concerned. To others, perhaps it does. I’m not about to live my life according to the definitions of others. I’ve made a lot of hard choices in my life to walk my own path and I consider it a sacred responsibility to do just that.

I can say I’ve been the recipient of social pressure from people believing they were acting in my best interests. Knowing what it’s like, I’ll never do it to someone else. Strong enough threats may garner superficial compliance, but that’s not persuasion. It’s fear. Fear only goes as far as the threat reaches, for as long as an individual continues to care about the threat more than they value personal freedom. Whether or not it “works,” relationships subjected to this process can be damaged ways that may not ever completely heal. It’s not something I would take lightly.

I care about the people in my life more than I care about being right, either subjectively or objectively. I’ve been reminding myself of this on a daily basis. Remembering this has been very helpful in maintaining those aforementioned intentions.

If you want to see change in the world (or more specifically, change in YOUR world) there is only one reliable way I see to ensure it: live that change. Let the change you want permeate your heart, mind and soul. It becomes your world front and center because it IS your life.

You’ll get your chance in the coming week to do just that, if you’re so inclined.

Next Week in Tarot

Outlook for the coming week is the Queen of Pentacles upright (nice!) with advice as the reversed Ace of Pentacles. More info provided by the reversed Nine of Cups–I wanted to double check myself on the advice and this card did the trick. These beautiful cards are from my well-worn Legacy of the Divine deck.

I love this deck, and find this incarnation of the Queen particularly stunning. She practically oozes fertility and abundance, from the rich green color scheme to the statement-piece flower pendant and even the lovely blooms on her dress. The glow from the third eye suggests a deep level of inner knowing. She understands the cycle of growth on an intuitive level. She knows what’s growing. She vibrates the change she wishes to see.

In terms of action steps–make plans now, not moves. The reversed Ace of Pentacles says it’s time to start envisioning what comes next. Action steps are close. That Ace wouldn’t show up otherwise, but not quite there.

The reversed Nine of Cups reinforces the idea: the timing isn’t quite perfect (yet), but close. Evision your perfect scenario, not bothering so much about the “how” part. Just look for hints and pieces of it to offer itself to you. You won’t see the entire path–we never do. Instead, you’ll see the next logical step as it comes into great focus. I’m expect that next step to be a little foggy next week, but you should start getting a whiff of it nonetheless.

Take heart. See the world around you as growing and evolving and know you’ll have a concrete place in it. Look to make sure YOU are on your path and let the Universe work the rest out. It does, like magick.

If you’d like a personal consult, give me a holler. We’ll sort out what YOUR intentions are all about.

Nine of Cups & Strength: Contentment Despite the Rain

I slipped outside yesterday to sip coffee on the front porch, stealing a few minutes between the rain showers.

I was inwardly irritated at the Universe over a week’s worth of unrelenting rain, if you want to know the truth. After days and days of dark clouds filling the sky, I was feeling emotionally waterlogged enough to match the weather.

“Would it kill you to give us a little sunshine, damnit?” I grumbled under my breath. (The neighbors already think I’m weird enough.)

That’s when I took notice of the flowers.

My humble little flowerpots scattered around the front porch were bursting with pretty little blooms. I may get tired of all the rain, but it obviously was doing wonders for those flowers.

I was still looking forward to brighter weather, but in that moment I stopped feeling so bothered by the rain. I could see where it was serving a useful purpose.

The bigger world feels like an exaggerated version of unrelenting rain to me right about now. I have been feeling waterlogged by all of it. But now, I’m also wondering what flowers might be blooming as a result.

Next Week in Tarot

9 of Cups / Strength

For the outlook this week we got the Nine of Cups (Water), with Strength as advice. The gentle imagery is from the Good Tarot deck. Don’t worry–I’ll go back to seeing other decks.  But for today, still, I was looking for a gentle voice.

In fact, the voice here was so gentle, it confused me.

Weekly outlook of the “wish card?”  I’m missing something. That seems utterly unrealistic.

I seldom speak explicitly about current events here. It’s not like what’s going on out in the world isn’t already baked in to any discussion of the universal vibes. Mostly though, I already hear countless voices doing just that, preaching their perspectives. I’m not saying there isn’t value in all of those voices or the missions their speakers undertake. It’s just not my mission.

Stepping back from the particulars, however, doesn’t mean I’m not impacted.

It’s cloudy other there. I want something much sunnier than what I’m am feeling.  It would be difficult to characterize the world as anything short of “stormy” at this moment.

That’s why these cards confused me. Because really, Tarot….

“What on Earth am I supposed to make of that forecast?” I wanted to know.

hermit

The Hermit.

Oh. The Hermit.

I got it.

The Nine of Cups here–typically denoting feelings along the lines of contentment, satisfaction and pleasure–is an outlook that will remain accessible, but on an individual level. It’s not automatic. In the rain, appreciation for what that rain brings is a perspective that must be chosen and cultivated to take root.

This mermaid pictured on the version card has collected her treasures and they are defined as such precisely because she’s chosen to treasure them. I may not value the string of pearls the way she does, but that’s totally irrelevant to her. It’s her appreciation itself that elevates the objects to the status of treasure. Her joy is internally generated.

The Hermit reminds us it’s honing views and following intuitive nudges that refine our inner landscape. He doesn’t need the world to validate his conclusions about what good and right.  He cultivates his own garden in that regard.

In terms of advice, Strength always suggests to me a very gentle yet never wavering approach. She lives her truth with a gentle, consistent integrity. The salient piece of Strength’s advice isn’t really about what one is doing, but rather how it’s done. Living the best version of what you consider right, humbly and without deviation, is exactly how to embody the core energy of Strength.

So if you consider your role of greatest satisfaction preaching loud and proud with the mission of converting hearts and minds, so be it. Do that! If you find the most satisfaction in living your personal truth, hoping in the process to cheer and encourage others doing the same, so be it. Do that! Plant your flowers.

There is always rain. There always will be rain. But there are always sunshine and flowers to follow as well. Whether we’re noticing mostly rain or the sun in any given moment, we do have choices. As for me, I’m on the lookout for some flowers.

Reach out if you’d like a personal consult. We’ll look at how you can cultivate your own flowers.

Nine of Cups: Self-Validating Unicorns

I’ve been noticing with special clarity lately how vastly dependent “good” and “bad” is on perspective.

It’s always been there. What’s fat or skinny, what’s rich or poor? And yes, even what’s good or bad–it’s all completely subjective. I’ve done enough weight loss support and talked to enough Tarot clients to say this without hesitation!

What’s more, these designations will alter not based upon the circumstance, but ALWAYS based on the in-the-moment perspective of the individual.

The job that seemed utterly perfect at one point may be considered the worst ever at another point (or even another point in the same week).  Same for the relationship or the house or the car or whatever it is you’re concerned with at any given moment. People I consider thin may worry about their weight. People who seem rich to me can be upset about money. It’s an internal state, NOT an external one.

And however you feel is however you feel and there is no rightness or wrongness about that. It just is.

And it makes sense to make peace with wherever you are at, because what choice do you have? It’s current. It’s where you are at. Feeling crummy about it doesn’t change it. It just makes it harder to change it.

That’s not equivalent to resignation, by the way. It’s actually what unsticks you, not anchors.

Being at peace with where you are gives you a choice where you go with it. You can lean into whatever feels a little better, a little more satisfying, from wherever you’re at. That can be steered with just a little effort, caring about feeling better over other considerations. Choosing the thoughts you follow based on what soothes.

Or you can lean into worry and tension and upset. It’s always up to you, which way you lean from where you’re at.

And I’m not going to tell you one is right and one is wrong, because I don’t see the world that way. But I will tell you, one feels better. That’s the one I like to pick.

And that’s the topic of the Tarot forecast for next week.

Next Week in the Cards

This week, for outlook we have the Nine of Cups (Water) with advice coming in as the Seven of Wands (Fire) from The Good Tarot.

Now, the Nine of Cups is definitely a card of satisfaction–a wish being fulfilled. (Were you wishing for Mercury to go direct? Granted!) So I would expect to have some relief in the coming week if you’ve been struggling. And if not, still expect there to be icing on your cake, okay? This looks good to me.

Interesting in terms of advice, though…that Seven of Wands. To keep the “satisfaction vibe” active, you may have to reject or ward off the opinions of others. This is easier to do than you may appear at first glance, but it definitely takes practice.

What someone else thinks of you? Doesn’t matter. Whether or not anybody else agrees on what’s best? Doesn’t matter. Who approves of what or how many people sign on to your vision? NONE of this matters, not even one tiny little bit.

Insecurity fuels seeking outside validation. That’s a short-lived reassurance because it can and does change based on where someone else is at, at any given moment. The only lasting form of security comes from within. There is no other route.

You be your fancy, unique Unicorn self and *%#% the rest of anything else, okay?

Take care out there!

And if you want a one-on-one check to clear your head here, give me a holler.

Nine of Cups: Finding Value in Everything

I read an interview with Stephen Colbert, some time ago. And there was a part that really stuck with me.

He ended up as a comedian because of a tragedy. And he says of that, “You’ve got to learn to love the bomb.” The bomb is whatever blew your life up.

You can be grateful for what a bomb gave you, without having wanted it to happen. Those are two different things. They can and do coexist.

It’s Eclipse season, folks. Which you already know, if you’ve not been too “eclisped out” to notice. Big, bold shifts of energy everywhere you look.

And I’m thinking of BIG changes, big shifts. All those big shifts we ride through the years. Some of them are bombs, without question.

How they never turn out to be what you think they are going to be, at the time. How some of the most challenging turn out to define you, help you hone in on who you really want to be, at a depth you’d never found, nor would have been driven to find, outside the experience that spurred it.

And you can’t go back. Not that you’d want to. Not really. But it doesn’t matter, because there is no “back.”

There is only forward. And it’s your choice, what you do with that.

The Nine of Cups is often called “the wish card” and often read as a wish granted (including by me). But today, I want to call it “contentment” instead. And contentment isn’t contingent on any outside condition.

You don’t have to get your wish, to be content. In fact, it has nothing to do with what you have at all, and everything to do with how you’re thinking about it.

[bctt tweet=”Contentment is a perspective, not an outcome. #OnMyRadar” via=”no”]

So many times, people try to refill their spirit from the outside. Who loves me? Who agrees with me? Who reassures me? Who validates me?

When the conditions of my life better, I’ll be better! When I find someone who will give me what I want, I’ll be happy.

Those kinds of refills are only temporary at best, because the hole is constantly recreated by the doubts that spawned the questions. Of course it feels good when other people shine their love on you! And it feels good when you shine your love on them. But the only way for that love to flow freely is if you are shining on yourself, first.

Stay centered, my friends. Don’t worry about what others think of you, because it’s impossible for that to be about you anyway. And how you feel about it is always and only a translation of how you feel about you. All roads lead home, always. Always, always, always. There is no other way it can be.

Whatever bombs you have, do your best to appreciate them. Tap into the best of everything it gave you, through your appreciation and loving energy. And in doing so, you get access to the power of it.

Contentment isn’t a destination. It’s a perspective, and it’s accessed entirely by choice. Choosing what you focus on in any given experience, what vein you tap. It’s all there but you can mine what you choose from it.

Be well.

This week’s forecast features Osho Zen deck and man, is it pretty! Holler at me if you wanna go for a one-on-one session.

Who Cares about the Brussel sprouts? Tarot Forecast, Dec. 5 – 11

When my kids were little, they did the same thing all kids do: they looked at ugly veggies like brussel sprouts and declared them disgusting.

I had already firmly established I wasn’t going to make multiple, separate meals for dinner. Frankly, they were lucky I came up with one! But it still was an issue for me getting some veggies down their little gullets, taking my parental responsibilities for their well-being quite seriously as young mothers often do.

“Okay, that’s fine if you don’t like something. As an adult, I don’t force myself to eat things I don’t like. But I expect you to try it before declaring it disgusting.”

See, the “I fixed it just how you like it, with salt and pepper and butter!” had stopped working. So I made a rule, there must be a full bite taken, chewed and swallowed before determining whether or not something was “disgusting” and before being excused from the table

You see where this is going?

Worst rule I ever conjured. It gave me a lot more grief with the boy child than just letting him turn his nose up the the green spheres and be done with it.

Instead, we had a battle of wills. Over brussel sprouts. Who would give in first?

Honestly, I don’t remember who is was that folded. I just remember an extracted battle that felt lousy and completely missed the point of encouraging him to try something new in an open, accepting atmosphere.

This week? It’s kind of like that. You can insist on things that are not really that important (as both of us were doggedly doing in my story). Or you can look at the bigger picture and only insist on what matters. Because most of it doesn’t.

20161203_213207_hdr

Overall, the week is not looking too bad! Basically any setbacks this week look minor and as long as you keep in mind what matters most and dismiss the rest, they are not gonna throw you. Lots of opportunities for replenishing and if you take them, it’s smooth sailing. So go forth and have an awesome week.

Monday, Nine of Cups rx: Generally, I read this card as “almost perfect.” You can find complaints if you look, but why look? There is a lot to enjoy if you’re not a whiner. So don’t be a whiner!

Tuesday, Empress: Awesome day! Creative day, as this is the Tarot Mama. Good day to give birth to something new, or self care is good. Anything you do under the Empresses influence to heal or build yourself up, it tends to be especially effective. Good day.

Wednesday, The Lovers: Expect harmony. Usually with the Lovers, there is choice involved as when the man chooses to be with the wife and leave home, for example. We’re generally looking at fortuitous, comfortable. Will have the option to get your vibe on with people of like mind, so enjoy!

Thursday, Nine of Wands rx: A little different than what we’ve had up to this point. Usually, I’ll see this when someone is tired of holding out. Would not focus a whole bunch on getting your individual way. Shift focus to the bigger picture, what is really important. Forget specifics, but look to principles to get the most here.

Friday, Seven of Wands: Echoing same theme as yesterday. Look at core values, not little details. If it’s not important, let it the heck go!

Saturday, High Priestess: Great time to make time for quiet, contemplative events. Time outside if it’s not too cold, meditation, music, etc. Intuition is in high gear. It’s access through quiet activity, creative stuff, exercising your imagination, dreamwork, etc. Know your radar is in high gear, even if you’re not overly energetic. Not a super active vibe, but very receptive.

Sunday, Queen of Pents rx: Take care of yourself FIRST, before extending hospitality to others. If you don’t, you’ll run out of gas before it’s done.

Overview/Advice: Ten of Pentacles rx. Still a nice vibe even reversed. Stronger upright but still a good vibe. Know this week’s setbacks are minor and you can easily work your way around it if you choose. Keep the good attitude and it will go well. In fact, issues that come up can be helpful in terms of providing useful info anywho. Freaking out, it goes downhill, so keep the good attitude. Do what you can to roll with the flow and don’t get worked up.

Affirmation: As I say yes to life, life says yes to me. Take a chance! Do what you really want to do. For me this conjures up the idea, so many times when we’re looking at why we want something, we actually think in terms of what they don’t want, not what they do. It may seem like the same thing saying you don’t want to be sick vs. you want to be healthy, but it’s a lot different vibration. It’s not as subtle difference as you’d think. There is a big difference between pushing against vs. pulling for, although both bring more into your life.

Do you pick your battles? Or does it depend on your mood?

Minding Your Own Business is Good Medicine: Tarot Forecast, Oct 31 – Nov 6, 2016

“I’ve decided to forget worrying about my kids,” I told my mom the other day. “I am staying out of their business completely and I’m a lot happier this way.”

“Really, Dixie? I don’t know how you can manage it.”

I was surprised. Really surprised. I thought my mom was pretty darned good at this! With the exception of an occasional lapse, she almost never tells us what to do or expresses judgement over our choices. (Okay. I’m not counting that face she makes sometimes when she sees something she doesn’t like. She can’t help that.)

“Oh, I worry all the time,” Mom confided. “It never stops. I just try to keep my mouth shut unless I’m asked.”

She clearly does a pretty good job of it.

For me, it’s not about caring. I care every iota as much as I ever have.

It’s just that my kids are adults now and I respect that. I respect the fact their choices are not mine, any more than my choices are my mother’s. I respect the fact they have access to the exact same resources as I do–those of the Universal stream of wellness. And I respect that, as individuals, it’s THEIR JOB to live their lives and figure out what they want and how to live. Not mine.

Also, it’s a whole lot nicer to say, “I’m sure you’ll figure it out” and mean it than to try and figure it out for them. It’s just good medicine, minding your own business, all around.

This week? This would be a very handy philosophy to adopt in general. (Okay, I think “always,” not just this week. But I am admittedly biased.)

Tarot Forecast Halloween Week

Happy Halloween, y’all! I decided to skip the Zombie Tarot this week even though the forecast begins on Halloween because why? I didn’t feel like using it. Reason enough, man.

If you’re into audio, here’s an audio version of this weekly forecast reading. You can also subscribe to the audios (and whatever else I toss up there) on iTunes here or you can download the files or subscribe via rss here.  Because who knows what I might decide to record and toss up there?

We’ve got some inverted cards, especially in the beginning of the week. So the energy is there, but not freely expressing. So we’ll probably have a slow start to the week, but no worries. It clears nicely by the end of the week. Looking at themes, I’m seeing the idea of being responsible for your own self and only your own self, and butting out of everybody else’s self. Even if you “know they are wrong!” Especially if you feel that way. You know why?

Trusting another to work out their own life, their own thoughts, and their own course is an act of respect and love. Anything short of that is sending the message, “I don’t trust you.” Not only that, but “I don’t trust your connection to the Universe to get you through this is the best way possible. So I have will do for you.” That, my friends, is not true and it’s a fancy way of avoiding mirrors.

Monday, Ten of Pentacles rx: I like this card in general. But today, I want to tell you to be aware of your purchases and put off impulse purchases. I don’t see this as heavy, not a big financial issue, but more like buying something and seeing it on sale the next day. Also? Extrapolate the concepts towards energy resources and not just cash. Like you may start something that requires more time, energy or effort than you were prepared for. So expenditures of any sort may demand more than you had initially budgeted. Not a shortage so much as just more than you expected.

Tuesday, The Empress rx: The Empress is a peach no matter how she shows up. Today though…don’t mother those that don’t want to be mothered. Don’t meddle or offer unsolicited advice. You’ll have much better luck focusing on your OWN projects instead of other people’s projects.

Wednesday, Ten of Wands: Here’s one I’d rather see inverted! But you get what you get. Many tasks. Feelings of being burdened with responsibilities. Ask yourself, which are truly yours. Some may not be. Secondly, prioritize for the important stuff and let everything else go. Focus first and foremost on what matters truly, and the day will go well.

Thursday, Queen of Wands rx: Normally when this lady shows up reversed, there can be potential for being stubborn or overcontrolling. But right now, let’s hone in on your disposition and general attitude. There is a tendency to be fussy over stuff that isn’t that big deal in the bigger picture. Like a child who has missed their nap, there may be a little crankiness out in the wild. If your mood is off, cut yourself and everybody else some slack. Withdraw instead of striking out and allow yourself time to get back to your happy space.

Friday, Eight of Wands: Stuff may feel unsettled and up in the air. But the energy is moving quickly and it will be settled in short order. Know that all the components already in place. Like someone who has already sent off a letter that cannot be retrieved, what’s going down is a done deal. So let it be and call upon your faith because that’s what you’ve got.

Saturday, Nine of Cups: Weekend looks great! This is “the wish card.” All is right with the world kind of feeling. Expect a good day and enjoy it.

Sunday, Four of Swords: It’s an opportunity to set down your burdens and rest and replenish. It should be a happy, fun and replenishing time for most over the weekend. Have fun!

Overview/Advice: Page of Cups: Be loving, be kind, and live from your heart, yes. But to expand, pay a lot of attention to your feelings! They are your GPS. If it feels icky, don’t touch it! Please don’t let your brain talk you out of it. You don’t need a list of reasons why you don’t feel it. And likewise, if you’re feeling excited, go with it! Don’t separate yourself from your own internal signal by discounted it. Your emotions are extremely important, this is where you get so much guidance! So throughout the week, look to let your emotions chart your course. Honor them, as they are SO valuable and important! A lot of psychic and intuitive info comes in this way.

Affirmation: I am at peace with my age. What are you gonna do if you’re not? Makes a lot of sense to make peace with whatever you cannot change. If you know me, you know I pretty much don’t care about my age. Your age doesn’t dictate what you can and cannot do. What’s in your heart and your desires drives this. I love being my age–I like the life experience and the confidence that comes with a few miles, along with a little broader perspective. But you will feel how you feel. I would suggest, however, you look for things to appreciate about whatever age or place you happen to be, you’ll be much happier. Look to stuff to feel good about no matter what!

You cannot control others. You are happier when you live life not obsessing over what you cannot control. Be happy. Live your own life and focus on what matters to you. Show everyone the same respect. It’s the best advice I can give you…for this week and yes, forever beyond, too.

Are you at peace with what cannot be changed?

This forecast uses the Tarot Nova mini deck, and the Louise Hay Power Thought Cards for the affirmation. If you dig my stuff, you may like my book, Everyday Tarot Archives, and/or a consult. Be well! ~Dix
