05/13/12: Considered Action | Temperance, Page of Wands

“However glorious an action in itself, it ought not to pass for great if it be not the effect of wisdom and intention.” –Francois de La Rochefoucauld

Happy Mother’s Day!

Today’s Tarot is Temperance (Sagittarius) and the Page of Wands (Earth in Fire). Yeah, you may know exactly what you want and exactly how to do it. But Temperance suggests a little moderation, eager one. Your ideas can be made better if you rein in over-the-top impulses and look for ways to integrate other ideas, other approaches.

Passion is at the heart of many a creation. But if you look for a balanced, moderate understanding of all the relevant details first, your passion will be more focused. Mixing drive and emotion, taking action in concert with intuitive reflection, is your best bet.

Are you chomping at the bit to start something?

05/04/12: Light Touch | Page Wands, 8 Cups

IMG_2140

We’ve got the Page of Wands and the Eight of Cups from Osho Zen. Light touch today, my friends. Approach new ideas and projects with a playful, joyous attitude. Build, begin, and create, but make sure it’s fun and happy doing so. That infuses what you’re doing with the light, grateful energy. And this helps very, very much in leaving behind whatever you’ve been letting go of. Fill any voids with new life.

Are you moving on to something new? Do you get joy from it?

02/04/12: Passion isn’t Enough | Page of Wands

“Creativity is a natural extension of our enthusiasm.” –Earl Nightingale

I’m an “idea person.” I have a lot of them and they are often quite good, if I do say so myself. (And I obviously do!) But I’ve been bitten in the butt a number of times over my ideas, because my excitement blurred the actual amount of real world work and potential complications involved in materializing those ideas. The creative process is not all fun and games, you know.

Today’s Tarot is the Page of Wands (Earth in Fire)—as a page, he represents a young or immature energy and as one of the Tarot Wands, obviously chomping at the bit to get moving! You may see this page to announce news about a job, getting started on a project, or as a reminder you are being a bit immature about getting your way! (He’s not exactly the master of delayed gratification, man.)

Man, this little fellow looks like quite a little pistol, doesn’t he? And he is! He can be fun for sure, but like most spitfire kids, he can also wear you out. There is definitely a time and place for his play.

Enthusiasm and energy are great! They add lifeblood to new enterprise, a passion absolutely essential for getting off the ground. Use it to it’s best advantage, but be sure to back it up with a little plodding, practical earth energy, lest you find yourself focusing exclusively on the sizzle and missing the meat, you know?

Enjoy your passion! It’s fun, invigorating, and unquestionably fuels the creative process. But don’t rely on it to sustain you from start to finish. Instead, take that beginning and build on it. That’s what will actually get you somewhere.

12/24/11: Confused Desire | Rev Page Wands, Rev King Wands, 7 Cups

It took a Virgo moon to point out to me how over-the-top my reaction was. I was going through a painful transition, and had become a massive bundle of unfiltered emotion. Once I realized I’d wandered off the charts, I could also see where it came from. It was a very old, deep well being hit. Understanding where it came from gave me the clarity to process the feelings and shake off some of the fog. I then knew what to do. It gave me my power back.

We’ve all got sore spots. Challenges, or “growth opportunities,” as the hopelessly optimistic like to say. It’s easy enough to forget they’re around, until one meets with a little friction and gets sparked. The emotions kick in, God only knows what’s gonna come out of our mouths and sometimes, we’re left wondering, “What the Hell just happened?!”

seven-cups-meaning

Today’s Tarot is the reversed Page of Wands (Earth in Air), reversed King of Wands (Fire in Air) and Seven of Cups (Venus in Scorpio). If you just can’t seem to get anything started and you can’t seem to manage what you’ve got going, review the choices you’re making, what you’re chasing after. Make sure you’ve got clarity surrounding what you’re after and why.

Your deepest (Scorpio)  desires (Venus) are at play, and may be the source of confusion. If what you really seek is buried, painful to think about, you could end up chasing all the wrong dreams trying to fulfill that drive. It becomes a hunger that cannot be erased—only quieted for a minute. Because you’re not actually chasing what you need, the solutions fail to satisfy. Lacking direction and control can be a direct function of buried desires. Areas you’re intensely emotional over are good candidates for further examination. Freeing this up gives you the drive, clarity and direction to keep on going.

Can you think of a time you were confused by desires?

12/03/11: Facing Up to Pain |Rev Knave of Wands/ Rev 5 of Chalices

"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding." Khalil Gibran

The unthinkable had happened, and I was stunned. Shocked, numb and overwhelmed. I started shaking and crying and knew, somehow, it had to all be a mistake. How could there be a God, when I’d prayed so long and hard, and more than that, KNEW I was right, that I wanted only good and had done my best to do my part? I didn’t accept it. It simply couldn’t’ stand. That was it. And to Hell with God! I was done praying and considering myself agnostic. I’d show God: I declared myself an atheist!

This was my Saturn return—losing custody—and although I’ve had other challenging experiences since, it stands out as one of those snapshots in time when I’ve been hit with more pain than I knew how to handle. I opted for the 2-for-1 combo package of rage and denial to get me through the worst of it. I’d be a liar if I said that whole gig didn’t last long. To give you an idea, I had a  grocery sack full of Christmas presents sitting in the back of the closet for FIVE YEARS.

Maybe you’re a quicker learner than me. I sure hope so.

Today’s Tarot is the inverted Page of Wands (Earth in Fire) and the inverted Five of Cups (Mars in Scorpio). Sometimes, it’s easy enough to immerse yourself in a frenzy of activity and distraction to avoid feeling the pain of losses. Don’t. I’m not saying don’t give yourself occasional breaks from despair. I’m saying don’t bury it under a huge to-do list. The longer you refuse to look, the more control it has taken unconsciously.

Sometimes, you’ve just got to cry your tears before you can take note of  the cups are still standing. Accept where your at and meet it with whatever faith you can muster there is a higher vision, even if you can’t see it. Otherwise, refusing to see is going to bury (Scorpio) that battle (Mars). That’s when pain begins to drive your life without you noticing, and that’s not where we want to be.

Instead, why not work through (Mars) the darkness (Scorpio)? If you voice your anger (Mars) and mourn what’s dead (Scorpio), you’re discharging the energy. Feeling it all is no fun I’ll grant you, but it’s a whole lot easier than keeping it under wraps. Then, life becomes much easier to build, with a clearer understanding, a solid foundation and all your faculties intact. You’ve got the energy to walk your own path, no longer need it for obscuring the hurt. It just becomes part of your larger understanding. And if you’re lucky, maybe you can use that insight someday to help others. I sure hope so.

How do you handle pain? Face, bury, or somewhere in between?

Angels alone that soar above, Enjoy such liberty.” –Richard Lovelace

tarot-forecast

Today’s Tarot forecast is the Playfulness (Page of Wands) and Trust (Knight of Cups). Playfulness and trust are a potent combination for creativity! Risk being misunderstood, considered silly, making mistakes or not controlling the outcome, and you allow yourself space and creative options.

If your actions are joyful, saturated and love and fun, you know you’re firmly in the flow. That’s your compass, so you can trust your path. This is what makes the leap of faith warranted. And that’s exactly how you soar.

Do you find these principles true?
