Choosing to Move On: Weekly Tarot Flow, May 25 – 31

Man. Sometimes when I do a forecast like last week’s, where the cards end up matching my own experiences so closely, I wonder if I’m missing out for you guys and inadvertently reading for myself! I am thinking, maybe I’m just riding the same wave as everybody else. I don’t know, but the cards last week? Pretty much spot on for me.

Literal Tarot is literal.

And Mercury Retrograde continues to amaze and astound me, with some stunning deja vu. I feel very good about the fact that I learned plenty the first time around and didn’t need to waffle indecisively on how to play the reruns. It’s reassuring, those kinds of reminders. It feels good to not only see, but feel actual progress. You, too?

This week’s layout reminds me of recovering from an illness or emotional hit. The week starts out on a upnote but about midweek, there’s some processing to be done. We do end up on solid ground, though, with Sunday’s Queen of Pentacles. Also notable is that four of the eight draws, literally half the cards I pulled, are court cards. That suggests personalities, perhaps of the “larger than life” variety, will play a relevant role in the week’s progress.

I would not be surprised if you are presented a clear option, midweek, of DEALING with a difficult situation versus taking a little dip in the river of denial. I won’t give you my advice because you probably already know it. But if choose to process, expect to be back on your feet by the time you’re wrapping up the weekend. Fair enough?

merc rx forecasts 004 (1024x683)

Monday, Nine of Cups: Again with the Nine-of-Cups-Monday! Not that I’m complaining, mind you.  Expect a gift, wish to be granted or lovely surprise today. It could be tangible, or not so much, like gifts arriving in the form of kind words and appreciation. Whatever you get, be glad for it and bask a little in the gratitude. Gratitude basking is one of my favorite sports.

Happy Memorial Day!

Tuesday, King of Swords: Catch up on what needs to be accomplished. Make phone calls, pay pills, fill out paperwork, take notes, research options. This is an excellent day for cutting through red tape and taking care of business. It will go as smoothly as it’s going to, during a Mercury Rx. Besides as we all know, you cannot stop living your life based on Mercury’s antics. Life remains open for business, so take care of it!

Wednesday, Two of Wands: Choices to be made today. You can hold your own, whatever you choose so don’t let self-doubt be the deciding factor.  You definitely have got this, so make the right choice for you.

Thursday, Ten of Swords reversed: On the comeback from overwhelm, or sense of great hurt and betrayal. You may well be feeling some sting, but seeing this card reversed is a good thing. It means those swords are coming out and healing is underway. Don’t try to force anything. Just let it happen.

Friday, The Moon: A dreamy, escapist quality to the day. Very little focus. More recuperation time. Drinks, naps, tunes and movie binges will all fit the mood d’jour.

Saturday, Queen of Cups Reversed: Keep those emotions in check, lest they leak all over the floor. Moodiness and sentimentality quite likely. If you spend the day with others, pick people you trust if at all possible. Love is very healing.

Sunday, Queen of Pentacles: Doesn’t the world look so much better after a good night’s sleep? It’s all that’s standing between the reversed Queen of Cups meltdown and the upright Queen of Pentacles, happy Earth mother. Eat! Better yet, feed somebody. Be kind to your body and stimulate your mind. Physical activity is a great outlet today, as is time outside. Think picnic,  meditation, nature walk or even coffee on the porch.

Overview/Advice: Sacrifice, Page of Wands: You cannot have everything your way! Change what you can–or what is your business to change–and let go of the rest. Trusting others to be competent is an act of faith, a way to show respect. Don’t drive your point home too hard. Put it out there and walk away. Mind your business, and let the rest take care of itself.

Affirmation: I am willing to let go. As sparks of spirit in a physical body, we have a finite amount of energy to budget throughout our lives Spending it in fear of the future or fuming over the past is not a particularly good expenditure. It limits your true point of power: the infinite now. Forgiveness isn’t a gift you give to others. It’s a way to improve your own life, right now. Living with a loving heart, bearing no ill will, and just getting on with your life best you can is SO much more peaceful than any other option. Let go, let go, let go. Love yourself enough to let go of the hard stuff. Let any pain and unpleasantness flow through you, and love that too. As you accept it, you can release it.

How are y’all doing out there? Are you choosing to move on?

Sorting: Weekly Forecast, Apr 20 – 26

Tarot ForecastLast week, we were cleaning out closets. This week? It’s sorting through the ensuing mess.

You know how it is. The mess gets bigger before it gets smaller.

When you clean your closet, you take the time to notice what’s what’s really buried in there, and examine each piece of clothing. And for each one you decide, “Is this something I want to keep in my life? Does it fit in with the rest of my wardrobe?”

This week, we’re sorting through “life accessories” – the attitudes, the people, the situations, behaviors and beliefs we’ve long owned. To be successful, you’re going to need to be honest, both with others but firstly, especially, with yourself. Because if you try to pull something over on yourself this week, it’s basically 50/50 you’ll be called out and have to face the truth with an audience. Eeek!

Lots of court cards showed up, which tells me people and their personalities are central to the week’s shuffle. Even many of the topical cards are strongly associated with relationships and groups. So the folks that put out the extra effort to play nice with others will have a distinct advantage the coming week.

Monday, Power – King of Wands: This looks like a solid, on-top-of-it kind of day. I’d say, use any powered-up feeling to it’s best advantage and move, step by step, to take care of business.

Tuesday, Disruption – The Empress Reversed: Beware put-on, exaggerated or phoney caretaking gestures. Overly-parental behavior, out of it’s appropriate context, is disruptive. The “it’s all for you” ruse will be transparent today. So don’t try it yourself!

Wednesday, Partnerships & Alliances (Sacral Chakra)- Temperance Reversed: It’s fine to get together with friends or discuss business over dinner or drinks. Enjoy yourself, but within moderation no matter what you’re indulging in. Okay?

Thursday, Heartache and Loss – Page of Swords Reversed: Bluntness can be hurtful and lead to actual loss or breakups if not kept in check.

Friday, Spiritual Strength – Queen of Pentacles, Reversed: Make sure you take care of yourself. This looks like running on fumes.

Saturday, The Waiting Game –Ten of Pentacles: Gradually work toward that whole package, okay? Cultivate the family relationships (and situations) that you want. Above all, APPRECIATE the family blessings you already have! Gratitude pays dividends. This can be impatience to reach a destination, sure…but with the proper framing, it can just as easily be contentment with a pleasant form of the journey.

Sunday, Trapped in Fear (Crown Chakra) – Ten of Swords: Too much incoming stimulation! This would be a great time to ground, disconnect from highly emotive people or situations, and shut down right now.

Overview/Advice – Page of Wands Reversed: Mind your tongue and don’t overstate or exaggerate yourself because this week? It’s like broadcasting it. Restraint can be your keyword.

Affirmation, Clear your Space – Archangel Jophiel: “Get rid of clutter, clear the energy around you and use feng shui.” Those life accessories that don’t match your soul any more? Trash ’em. You don’t need it.

Are you “sorting” now?

Over Budget: Weekly Flow Tarot, March 16 – 22

As I write this week’s column, I’m thinking of (or maybe avoiding) looking up the metaphysical cause of allergies. My eyes are a little swollen, but I’ve put off the allergy meds for a bit because I wanted to finish writing without feeling drunk.

Somehow, that seems to fit this forecast. Blind or drunk, take your pick. Either way, my energy is over budget. :)

Look for a week in which there is an active supportive cast: we’ve got 4 court cards showing up. And it will be especially important to pay attention to your health in everyday ways, because there’s a real potential for getting run down and strung out if you don’t stay on top of it. That having been said, if you can balance out the stress with some recreation, it will help a lot.

Monday, Relationship –  Reversed Knight of Pentacles: May be a tendency to nitpick or criticize. Which, you can totally control this! Especially if you know. Don’t take it personally if it feels like someone is picking on you, and don’t unnecessarily pick on someone else. Use your powers of discrimination for good, not evil!

Tuesday, Coworkers –  Page of Cups: Aw, that’s nice! Looks like the people you team up with for tasks are supportive and helpful. There’s comfort in working together, so take any opportunities that crop up to connect with others on a project. There’s a general sense of emotional understanding in business contacts today.

Wednesday, Disappointment –  King of Pentacles: Gosh, that version of the King of Pentacles looks kinda lazy, doesn’t he? One of the downsides of this King is that he can get overly caught up in creature comforts, and sometimes miss the trees and the forest both! The disappointment here has the possibility of being related to laziness or self-involvement. I don’t know whose, but maybe you do!

Thursday, Partner –  The Emperor reversed: I totally would avoid handing out orders and edicts today. Do you really want to see if they are followed? Look more for cooperative approaches and try to reach consensus with your spouse, loved one or partner in crime for the best result today.

Friday, Clarification –  Reversed Ten of Wands: Have you (or someone around you) been running on overwhelm? Who has been trying to carry way too much? This explains the earlier part of the week in my mind. Over booking and never saying “no” catches up eventually. Today may well be “eventually.”

Saturday, Health –  Ten of Swords: Ow! Not what I’d prefer to see in the “Health” position. Okay, well, anywhere. But this is a logical follow up to yesterday. We are also in the Tarot tens, which means we’re at the end of this run. So take some encouragement from that. Rest and rejuvenate if you can. Acknowledge if you’re feeling run down and worn out. We’re talking either physically or emotionally as well. Take some vitamins and turn in early if that’s an option. Don’t push too hard.

Sunday, Negative Influences –  Two of Swords reversed: The problem is, the decision has not been made. Are you trying to hedge your bets, perhaps? Commit and commence. If it doesn’t work out, you’ll recover but at least you won’t regret missed opportunities and wasted time. Realize the hem-hawing, noncommittal approach has costs.

Overview/Advice –  Reversed Queen of Pentacles: Don’t invite the whole neighborhood to dinner. Just invite the people you really like—and the ones who actually “feed” you, too. This is the approach I’d suggest all week. Commit firmly, but not indiscriminately. You know? Calculate the costs before saying “yes” and you’ll be better able to avoid over-budgeting.

Affirmation: Play. Ah, what an lovely affirmation! There is plenty of work and responsibility showing up for this week, with worries and careful management required to navigate. So the perfect response to that is balancing out the week with some fun. You don’t need me to tell you twice, right?

Whiff of Drama? Run. Weekly Tarot Flow, Aug. 18 – 24

Tarot Forecast Aug 18 - 24

Noticeable in this weekly forecast is the number of Major Arcana (5 of 8 drawn) and the business with the court (the remaining 3 of 8). Taken together, I’m expecting the flow of the week to be important and very much person–or personality quirk–driven. I’m expecting interpersonal interactions to be heavy-hitting this week, folks. I’m thinking drama in the air, although without a doubt, how much it impacts you IS in your hands.

Monday, What is Hidden – Moon reversed: A reversed moon hints at hidden dysfunction, secret madness or self-delusion. IThe Moon is not an easy-to-grasp energy anyway, let alone in the position of “what’s hidden.” Bluntly put, what’s not being seen today is the “crazy.” If someone doesn’t make sense today, don’t assume it’s you that’s “off.” On the other hand, if nobody seems to be understanding you…well, never mind. Har!

Tuesday, Attitudes and Thoughts –Queen of Pentacles: Attention is firmly upon practical matters and taking care of business. Especially in the position of “attitudes and thoughts,” this queen is very pragmatic. She wants to get the bills paid and the grocery shopping done. People are hungry and dinner must be served! She cannot be bothered with distraction that doesn’t serve any purpose. I’d suggest emulating her to accomplish the most today.

Wednesday, Crossing – King of Cups: While we were all busy getting practical tasks wrapped up yesterday, today the King of Cups shows up to FEEL. He is not so matter-of-fact as our Pentacles court and in fact may well get in the way of our to-do list as his energy is “crossing” us, bearing down. Some emotional or artistic expression should satisfy him well enough that your day isn’t overly disrupted. I recommend singing along to loud music when nobody is listening. Use your mood to pick the song.

Thursday, Surprise – Knight of Wands Reversed: Someone may have an entirely different idea of a joint project than you do. This strikes me as an unexpected admission, a message out of the blue or even a surprise departure from a job or  joint project.

Friday, Hopes and Fears – Chariot: We want to reach the finish line, but are afraid we may not have what it takes. Man, do I know this feeling! Keep focusing, keep making progress, however humble or indirect, and you’ll be able to bring it home. Honest, this is a helpful energy. But it’s watery, emotional energy, ruled by Cancer. You really have to be able to ride the waves to effectively work the Chariot.

Saturday, Friendship – The Star reversed: The first time I tried to type the card name, I wrote “scar” instead of “Star” and it seems to me, a reversed Star in the position of “friendship” could well be an emotional scar. However, even inverted the Star is a hopeful, future-looking card. Give friends space and be gentle with their feelings. We all could use that sometimes.

Sunday, Hobbies and Talents – Judgment: I want to tell you to take some pride in what you do with your free time. You don’t have to quit the day job, man, but stand back and give yourself credit for this energy you manipulate and the outcomes create, just because you want to.

Overview/Advice – The Devil: In a weekly overview, the Devil gives a feeling of inevitability, lacking options. He’s not a welcome sight! However, like most energy associated with the Devil, this lack of option is actually an illusion, a slight-of-hand that requires participants suspend disbelief. Anytime you feel trapped or without choice this week, ask yourself if it’s truly the case, or if the feeling comes from not wanting to give up your “fix,” whatever your fix is. You know what I mean? You can say, “I just cannot lose weight,” but maybe the truth is you cannot lose weight if you don’t change habits you really don’t want to change. You can say, “I don’t have enough money, “ but maybe you would have enough money if you budgeted differently. That’s fine, it’s still up to you, but it’s not the same thing. The idea here is to differentiate between options that are honestly inaccessible versus options that are incompatible with emotional attachments. You dig?

Affirmation: I am beautiful and everybody loves me. This one just makes me laugh! I do believe I’m beautiful but I know for a fact not everybody loves me! Maybe I can take it seriously if I change it to, “I’m beautiful and everybody who counts loves me.” Not discounting the people who don’t, except you know what? Kind of am, because I don’t give them a vote!

The challenge with a week like this is keeping your footing, not getting sucked into vicious circles and the link. I am expecting a few twists and turns, but if you stay oriented in the practical, give yourself options for blowing of steam, and emphasize treating your tribe with kindness and respect, you should be not too much the worse for wear by the end of the week. With that affirmation in particular, keeping the ol’ self-esteem intact and remembering that you ARE loved should make things easier when you have a “moment.” Here’s hoping you don’t have many of those.

How’s your week looking?

Family Ties: Weekly Flow Tarot, Jun 30–Jul 4

Tarot Forecast Jun 30 - Jul 4

Looking at this weekly spread, we have an interesting, alternating mix of Pentacles and Cups. It’s coming across as sort of do, feel, do, feel, do, feel. Plenty of opportunities for emotional processing. Most cards are upright, which brings a little extra attention to those that are not.

The Sun in Cancer shines brightly on familial sensibilities: what we do for one another, what we’ve learned from those closest to us, and what all these back-and-forth feelings mean will be highlighted this week. This is not terribly surprising with a week ending in a holiday in the states. Just make sure the fireworks are in the sky and not over dinner!

In other news, I am SO ready for Mercury to go direct (July 1st)! Although it continues to be in a shadow period for another week-ish, I have already begun to feel the retrograde vibes lightening up. Although I have not figured out what is making my phone calls go straight to voicemail yet.

Monday, Past – Nine of Pentacles: You’ve learned a lot getting to this point in your life, so acknowledge it! More importantly, put it to good use. This is an excellent time to take stock of the skills you’ve gained gradually but failed to account for in your self-image, you know? All that “little bit here, little bit there” adds up without us always becoming conscious of the fact. In the context of the entire weekly forecast, I’d say put special emphasis on what you have learned due family connections especially.

Tuesday, Answer – Knight of Cups: Answers are available, if you listen to your inner vibes. You know in your heart, you feel it in your gut. These are the pathways for answers today. he downside to all that tuning in? It can make a person a little punch drunk and oversensitive. Don’t forget to turn off the flow intentionally when you’re done plugging in, and ground, baby, ground!

Wednesday, Lesson – Ten of Pentacles: Today’s lesson is all about the value of the people you love. Whether your family was built by birth or by choice, they are a treasure. Spend a little time appreciating the people you feel most at home with (and treasured by). Keep track of family in terms of true value, not something to take for granted. Act in accordance with family values—your own family values. What does being part of a family mean to you? Where is the value to you? If you find yourself lacking on this front, look to begin creating it or build on what you have so far.

Thursday, What is Hidden, Queen of Pentacles Rx: The personal costs of always showing up, carrying whatever water needs to be carried day in and day out, are not readily apparent. This queen could represent you, or it might be someone else. Either way, be sensitive to the invisible price of caretaking. Give a little extra love to any caretakers you know. Even if that is you!

Friday, Clarification, King of Cups: The ups and downs of daily life become not only more bearable, but take on a function of generating closeness when we live in our heart. Generosity, compassion, and kindness heal tremendously, even if they cannot make everything “easy.” These are all lessons we learn in Earth school, you know?

Overview, Knight of Pentacles Rx: Beware nitpicking and unnecessary criticism. As always, this includes self-criticism especially. I suspect for many of us, a generally critical attitude starts with a look in the mirror and gets slopped outward via projection to avoid some of the pain. By seeing faults in others, our own seem lesser. That’s an unfortunate optical illusion.

Affirmation: Behind my every desire is my desire to feel good. At times, we get caught up in the details of some personal story. Who is right, who is wrong, who is good, and who is evil. It’s very human. We may worry about what we deserve or resent what we do not. But how does this help? Focus on yourself, what you can do that’s right, that’s good, that’s helpful and kind. If you keep your heart full and your focus on living a loving, uplifting life, you’ll find the nature of personal desire changes. You’ll feel better! You’ll also find yourself developing a magnetic quality that attracts more of your desires. It’s a win-win.

01/03/14: Little Steps & Many Moons / Patience

Queen Pentacles“Patience” here is another word for this Queen of Pentacles. See the moon cycling above her head? She’s way preggers. But this takes time. Nobody is growing a baby or a garden overnight…

Here at the beginning of the New Year (and right after a New Moon in Capricorn), I’m thinking a lot of people have their intentions for the coming year in mind. I know I do! With this Queen’s appearance, I’d add the word “patience” to your action plan. Don’t expect overnight miracles. Understand the natural cycle of life, the ebb and flow of planting and growth.

So often, we focus on the end result and may feel inadequate, frustrated or otherwise let down because we haven’t achieved it already or it seems so far off. If we can learn to celebrate the cycle itself and plug into the joy of becoming with each intention, the entire process turns into a magical metamorphosis instead of a angst-filled “hurry up and wait” exercise.

The other thing I’m reminded of looking at this lovely queen: her maternal nature arrives well before the baby. It’s not the birth of the child that turns her into a mother like a switch being flipped. It’s the transformation she makes throughout the process that creates her status as mother. It’s not a “being” thing so much as it’s a “becoming through doing” thing.

The benefit is that she gets time to adjust. Her transition is smoother because she can attune to her changing status in the process.

Putting this into ideas you can use today:

  • Think of changes as process, not events. Celebrate the flow of becoming, realizing it’s no less valuable than the end result of being. It’s what makes the being part possible.
  • Notice and acknowledge small changes. Those small changes add up to create the big changes!
  • Little steps are enough. Little steps matter. The trick is, you just keep making them!
  • Expect big changes to take many moons. If you go in with that mindset, the small delays are not disruptive.

Every single major shift I’ve ever made has required this type of approach. At certain points, there is more dramatic progress that shows, but getting there is almost always a combination of little steps and many moons.

Do you see your intentions manifesting over “many moons”?
