Six of Swords Reversed: Who’s to Blame?

There are plenty of difficult obstacles in your path. Don’t allow yourself to become one of them. –Ralph Marston

I’d even go so far as to say, you present yourself the only possible obstacle. All roads lead home.

Six of Swords Reversed: Who's to Blame? 1

The Six of Swords speaks to making a transition–sometimes after a long, stressful cycle. Reversed, the transition isn’t necessarily direct or smooth. I’m seeing this as lacking consistency, not being grounded or steady in the process of a transition. Emotional flux in the process. With this card reversed, you’re falling in the (emotional) waters!

Eclipse season, folks. To be expected so don’t sweat it if you’re finding yourself a little waterlogged lately.

Not that you cannot get there–from overwhelmed to steady–and usually it’s pretty easy, for that matter. Provided you’ve decided to find your center and you keep reaching for that center to the exclusion of all else.

[bctt tweet=”Prioritize personal balance to the exclusion to all else. Through it, all else is possible. ” via=”no”]

The more you practice reaching for steady and centered, the easier it is to regain your footing when you slip, as you will again and again and again. Because that’s the nature of centering. Much like steering on the car, or tacking on a boat, you’ll spend more time correcting course than on course. This is how we move. And as you practice with little things, the bigger things fall into line more naturally, because grounded and centered become your default state.

So often, we congratulate ourselves when things go smoothly and fuss at ourselves when they don’t. We are happy when life shows us what we want, and upset with ourselves (because we “should have known better”) when what we want is not yet there. What would it be like, if we decided to love and accept ourselves NO MATTER WHAT? What would that look like? What if we were to recognize the perfection in every moment–not because we are eternally satisfied with our now, but because we understand we’ll always be reaching for more and the only way to acheive more is by making peace with here?

We are in transition. How do I know? Not because of the sky or my vibe-reading skills, mad though they may be. Because we always are! Transition is a constant state–a side effect of being alive. Stasis is an illusion: it’s merely the act of recreating the same thing, over and over. Can’t stand still, no matter how hard you try. But you can tread water, in place.

When you can look at your situation and no longer blame others, you’ve made progress moving forward. When you no longer blame yourself, you’ve made more progress. When you no longer look at whatever you’ve got without need to blame or explain or justify or condemn it? When you can just BE, and appreciate what every situation has given you and love yourself, knowing you’ve done the best you can as you’ve gotten to wherever you are? That! That is when you open the path for real shifts.

As long as you explain, justify, and wallow? You’re recreating the circumstance in your experience. You’re living it through your attention to it. Over and over and over again. And it doesn’t help anything or anybody. Not to mention, it feels awful. So why do it?

Every step you’ve taken up to this point is part of who you are. Every step you will take is part of who you’re becoming. And there is no way to get that wrong. It’s a constant refining and adjusting and deciding. Because this is the process of being in this physical world.

Each of us lives in the Six of Swords, more or less. It’s the human condition. We just get to decide if we are jumping out of the boat and flailing around in place, or enjoying the ride.

This week’s thoughts featurethe Gilded Tarot and you know you can give Dix a holler for a personal consult, right?

Harder than it Needs to Be: Weekly Tarot, Mar 13 – 19, 2017

There was one trap I used to trip into, time and time and time again when back I did tech work. I’d research how to  do this or that, and look advice from all over for the PERFECT way to go about it. Without fail, the “perfect way” was always ridiculously demanding and difficult to accomplish without far more resources than I had readily available.

Perfection is also very subjective, no? We all have different needs and goals. So another person’s perfect solution would look different from mine. Becuase MY perfect solution takes into account what I can easily do versus what’s a huge struggle.

But I didn’t think like that. I’d still pine for “perfect” or at least “best possible” and try very hard to make that happen. It sounds good but most of the time, I didn’t have the [knowledge / skills / software / time/ help / pick one or more] required to effectively execute. So there were lots of things I ended up making WAY harder than they needed to be. “Good enough” might be readily within my grasp, but I wasn’t pleased when I knew better could be achieved and if I tried harder–much, much harder–maybe I could get there?

I cannot count the number of nights I was up way too late, sitting in front of a computer and cussing myself for committing to way more, way fancier, than necessary. I can’t say I’m entirely over that–too much Virgo in me, yo. But I notice it and have made a lot of progress (or I’d NEVER be able to produce videos for y’all).

When I took a look at this spread, the overriding message was loud and clear.

You’re making it harder than it needs to be.

If that’s as far as you read, you’ll have what you really need to know. Back up a bit and focus singularly on where you want to go, leaving the how out of it.

[bctt tweet=”Manage your own feelings and leave the rest of the world to manage theirs. #OnMyRadar” via=”no”]

But if you want more? Here are the bullet points, man.

Next week in Bullet Points

  • Monday, Six of Swords rx: Willpower alone will not get you there. There’s a requirement: letting Universal forces work instead of plowing ahead doggedly in the only direction you think will work. It won’t be the path expected and it absolutely cannot be forced. Yielding will get you where determination will not go.
  • Tuesday, Six of Pentacles rx: With Venus retrograde, make sure how you distribute resources reflect current values and not old news. Review and realign based on what’s valuable to you NOW.
  • Wednesday, Two of Swords rx: You cannot make other people’s decisions and if you try too hard to push ’em? Prescription for disaster.
  • Thursday, Page of Swords rx: Mixed messages. Be wary of (yourself or others) saying one thing but in actuality, meaning another. Don’t say what you think they wanna hear. Just lay down tracks of unadorned truth, but sprinkle some kindness on top if you can. It’s a smidge edgey.
  • Friday, Seven of Swords rx: Something that you think nobody is watching? Watched. Always behave in a way in private that you’d be comfortable with becoming public, if ever it did.
  • Saturday, Temperance rx. Don’t overdo the drinks! Tendency to over-indulge or act without sufficient restraint. DESIGNATED DRIVER! No unnecessary risks.
  • Sunday, Nine of Pentacles rx: Tendency toward rawness, coarseness, maybe not intentional but there are still sharp edges on interactions. Presentation is not refined. Focus on the message and not the frilly edges and realize your own words may have the same rough, ragged edges to listeners.
  • Overview/Advice: Eight of Swords. You can do what you’re ready to do when you’re ready to do it. All those external factors making it harder? Let ’em go, emotionally. Forget justifications. Just shift your focus from fears to desires to let the path open up for you. Faith, my friends, is your savior here.

Just focus on where you want to go, and don’t try to micromanage the rest of the world. It’s the scripting that is throwing people off. “If I say this, he will say that and she will do this…” That kinda stuff. I would expect that approach to backfire like an old clunker next week. On the other hand, eyes on your own lane and you’ll make it through the week with flying colors.

Do you often make things harder than they need to be?

See what you can do about that, if you do. And be well!

Now, Now, Now. Unconditionally. Tarot, Sept 12 – 18

Lately, I’ve been looking to be a lot less “conditional.”

We use the word “unconditional” often without really thinking about what it means. It’s because a little automatic–so I’ve been looking to reconnect with the concept.

“Unconditional: not subject to any conditions. Wholehearted, unqualified, unreserved, unlimited, unrestricted,unmitigated, unquestioning;
complete, total, entire, full,absolute, out-and-out, unequivocal.” – Google’s definition

Unconditional happiness. Unconditional love. Unconditional appreciation.

Do you see the freedom in that? Can you get a whiff of it?

I can love everything and everyone! Whether they are nice to me or others or not. I can appreciate the good without condemning what I see as flawed. I can find things to appreciate no matter what the circumstances of my life or anything else.

The bonus bit is that finding your way to an unconditional state of joy and anticipation and appreciation actually puts you into the “sweet spot” for manifesting more pleasing conditions. It moves your personal vibration to match the conditions you like. As long as you don’t stop to take score every two minutes (and match your vibration to “not there yet, not there yet, where is it, not there yet), just revel and roll in the unconditional feelings, you’re on your way!

With the forecast for the coming week, I’d say it’s a great time to practice being less conditional. The week will flow a whole lot smoother and you’re fare better than people who are looking out their windows before deciding how they feel about the energetic weather. Set the tone yourself deliberately, and let life follow your lead.

20160908_181320_hdr

This week has a slow motion feel to me, kind of like moving through a heavy mist. Emotions are prominent, so take care of yours by being kind to yourself. Much easier to sidestep outbursts that way–hopefully not your own! (Also? Big emotion doesn’t equal “bad week” to me. It does, however, point to a powerful week. Aim your emotions at what you want instead of what you don’t and let this give your desires a boost towards realization.)

I’d strongly advise you to stay in the present and look for what feels good right NOW. And now, and now and now. Not so much attention wandering off into the future or back into the past. I’m seeing someone hiking up a rocky path, looking down frequently to be sure of their footing. If they were trying to monitor other hikers, see how it wouldn’t be as helpful? Walk your own path. Don’t worry about anybody else’s path. Just yours.

Monday, Six of Swords Rx: You’re moving, even though it’s pretty slow and not completely the direction you’d prefer. Acknowledge the progress, will you? It helps. Even if the progress doesn’t feel directly forward, it is moving and that’s better than stagnation. Line up your energy with where you want to go.

Tuesday, Six of Pentacles Rx: Tendency to assume the worst, about the self or others. Don’t fall for it! It feels a whole lot better to assume the best and it helps you stay on track.

Wednesday, Death:  Not an easy day. Sorry! Death usually speaks to very deep change, where the rotted and broken get rooted out. But it’s often an uncomfortable process. There’s a lot of power in it and it has it’s place in the life cycle. However, may not be your favorite.

Thursday, Seven of Cups: Not all is necessarily how it appears on the surface. Time will flesh out the details (read: accurate details) so just take it slow and easy, slow and easy.

Friday, Ten of Cups Rx: You can see the same scene, looking at what bothers you or looking at what fills your heart. Totally different experiences, right there. You probably know where my vote is so just remember, today it’s your vote that counts. Happy eclipse (she says unironically)!

Saturday, Strength Rx: Give it a rest, whatever “it” is. Take the day off from fussing.

Sunday, Eight of Swords: All the limitations are self-imposed. Of course, they always are but they often don’t feel that way.

Overview/Advice: Chariot Rx: Continue to take a light touch and indirect route, of that’s the path of least resistance. Not a week to push, push, push. There’s enough of that going on already! Good time to stay in your own lane, too. Lots of backseat drivers on the road and that’s not helping. Stay aware of your goals, yes, but don’t try to force anything.

Affirmation: Words do not teach. Life experience teaches. Obviously, we cannot talk anyone else into doing what we find right. Hell, we don’t know that for anybody else, anyway. Each of us has one and only one path we have rights to navigate, thank you very much. Look at others in their strength, their connection, and see their ability. You can hold that vision in your heart, solid when the others are not feeling it as much. And you can live your own life, never beating up on yourself for what you didn’t know then or “should have” understood or figured out or whatever. We are where we are where we are and it’s the perfect place for us to be. It has to be perfect, because it is where we are.

Be in the now and be kind there–to others, yes, but first to yourself. That is what makes radiating that kindness outward possible.

[bctt tweet=”Kindness to self makes for kindness to the world. #OnMyRadar” via=”no”]

Are you being kind to you?

Easy Does It: Tarot Forecast, Sept 5 – 11, 2016

I’ve been nurturing a new practice of late, looking to lift my personal vibration. Tuning and turning up my connection, you know? Becoming more sure-footed in knowing and consciously, deliberately guiding my emotional state rather than leaving it up to the whims of whatever conditions I’m observing. Fostering a less conditional, more internal brand of happy. Intentionally setting my tone and looking for confirmation of it. As you expect and look for confirmation, it turns it up.

If you do this for a while, you’ll notice things. You’ll begin to see the output of your vibration in what shows up in your life and how smoothly things work out. Not everything shows up in the form you’d want–but “problems” become far less problematic and more just part of the road. Less emergency, more Universa- GPS reroute. More faith and more knowing, it IS all alright, always.

We’re all always on the path but sometimes? The Universe provides us a shortcut through some muck. But it doesn’t mean we’re not still traveling.

Hold in your mind the image of a feather, slowly drifting to and fro from the sky. The feather floats this way and that, based on how the breeze is blowing. If you want that feather, you can either watch and lightly wait for it to land. Or you can try to chase it down coming in like gangbusters–the faster you run and grasp, the more likely all that motion is going to cause that feather to float the other way and maybe elude you.

EASY does it. Watch the feathers come down softly and then go over and pick it right up. That’s how you handle this week.

20160904_122945_HDR

As you might expect in eclipse season during a Mercury retrograde period, there’s a clear sense here of rethinking and reviewing a whole lot. I’d advise a slower pace this week, building in plenty of time to recoup and relax into the flow. This will net much better results than acting out frustrated impulses.

[bctt tweet=”Take action in the EMOTIONAL state you want to carry through outcome #LOA #OnMyRadar” via=”no”]

Monday, Two of Swords: Take your time as you move forward today, and don’t speak or act on a decision until you have a clear, emotional indication of which route to go. Meaning, make the choice that gives you the most positive emotion as you’re mulling it over. The energy you bring into the decision will carry through to the results.

Tuesday, Six of Pentacles: This is a great time for generosity–even (especially) the kind that doesn’t require you cracking open your wallet. Give freely of good intention, benefits of the doubt for all, assuming the best, and taking nothing but love “personally.” This advice works best when applied from the inside first, going out. Start in the mirror and then share, share, share the good will.

Wednesday, Six of Swords: Possibly tired and a bit worn down, we’re still getting where we’ve intended to go.  You job is to just keep doing what you’re doing and take good care of yourself in the process. Anything that makes you laugh is particularly potent medicine right now.

Thursday, Justice Rx: Be aware the inclination to get all wrapped up in what’s “fair” and “right” and “should be” today. Honestly? It may cross your brain more than once, but pretty much nobody sports righteous indignation gracefully. It’s just not that graceful and it usually feels pretty crummy. Don’t look to re-calibrate the world and try to force others to fit into your idea of balanced and rightness. Recalibrate yourself, get your own bearings and stay solidly rooted in your own energy. The balance needed is within, always.

Friday, Eight of Cups: In this, some may see sadness or not caring anymore. Me? I see freedom, big and bold freedom. There’s been an undercurrent of bother this week about how the rest of the world is not doing as it “should” and therefore, it somehow falls upon our shoulders to set the world straight. That’s a futile and ugly endeavor if ever I saw it. A sweet release of all this baggage makes it so much easier to just BE who you want to be without bothering about whether the rest of the world is who you want them to be. You know? With that approach, you can continue on your own journey unimpeded by baggage that is not of your packing.

Saturday, Ace of Swords Rx: Less thinking, more feeling. Less talking, more listening. Less planning, more adapting. FEEL your way through today.

Sunday, High Priestess: Make sure you give yourself a chance to plug in and feel good! Imagination and visualizations are especially powerful right now. Get yourself in a good-feeling place and play with ideas of what you’d like to manifest in your life. Then allow inspirations to come as they will over the next few days. Quiet downtime, nature breaks and naps are all potential sources of wonderful inspiration.

Overview/Advice, Page of Pentacles Rx, Strength: Strength popped out of the deck before I started to throw cards, so I added her as a modifier to the advice section. This is a perfect combination for Mercury retrograde, when plans and communications tend to go a bit wonky. Gentle, persistent patience is what’s required this week! A light touch, but coming back to double check all that’s important to you. Understand you may have to do and redo a little here and there, so expect it and remain calm throughout. That will get you there.

20160904_123044_HDRAffirmation: I can create my world as I choose. I know, I know. “Why would I create this?” That’s what some would ask.

No matter what your situation, how you look at it–how you think about it and hence, how you come to feel about it–completely determines the emotional tone of the experience. If a thousand people share an experience of the same event, there will be a thousand and two different experiences of that event. (A couple are gonna be wafflers, man.) Your emotional experiences are INTERNAL, not asserted upon you from the outside world. And that is how you begin to create your world as you choose it. Funny thing about that, though. As you line up the energy to experience what you’ve got in the best, most optimistic way that you can? The external circumstances begin to line up to match.

How you doing out there?

Muddling through the Here and Now: Weekly Tarot, Feb 22 – Feb 28

“If I’d known before I started, how hard this was going to be…”

When I’ve undertaken projects that are a big reach for me, a real stretch, I often find myself somewhere along the way, saying this very thing to myself.

But really? It doesn’t matter. Maybe I’m overly optimistic when I start out. Maybe I only expect the good and friendly developments along the way. And of course, doesn’t always work that way. But still, so worth it.

“Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality.” –Nikos Kazantzakis

Coming up: I’m expecting a little changing of the landscape, and a little changing of perspective. Multitask, my friends!

20160213_171810_HDR

This week, plenty of Swords and just a couple Major Arcana. Thus,we’re looking at conflict (particularly mental), but the bits that have the most lasting impact lie within the Majors: being responsible, with integrity, and mastering lessons (the World)–and doing what you can to be happy and feed your soul, your true nature (the Sun). If you let just those two thoughts guide you, it’s true you may still be uncomfortable. Probably! There may be bruises and scrapes. Probably.

But you’ll get what you need out of the week to come by staying in the now and doing the best you can with that. And isn’t that what we’re trying to do here?

Monday, Four of Pentacles reversed: Keep moving! Keep moving. It’s not a crisis at this point, but you’re not done yet.

Tuesday, The World: Responsible decisions pay off. Also? Feels kinda good to be the badass grownup, you know? Enjoy your progress, as you’ve earned it.

Wednesday, Six of Swords: Change is hard won. But the work? It pays off, so much. So much! Keep going. Can you feel me cheering you on?

Thursday, Nine of Swords: Anxiety, guilt and frustration are a thing. Sorry! This feeling is often connected to living in the past or the future. Reorient to where you are now.

[bctt tweet=”One foot in front of the other makes even a daunting journey possible. “]

Friday, Eight of Cups: I’m hearing that song from Frozen. “Let it go, let it go…” Whether or not you’re bothered by the cold, it’s a day to release. That’s hard sometimes, but it’s okay. It’s a lot lighter when you leave what’s weighing you down behind. And often, a big relief.

Saturday, Two of Swords reversed: Limited options. Move while you can, lest you lose the ability to decide. Make a call and commit.

Sunday, The Sun reversed: I’m hearing the Rolling Stones. “You can’t always get what you want. But if you try sometime, you just might find, you get what you need…” Realign your wants versus needs for clarity today. Needs, you’ll have access to. Wants? Depends on how flexible you are about it. You can drape yourself in dissatisfaction. Or you can look to be happy with what you can produce here. The second option is a lot more satisfying.

Overview/Advice: Queen of Swords: Prioritize, using logic, deadlines and practicality as guiding principles. No time for sentimentality. Doesn’t mean you’re cold. It means you’re being pragmatic and achievement-oriented this week. And that attitude takes you places.

Affirmation: The point of power is always in the present moment. Forget the “might-have-beens” when they’re “nots.” What good does that do anyone? Forget the “could maybe be’s” when they are also “nots.” Those are trickier, but the rub is they get in the way of the IS. Your energy, your attention, your choices give you power and all those are rooted quite firmly in the now. This day, this hour, this minute. Make choices for the now. Be clear, present and attentive to the now. That’s what gets you to the future, you know?

Walking through the now, firing on all cylinders. Muddling as much as you must. Because even a sideways muddle is still MOVING.

How are you with living in the moment?

This week features the Cosmic Tarot. Affirmation is from Lousie Hay’s Power Thought Cards. If you dig the forecasts, you’d probably dig a personal consult or my book, Everyday Tarot Archives.

Just Fix Yourself: Weekly Tarot Forecast, Dec 7 – 13

“You’re so brave, to have hair that color,” the old woman says to me, stopping me in the grocery store. “It’s bold!”

I smile big and thank her, the same way I always do when somebody calls me “brave” for having pink hair.

As if it wasn’t just hair. As if it would never grow back. As if pink hair color was poison or a dirty look from somebody’s grandpa would knock me over, dead.

“Do you think I could do that?” she asked, a little sheepishly.

“Well of course you could! With your gray, it would take great!”

“I’m seventy. Do you think it’s okay for a seventy-year-old to have pink hair?”

“Well, I’m going to when I’m seventy! I don’t see why not. You’re an adult! You can do what you want!”

A peculiarity of my life is being an outsider. It’s all over my astrology. It doesn’t matter what I do or how hard I try. One way or another, I’m not going to fit in.

So I don’t try.

It took me a while to get adjusted to the idea, but I’m comfortable enough with it now that I can embrace it. I do embrace it! I know how old I am–and it’s old enough to wear my hair however I damn well please.

It’s tremendously freeing, not to worry about what other people think. It can take some effort, sure.

Even more effort is required to stop trying to control what other people think, about you or anything else. But I think it’s the most difficult of all to overcome what YOU think about yourself…that’s why some of the “fixers” can get so far under your skin.

[bctt tweet=”The hardest perceptions to manage are self-perceptions. #fixyourself”]

Weekly Tarot Dec 7 2015

This week’s forecast looks like a description of a transition, potentially clouded by self-perceptions. Because we’re in entirely working in the minor arcana, I expect even the more challenging of these energies to be transient, not long lasting. I get the feeling of being tired, worn out, limping with weak knees but trying to walk up the last hill to get home.

And you know how it is, when you’re pushing to finish something difficult or unpleasant, how you go about it, both physically and psychologically, makes a huge difference in the overall experience?

Yeah. That.

Monday, Find Balance – Two of Pentacles: The message here is pretty self-explanatory. Look for balance, compromise, and dividing attention rationally. Understand you only have so much energy to go around and cannot always run in deficit. Prioritize and decide what’s “must do” and what’s “let go.”

Tuesday, Opportunity Beckons – Four of Cups: If you’re feeling discontented, you can make changes. Look to articulate what you actually want. Disquiet is an invitation to reevaluate. Compare what you are doing with what you’d like to be and then begin steps in the “like to be” direction.

Wednesday, Spread Your Wings – Two of Wands: You see the flow we’re in this week? It’s about identifying and adjusting, over and over. Those little bits of discontent are gifts! The allow you to see the dirt, the messes in your life you’d like to clean up.

Thursday, Healing Begins – Six of Swords: This is the transition we started earlier in the week. Periods of change and growth are without fail difficult. But they are generally worth it. Expect an easing.

Friday, Coming Together – Two of Cups: [Note – We had the same card, for the same day, last week.] And I’m going to give you the same advice I did then: choose love! Choose love, love, love. Twos are choices. Realize, loving and being together, or doing what another wants are very different. Sometimes the most loving thing to do is let go. But whether you hold on or let go, always do it with LOVE.

Saturday, Moving On – Eight of Cups and Sunday, Refusal to See – Two of Swords: Flare up! Growing pains, right here. Letting go and leaving something behind you, are you really looking at the whole picture? It’s like after a breakup, sometimes folks see ONLY the good from what they left, or ONLY the dark parts. Every situation will have some of both, although one may well outweigh the other, sometimes dramatically.  Just be gentle with yourself and let the progress you’ve fought for over the week integrate, okay? Naps are always appropriate!

Overview/Advice, Joy & Stability – Four of Wands: When one’s world feels in flux, certain things are very helpful. Routines are a great support. Surrounding oneself with positive messages and people help. Taking good care of the body and the mind go a long way to regain stability. You know what lifts you up versus what drags you further down. Care for yourself this week by continuing to lift yourself up.

Affirmation: I can change my life by changing my thoughts. I will not attempt to control others’ experiences. Because the two came out together. My thoughts, my life, and my experiences are the point here. Not who agrees or who doesn’t. Obviously, not everything goes all sunshine up just because you reach for a more positive perspective. Some parts of life hurt, some things suck, and there is some struggle inherent in the human condition. But that being said, how you view it can always make it better, easier, less painful, less struggle. And that, my friends, is very much worth the effort.

Also notice how both these thoughts go hand in hand? We own our own life path, not that of anyone else. This is kind of a big issue for me personally, because I’ve spent most of my life surrounded to some extent with people quite determined I’m horribly broken.

And you know? I’m okay with that. I need to be okay with that, with people who see me as broken, because I only own my personal percpetions.

What I’m not okay with is people insisting on “fixing” what they see as broken in me. That mission will get you booted from my world.

Don’t be that guy (or gal), that pushes for the fix for others. It’s not your life, not your right. Just fix yourself.

Do people try to “fix” you?
