Black Cats and the Supernatural

Jewels the Tarot Kitty

Jewels the Tarot Kitty assists.

One of my Tarot people asked me about Black cats and talking to Spirit...seems she has a new friend. Ha! :cat:

I was investigating her question, and ran into this fascinating blog from a medium who talks about why some spirits like to hang around cats. Er, uh…I got sidetracked for a few hours over there, so you’ve been forewarned.

Animals’ physical senses have greater range, more frequencies to detect energy shifts, and their brains are not full of ego or denials! They live immersed in emotional response and instinct. That’s how a dog can judge character or a cat living in a nursing home can predict death. Hence, animals would seem perfect channels for spirit connection.

Black cats especially have long been associated with the supernatural. They were sometimes honored and sometimes feared (or killed),  but frequently judged as especially connected. In some cultures, black cats were considered reincarnations of children who’d passed. In other times and places, just having a black cat would have been enough to get a person executed for witchcraft.

Regardless of how it started (and truth is an option), such a long association may tend to build a type of affinity between black cats and spirit world, a predisposition energetically shaped via expectation and belief  spanning centuries.

And of course, black is associated with night, mystery, and the unknown. That’s where the human world and the spirit world meet, y’know. In ancient Celtic legend, cats were guardians to the Underworld or Otherworld.

Living very close to their hearts, animals are going to be tune. They are part of the ebbs and flows of the natural world, a world crackling with spiritual energy. As such, I think cats in general and black cats in particular would make excellent intermediates with spirit.

Cats companions of mine who’ve passed do come to visit me. I see them out of the corner of my eye, feel them walking on the bed to snuggle up sometimes at night, making their presence felt in various ways.  These visits are common enough I no longer question them.

I also consider my little black kitty, Jewels, to be my familiar. I don’t know if she’s been with me in other lives or not, but she obviously loves me and tries to look after me in this life. And as I’ve said before, she is unquestionably psychic. She’s laying behind,  on the back of the chair I’m sitting in, as I write this.

Do you believe black cats have a special connection to the spirit world?

Confusing Signs?

I’ve been having a conversation about identifying spirit signs. I have my personal “tells” — goosebumps, the three-times rule, an internal “click” and sense of knowing. I’ve written about this before, but here’s what I’m wondering today: how do you recognize for sure something is NOT a sign?

You know. Like when is a rose just a rose and nothing more than a rose? When does something pop into your head because somebody is thinking of you instead of because your guides are hitting the hotline to let you know something?

I am all about the free will,  and completely believe that you can get indications of what’s coming but sometimes, things change. Heck, that’s kind of the point of doing readings–to give yourself more options and insight based on the direction the energy is currently moving. It’s about choices! If you couldn’t make alternations in your course, there would pretty much be no point in reviewing your course, huh?

Complicating the field, we have imagination. Woo-Woo people have it in spades, because it’s the channel through which the info flows. That watery energy both gives you access to the etheral and obscures reality simultaneously. Blessing and curse, as they say. It’s like it’s not polite to suggest that some things people take as signs are just over-reaching, but truth be told, haven’t we all done it? I will ‘fess up! If I’m making a big decision, I may check in multiple ways over the course of multiple days, just to make sure I’m not seeing just what I want to see.

So between imagination and free will squaring off, I can’t go straight to physical manifestation as proof positive here. Just because it didn’t happen a certain way doesn’t mean the energy wasn’t in place for it. Only that it didn’t happen that way.

Which brings me back to the original question. Is it connected to the information itself? Is it about what’s empowering? Is it your state of mind? Other influences in your environment? Where do you look for this insight? I’m not talking about faith or lack thereof here. I’m talking about developing some confidence around where you put your faith, you know?

Do you have experience with something that felt like a sign but in retrospect, you  decided otherwise? How did you come to this conclusion? If you have any tricks, tips, or resources related to this question, I’d much appreciate hearing about it!

Whoooo Whoooo – Owls!

Shawdowscapes High Priestess

One of my folks has been seeing an INSANE number of owls–some very in-your-face appearances, no less. Nothing subtle about it.

I sometimes have periods where I see certain animals repeatedly, or in a highly noticeable way. This is one way our “people” have of communicating with us, I believe. Butterflies, hummingbirds, squirrels and cats have all spoken to me at one time or another. (Go ahead and laugh. I’m too busy talking to my cats to notice, thank you very much.)

I personally associate owls with the High Priestess–keepers of hidden knowledge and deep insight. Wisdom, especially. When I play online Dungeons and Dragons with my husband, the wisdom spell makes an owl sound. Owls can see through the darkness, and turn their heads around. They’re often quiet, and high up. They observe from an advantageous perspective.

Wasn’t too long ago that my mom sent me this video of an Eagle Owl in slow motion. Noticeable since mom usually doesn’t send these kinds of things to me. It’s remarkable imagery!

Do you see owls? What do they mean to you?
