Old-School Ethics – Weekly Tarot Forecast, Mar 23 – 29

So how has this eclispsey astro-weather been treating you? I’ve been feeling a heightened emotionality all around…the vibrational air seems literally saturated with emotion, both personally and in the group consciousness. But this one didn’t kick my ass in my personal sphere as much as some do. Thank goodness! I did pull out my moldavite necklace just in case though. I always wear moldavite around eclipses, so if I get blindsided with a smack, I can move on quickly…it’s helped so much with that.

Looking at the week ahead, I’m struck by the number of Major Arcana cards here. It has a punch! I’d also very much advise to make all decisions this week with an eye towards your core values, sustainability, and what you want for the long haul. It’s not a good time to be taking shortcuts of any type, nor cutting corners, fudging or lying. Those that don’t play it straight Monday may get a slap come the end of the week. By the weekend, you’ll likely see the wisdom of the old-school, do-it-the-right-way orientation.

Monday –  Temptation (The Devil): Make absolutely the same moves in private (nobody would ever know), that you would make standing upon a stage in the throes of a genuine “YouTube moment.” This approach is the best insurance, not only against future embarrassment, but also against darkening of the soul. You DO have a choice. Exercise it. It buys freedom.

Tuesday –  Power (Strength): Gentle, steady, and unshakable could be a great mantra today. You have what you need inside of you, so call upon it.

Wednesday –  Patience & Planning (Seven of Pentacles): Take your steps today with the long haul and delayed gratification in mind. The future has this sometimes inconvenient way of showing up one day. When it does, you’ll be glad you made the right choices along the way.

Thursday –  Rejoice in Celebration (Three of Cups) : Connect with your people and feel grateful for the good in your life. No matter what your life, there is always some good.

Friday –  Truth (Judgment): This is a balanced, unbiased accounting. It’s not about reward or punishment so much as objectivity and understanding. You may have opportunity to be glad about how you behaved earlier this week. Ha!

Saturday –  Positive Movement Forward (Eight of Pentacles): Seeing progress is always a relief. You may not be where you want to be. (So few of us are.) But it’s still very important—perhaps more important—to recognize and appreciate the milestones along the way in such circumstance.

Sunday –  Prosperity Begins (Ace of Pentacles): The seeds you’ve planted are preparing to sprout. Yay for sprouted seeds!

Advice/Overview –  Wisdom (The Hierophant): Go old-school. Do what you know is right this week, according to tradition, how you were raised, what you were taught by the teachers you honor and respect, following the advice of those who have gone before. This tried-and-true approach is what’s required.

Affirmation –  Plum, Overcome Your Challenges: Sometimes, doing the right thing is hard. Heck, sometimes even knowing the right thing is hard. And by “the right thing” I don’t mean the objectively single best decision in any given circumstance. I mean making the choice where your heart, your head and your spirit remain in alignment.

This is a week we’ll have hills to climb and distractions to overcome. There is a potential to get derailed. But if you stay on task and remember not only what you’re trying to do, but WHO YOU ARE and what you want to be about, you’re on course for making some headway. Stay true to yourself out there!

Not How; What or Why Instead. Tarot Flow Forecast, March 2 – 8

I recently told a friend, I’d stopped worrying so much about what kind of work I’m doing, and starting thinking a lot more about what kind of life I want to be living. It’s a lot easier, too. I don’t know that I’m much closer to living it with the switch, but I feel better. The view is much sharper, with a lot less bother about my life not stepping up to meet my expectations. Who am I to have those expectations about how the Universe is must do my bidding, you know?

This week? It reminds me of that. The “how” questions seem pointless right now, red herrings one and all. It’s the “what” and “why” questions that are interesting…

Monday, Attitudes and Thoughts –  Seven of Cups: Things are not necessarily as they seem and in particular, motivations are not the same, way deep down, as they appear superficially. This could go both for others, or for yourself. It’s a day to either dig in or wait it out, but don’t assume all is the duck it quacks like. Ha!

Tuesday, Romance –  Eight of Pentacles Reversed: Work time interfering with date night? Things “okay” but not quite? Not showing enough love to yourself? Something is mostly working, but probably still a little “off” in the romance department. If you’re currently sans sweetie, this could instead apply to creative venues or even the more indulgent variety self-care (meaning “indulgent” in a good way, because I usually do). So look to fix what’s off, or at least have patience. It takes time to work this out and you develop skill as you go. It’s alright.

Wednesday, What to Let Go of in the Future –  King of Pentacles: Make the “inner circle” a little smaller, in terms of who you feel responsibility to care for directly. This isn’t a “today” thing so much as it’s an ongoing awareness of what’s coming up. Don’t overextend your good intentions or that’s all you’ll have left: a boatload of good intentions and an empty fridge. Do what you can, sure. Be supportive and inspiring, great! But not all problems are yours to solve. (Note to self: shut up!)

Thursday, Crowning Influences –  The Hanged Man Reversed: Do you just want to do SOMETHING? That’s what this looks like to me, the urge to do something, anything at all. The drive to take action permeates the day. That’s neither good nor bad, really. Just make sure the “something” you do makes sense and is done with optimism and a pure heart, okay? Decisive is fine. Action is useful. Just…be judicious.

Friday, What is Hidden –  Six of Wands Reversed: Little mistakes go unnoticed. What we may see (or feel) as failure will most likely look more like a minor delay, a mere blip to someone else. Don’t be too self-critical, and give yourself credit for all the progress you have made. Okay? Nobody else sees us as harshly as we do ourselves, most of the time.

Saturday,  Action –  Strength: It’s a time to be solid, real and absolutely do the right thing. Speak truth—gently, yes, softly and with tact, absolutely. But don’t fudge facts even an iota. Be fearless in following your own moral code and do not flinch! Pure, loving intentions are what gets you through the scary bits.

Sunday, Blocking or Covering –  The Sun: A happy day! The lightness (or more likely relief) as the week winds up is palpable. A good day to spend with people you care about. Laughter and joy are quite possible.

Overview/Advice –  Page of Pentacles: Pay attention not just to broad strokes this week, but the details especially. Read the fine print before signing. Make sure you understand before agreeing. Wait for all the testimony before declaring a verdict. It’s not a week for premature conclusions…or should I say, it’s a week were premature conclusions would be all too easy?

Affirmation –  Decide. By “decide” here, I don’t mean, decide what you want to do. I mean, decide who you want to be. This is infinitely easier and usually, much more effective. The “how” follows the “what.” Set your intention itself. Set your aims, for how you want to live, who you want to be. Then the Universe can properly support you, because you’re not offering it a specific, this-way-only path to get there.

Overall, this week is like a puzzle that by Sunday, we see a bigger picture. I like a strong finish! Mostly, observing…yourself, the people around you, your drives and worries—such endeavors can make this week very productive and informative, even if your accomplishments are not the “resume” type. Much love and good luck.

Revisionist History: Weekly Flow, January 19 – 25

forecast 002

Many years ago, I went to a reader at a psychic fair and asked my favorite question to ask of readers: “What do you see regarding my spiritual development?

Am I doing it right? Am I missing something? Am I progressing fast enough?

It seems those questions never go away completely, at least not for me. Because I try to follow the dots, I try to do what I’m led to do when I’m led to do it, but it doesn’t always work out “right” by my expectations. It feels like failure, but that doesn’t mean it is failure.

Almost 10 years ago, I got the opportunity to buy a low carb community. I had all the signs there, clear as day, in my face obvious, this was the right choice, so I did it. Enthusiastically and with both feet, I jumped in! A couple years of relentless work went by and I was incredibly disappointed, in both myself and my spiritual support system, when that venture didn’t end up as successful as I’d hoped.

That path, however, branched out in ways I could not have anticipated. It pushed me to expand my knowledge base and skillset way beyond my comfort zone.  More recently, that chain of circumstances has left me managing a sizable low carb Facebook page, at a time when I’m getting clear signs I need to attend to my own eating habits and health. Not wanting to be a big, fat hypocrite, I have very much cleaned up my own act. Had I not found myself at the helm of that community now, I’d probably still be eating junk.

So I could say that initial decision was a failure. Or I could say, it gave me exactly what I needed, even when I had no idea I needed it. There have been SO MANY times, so many projects and plans and ventures, that have gone down exactly the same way. It’s almost as if the Universe conspired against my will to look after my best interests and turned “failures” into big, fat blessings. When I manage some perspective, I can begin to see at least some of the many layers I would never have been able understand at the time.

There are echos of the past ringing throughout this weekly forecast, along with the ability to redefine some of that past. While I’m usually not a big fan of revisionist history (in the self-serving sense), this week it can work in your favor—not by denying what’s come before so much as reframing it. Reframing your history is an incredibly powerful tool. It’s a good week to wield it to your advantage.

When I did the draw for last week, I felt the urge to do a second for this week. I noticed we got the same affirmation (after shuffling). That suggests this week is a continuation of last week’s vibe. Hello, Mercury retrograde (Jan. 21 – Feb. 11, 2015)!

Monday, What you Can Change – Ace of Swords Reversed: You can change how you think, and what you accept as immutable reality. Really, one single thought, a core concept reversed, will put everything else in an entirely different framework. It’s a day to question assumptions and convictions to see if they hold up. Whatever you’ve just decided is, well, is it?

Tuesday, Friendship – Nine of Pentacles: A world of education at your fingertips, courtesy friends. If you are having trouble mastering your lower impulses especially, friends can provide a veritable how-to manual. Even if you don’t ask for advice directly, look for instruction on dealing with your own situation by how your friends have dealt with their life.

Wednesday, Romance,  Queen of Cups Reversed: Connections are intact and strong, but I’m expecting excessive sentimentality and/or out-and-out moodiness with this Queen on her head. Tears are quite possible. A hot bath and (maybe) a glass of wine will soothe jangled nerves. Regardless, know the emotional intensity is a passing thing. Don’t treat it as permanent. Just let it flow through you and run it’s course.

Thursday, Career – Emperor Reversed: Work mate says, “You’re not the boss of me.” Not a good day to play dictator with coworkers! Possibly, there is a boss that lets things get out of hand. As far as you are concerned, keep yourself in check with work-related issues. Self-control is the name of the game and personal responsibility pays dividends.

Friday, Success – Six of Pentacles: Generosity pays off today. You may be either benefactor or donor, but group endeavors and giving of your time, energy or money has rewards. This is the magic that brings it all together. Yay!

Saturday, Past – Eight of Cups Reversed: Eh…echos of the past. What do you claim to “be over” but aren’t, completely? This floats in your brain. There may be triggers, there may be tears. Don’t be frustrated that that emotional history is not scrubbed clean from your life. It’s not a sign of weakness, dealing with past issue. It’s a sign you’re strong enough to continue your work at a higher octave.

Sunday, Blocking or Covering – Strength: This is the note that plays in the background throughout the week. Slow, gentle, steadily dealing with each day, each feeling, each challenge as it arises. Going into a Mercury Retrograde the 21, we’re clearly reviewing the past but as dull as that sounds, it’s got an enormous perk: We have a chance to adjust it’s meaning! That is a wonderful, if sometimes underappreciated, gift.

Overview/Advice – Five of Pentacles Reversed: Stop focusing on what you don’t have for God’s sakes! Go back to focusing on what you do. How you view your station is utterly and completely your own choice and while a perspective of lack drains you, a perspective of gratitude feeds you. Be willing to reach out for support when you need it, all while retaining responsibility for your own damn self.

Affirmation – I am safe in the Universe and all life loves and supports me. What needs to happen, happens. The Universe has your back.

Two-Step Forward Tango: Weekly Flow Tarot, Dec 29 – Jan 4

Tarot Dec 29 - Jan 4

As I look this over, I think of the bit I just read today from my friend Josi, on the 1st quarter moon.

“It is quite common to encounter blocks to intentions at this time. These blocks are not necessarily horrible. Sometimes they are small things that we overcome quite easily. But what they do is put that challenge in front of you so you can walk through the whole assessment thing. You stop, consider your goal, consider the challenge and then decide if you still want to follow through. ” –Josi Case

That’s what this week looks like to me. Challenges and reassessing—two steps forward, one step back in a perhaps-frustrating-but-probably-fruitful dance. I think this is the kind of week that won’t make sense in the middle. It’s only after the fact we’ll realize what all happened. You know what I mean?

Monday, Goal- Magician reversed: The goal is not to have to force each and every little bit of the process. We want a little flow without having to “make it happen” utterly and entirely. Since we’re talking “goal,” that means we’re not there yet.

Tuesday, Unconscious Desires – Six of Cups:  A wish for things to be simpler, less complicated. This is a desire to let go, relax and trust the first person who stands before us. It’s a wish for a sense of innocence. In the position of “unconscious desires,” you may not be aware of just how strong this drive actually is. Be sure you’re not inadvertently overlooking the obvious or blindly trusting today. Not saying things ARE complicated or people ARE untrustworthy. For all I know, that’s not so. But factor the weight of personal desire out of the evaluation algorithm.

Wednesday, Partner, Nine of Wands reversed: The partner here is tired and wants to just let go. Expect this, and offer a hand if appropriate.

Thursday, Future – Strength reversed: You don’t have to hold out forever. But for now? Yeah. Hang on, slow, steady and gentle.

Friday, Disappointment – Chariot reversed: This is a detour. Disappointment over getting sidetracked. Even reversed, the Chariot is a pretty positive card. But I’m reading this as impatience with a delay. Sorry!

Saturday, Blocked or Covering – Queen of Swords: We need a release, and one not based on emotional consideration. Where are you overbooked, overworked, unable to keep up? What ball doesn’t really belong in your court? What habit must you give up in order to reach your goal? What’s weighing you down, or in your way? That’s the root of the detour, right there.

Sunday, Past – Five of Pentacles: The Five of Pentacles is nobody’s favorite card (at least, that I know of), but hey…it’s in the position of “past.” That helps. I see this as longing for something now gone, feeling a loss of old. It could be as simple as mourning a loss of innocence from Tuesday’s “unconscious desire.” It could be feeling Saturday’s realization, which cannot really be taken back. Honor whatever feelings you have, but reach out to your support system as well. I find there is always a support system available when I see this card; people are often just reluctant to invoke it.

Advice/Overview – The Moon: This week is a very small, and in some ways deceptive part of the picture. A lot of grounding and reassurance can take place via reframing. Work a little magic with your words, focusing on the where you’re going over where you’ve been. The moon is the realm of both magic and madness, so work the magic hard to skip the crazy part.

AffirmationListen to your heart. When we’ve got a challenging stint facing us, doing the best we can, doing what we feel good about deep down inside, is a sort of insurance. This is a way you can live without regret, so long as you know you’ve always done the best you know how to do. I used to ask my kids when facing dilemmas, “What would you feel good about?” I suspect this may be a useful question to ask yourself this week, focused only on yourself. What would I feel good about doing? Whatever it is, do that.

Life’s White Spaces: Weekly Flow Tarot, Dec. 22 – 28

Tarot Dec 22 -28

Happy Solstice/New Moon! There is unquestionably some magic on tap, but it’s a Capricorn new moon. So you have to turn on the faucet yourself.

This looks to be a very transitional week. I’m reminded of cleaning out a closet to make way for new clothing, or clearing out a room so someone can move in. Looking at next week as a whole, it strikes me as a mix of emotion and action. But the twist is that most of the “action” potential is rooted in inaction. Big happenings are settling into life’s white spaces—what’s not is as important (or more so) than what is. It’s what you are not doing, not saying, not forcing, that opens up the room to allow. Even saying that is making me feel all existentialist or something. But let’s hit the highlights, day by day.

Monday, Question – The Hanged Man: The question here is one of inaction. Maybe not what you should do, so much as what you should leave alone. For any situations where you are feeling unsure, faith and allowing situations to play out is the recommended strategy.

Tuesday, What to Take from the Past – Page of Cups: Strong, loving heart energy is what you want to access today. Jaded and loving don’t mix. Look a for a pure, uncomplicated, and heart-centered approach. No finesse or relationship management required or desired. I won’t say it’s necessarily easy. It requires a sometimes staunch faith to execute. Some might call this naïve or simplistic. I call it potent, very potent energy.

Wednesday, Hobbies and Talents – Four of Cups: Pastimes and activities you enjoy are a form of meditation. They definitely allow a different perspective. These kinds of activities today may alert you to what you’re missing as much as what you have. You don’t have to seek these answers, by the way. The act of losing yourself in personal expression creates space in your head and your heart, not filled up with daily bustle. It provides a contrast so the points can be more readily perceived.

Thursday, What to Avoid – Four of Wands reversed: Merry Christmas! Advice? Be extra respective of other’s partners and family, even if you don’t feel all that enthused. Not the day to suggest a divorce to anybody! Now maybe this is common sense on a day people often spend with family or maybe not, but the reversed Four of Wands suggests not to disrupt any apple carts. What you don’t say counts! It’s also an important day to honor commitments.

Friday, Co-Workers – High Priestess: The High Priestess is another one of those between-the-lines energies. In the position of co-workers, it would suggest an unspoken understanding related to people you are partnering with. This could be work of course, project related. But it doesn’t have to be. It can speak to any flavor of joint project. Partners may know more than you think they do. Listen for what’s not said. If you are in doubt regarding your own behavior with co-workers, wait, hold back or remain silent. This is another example of the white spaces.

Saturday, Pros – Strength reversed: It’s interesting to find Strength reversed in the “Pros” position. I’m going to say having limits as to time, energy and resources is actually helpful today. It allows you to be human, and encourages you to grant yourself permission to let go of some things in order to direct your resources into others. Your strength shows up via energy freed by what you are not doing. White spaces.

Sunday, Resolution – Nine of Wands reversed: Problems are resolved via not being the last holdout! Stubbornness is not helpful today. Yesterday, we looked at how much was too much. Today, let the “too much” part go. That’s the resolution.

Advice/Overview – Chariot Reversed: Avoid singled-minded focus (read: myopic). The Chariot is indirect anyway. Reversed, it’s so indirect as to be confusing.

AffirmationClaim Your Boundaries: I spoke to someone recently about their circle, and how it’s shrinking. I had a rather vivid image, of a circle around the person, getting smaller and smaller. I don’t think of this as inherently bad. It’s like extract, the essence being accessed. The energy is not so watered down. Reducing a sauce by cooking it down, you know? You allow the heat and time to do it’s work. That’s what this coming week is about. New moons are for starting new projects, new energy patterns, but an inherent component of a new energy pattern is continuing, day by day, to release existing patterns. You have to have white space before it can be filled. Boundaries management is always a vital skill. But for this week, you’re not trying to direct the entire orchestra of everyone in your life. You’re not off to save the world or find the “magic right words” to teach kindness to someone on the internet. You are only regulating yourself. People get confused, thinking boundaries are about regulating the behavior others. They are not…otherwise, setting boundaries would be an impossible proposition. We cannot control anybody else. But boundaries never regulate others. Boundaires specify what you allow into YOUR experience. That is much, much simpler.

Are you noting some “white spaces” in your life?

Lion to Lamb – Weekly Flow Tarot Forecast, Aug 25 – 31

Tarot Forecast

Seeing the week start out with so many of the Wands, I am thinking we begin with some heat, some motion and a lot of activity. Expecting a busy week, with recuperation needs to catch up with us at the end of the week. The flow here reminds me of the old phrase about March, in like a Lion, out like a Lamb? That’s this week. Roaring on Monday all the way through napping on Sunday.  So plan your activities to tackle high energy demands early in the week and you’ll be more free to flow into the end of the week with less stress.

Monday, Lesson – Queen of Wands: Why me? Sometimes when faced with challenges, we ask ourselves, “why me?” This queen would tell you, it’s because you need to know you are strong, because your will is being clarified, because you need to prioritize and crystallize your intentions. She says that life is the sandpaper that smooths the wood. The Queen of Wands teaches the lessons of strength, perseverance and single-mindedness to complete a quest. Emulate her today and you’ll graduate this lesson with a passing grade at least.

Tuesday, Situation – Page of Wands: Think active, laying the groundwork for what is to come. Pages are young, so things are just getting started. There may be big plans, exciting plans, or a message with possibilities. This is a day for setting the stage. If you have to-do tasks for long term goals, employment related chores, or the inspiration to begin a creative project, it’s an excellent time for starting to get things in order. Just understand there may be changes and morphing along the way. But for now, getting started is what counts.

Wednesday, What you can Change –King of Wands: Quite literally, you can change what you DO. You cannot control what anybody else does, or thinks or believes. But you can change what you do. So if you want a change in what’s going on, make a change in what you do. Keep following through with what you started earlier in the week.

Thursday, Coworkers – Strength: Get some extra patience, help and support from those you are working with, or offer some up if you’ve got some to spare. Here, “coworkers” can be anyone with whom you share common objectives. The idea being that getting through life’s difficulties is a whole lot easier if done in a group, and that group support is on offer right now. Gentle, easy-going and patience, it doesn’t have to be dramatic. But the results of group endeavors might be. Just not the endeavor itself.

Friday, Conscious Desires – Hanged Man Inverted: Tap, tap, tap, foot tapping! This is impatience. This is an urge to “meddle” and mess and an undercurrent of anxiety. There’s an itch to just “do something.” I’d say most likely, you’ll have trouble completing something concrete, it’s sort of a hard-to-grasp energy here. But you can make lists, contingency plans, organize and classify. That counts as “something” that can be done. So do it, and then take yourself a walk to burn off nervous energy. Ground, okay? Ground.

Saturday, Blocking or Covering – Two of Wands reversed: Are you feeling kind of insecure, wall-flowerish? That timid response can be a liability if nobody understands what you’re trying to say. Be clear. Stand up for yourself as needed without being argumentative. Being clearly yourself and clear about yourself doesn’t start a standoff. It helps avoid misunderstandings.

Sunday, Body – Ace of Cups: An emotional day, or day to emotionally recover. Time outside, time around the water, meditation and overall quiet does an awful lot of good. I’m also getting the feeling we really just need a chance to process the rest of the week! Don’t overbook today. Allow spaces between the activities because the most important parts of this day happen in the spaces.

Overview/Advice – 10 of Cups Reversed: You may not see consensus among those you care about this week. Family and the family of friends you call your own might not see everything eye-to-eye with you. That’s okay. You don’t have to agree with someone to love them anyway! Otherwise, we’d only have to look in the mirror for companionship. I’d be very aware throughout the week of putting the love first, the opinions and differences clearly second. You know what I mean? Peace is worth cultivating. You have to make your own decisions, and should. Just don’t let differences in perspective drive a wedge between you and loved ones. Opinions change, but people that give a damn about you are VALUABLE. If feelings are getting a bit raw, seek space to allow a little cool down time. That helps. And look forward to some nap time on Sunday if you can!

Affirmation: “Woo-Woo” is wonderful. Love this one! Be you, free and true. One of the toughest things for people to get over when they are really kicking in with tuning in to their own intuition, more into the “woo” as we say, is NOT outside criticism although there is that aplenty. It’s the self-criticism that shuts them down! Without it, they can begin to hear the inner voice and getting that kick-ass guidance system fully operating. Stop worrying about how or why or God help us, what next, what next?!? Just DO. This is a great week—okay, I think every week is a great week for really turning the connection on high.

We’re starting out on fire, so make the early week active as Hell, knock out as much as you can, allow others to be there for you as they show up, and sink back into the comfy chair to figure out what happened next weekend. But through it all, be YOU, be honest with yourself and take deep breaths to listen, listen, listen to what your gut tells you. Don’t you know, it never steers you wrong?

Does this fit your week’s schedule?! Sounds busy, sometimes kind of challenging, but damn productive. Go get ‘em!
