12/24/12: Christmas Eve Fun | Page of Wands

“Life is a song – sing it. Life is a game – play it. Life is a challenge – meet it. Life is a dream – realize it. Life is a sacrifice – offer it. Life is love – enjoy it.” Sai Baba

I often think of the Osho Zen deck when I see the page of Wands, as that deck calls this page “Playfulness.” As all the Tarot Wands, this energy is creative, hot, and bold, and like all the Tarot pages, it’s youthful and fresh vibes we’re talking. I often consider the Page of Wands as a student—especially of the arts.

It’s a great day for cooking, crafts, or some plain, old fashioned fun. Take a page from this page, and enjoy yourself!

Are you having some fun today?

05/15/12: A little attention? | Page of Pentacles

“Wisdom and understanding can only become the possession of individual men by travelling the old road of observation, attention, perseverance, and industry.” Samuel Smiles

Here we have a very soft Page of Pentacles (Earth in Earth)—the flowers in her hair and her demure countenance provides contrast to the usual RWS borderline OCD page. She’s earthy and flowering. And you know, that IS another side of the page.

Tarot Pages, like those of any royal court, often bring messages. When she does, you can bet the message brings practical, real-world application. She’s all about Earth, which means physical manifestation.

No need to obsess! But do know this Princess may indicate to watch for messages—from your body, from your family, or even from your bank account. She pays attention to all aspects of physical life, and therefore implores you to do the same.

Does this Princess-Page have a message for you today?

01/25/12: From the Heart | Page of Cups

“Go to you bosom: Knock there, and ask your heart what it doth know.” William Shakespeare

When I’m struggling, bothered or uncertain, I’ve found a pretty simple way to decide how to behave, including or how to deal with others who may not be acting in a way I like: I do only what I can feel good about doing, and pull back from what I cannot. Yes, that’s simplistic, but it really does work wonders. It discovered that approach through the world’s ugliest custody battle and I’ve used it for difficult situations ever since.

The Page of Cups (Earth in Air) only knows one way to live—from the heart. Pure and simple. When I remember that, I seldom go astray. Complications arise when you try to “manage” outside yourself, be it the environment, another person, outcomes, long-range direction, whatever. Wondering and worrying and trying to manipulate the details never has gotten me very far.

But the simple question, “What can I feel good about?” is huge! Not what I feel good about in terms of anybody else or an outcome I don’t directly control. I have full rights over my own involvement. This page reminds me as long as I keep my actions in line with a pure heart and good intent, I’ve done the very best I can do.

I think it works because it forces you to focus on what really matters, using that as the point of reference. What I feel good about contributing to IS very much my business, while any other ick is not. It doesn’t always guarantee I’ll be happy over an outcome for sure. But it does promise me I can sleep at night.

Do you live from the heart?

01/16/12: Not getting the message! | Rev Page of Swords

“The most considerable difference I note among men is not in their readiness to fall into error, but in their readiness to acknowledge these inevitable lapses.” Thomas Huxley

Nobody sees anything, one single damn second before they are ready to see it. I’ve believed this for years, and my experience working with Tarot has done absolutely nothing to convince me otherwise. More like the contrary.

However, if someone is ready and interested to see what’s really there, sometimes you can support and thus hasten their efforts to do so.

By the way, this goes at least double for me, maybe triple! So it’s not like I’m pointing fingers.

Today’s Tarot is the reversed Page of Swords (Earth in Air). Pages often refer to messages, and in the suit of Swords, the message is likely one of reason. Inverted, I’m wondering if we’re just not getting it?

Question what you “know” to be true—you may realize some of what you’ve accepted as fact is actually a belief. It may even be one you’ve outgrown. Consider the source(s) carefully. Consider your biases. Consider your willingness to listen.

Sometimes the hardest messages are the most important. Open your awareness to hearing the unexpected. Even if it stings for a minute (and it might), it’s worth listening to.

Do you sometimes miss the message? I do!

09/30/11: Consistent Focus | Page of Pentacles

page-of-pentaclesCancerMom asked me yesterday about how to take that advice on finding our perspective, mentioning she’d be looking for the answer today. I joked about having performance anxiety, not sure exactly what we’d end up with. Oddly enough, I think this is something she can work with here…

Today’s Tarot forecast is the Page of Pentacles or “Princess of the Echoing Hills,” associated with Earth in Earth. Tarot Pentacles are representative of physical concerns and Tarot Pages are youthful, new energy. It’s not the well-worn road you’re used to, but a new path being forged here. The Page of Pentacles is a very hard worker, you know. Down to earth and conscientious, this page can be relied upon. More than anything, this page oozes consistency.

You keep your focus on what you want in your life by LIVING it. You feed what you want to grow, starve what you don’t. Having diligently undertaken your internal work, the old is not so tightly attached. This frees up your energy to be applied elsewhere. Don’t worry if it doesn’t seem smooth sailing, all the time. Nothing ever is. It’s where you’re putting in your energy consistently that matters here. Blips are merely blips, not immortal beasts.

Do you know where to focus your energy now?

08/06/11: Watch Your Mouth! | Page of Swords

page-of-swords-tarot-meaningI was talking to a friend recently, and noting what I consider to be one of the most challenging parts of parenting adult children: knowing when to speak, and when to keep your mouth shut. It’s like from the time they turn twelve for the rest of their lives, the whole scene is a exercise in Zen and self-control. It doesn’t lessen much as they age, from what I can see.

Today’s Tarot forecast is the Page of Swords or Prince of the Rushing Winds, associated with Earth in Air. Ideas (Air) begin (Page) to materialize (Earth). The caveat is that the ideas may or may not be sound—no telling at this stage! Are you trimming trouble from your world or simply running with scissors? Time tells.

Swords suggest conflict. With the page of Swords in particular, I’d watch to make sure all the facts are in and carefully weigh situations before alienating others.

The Page of Swords doesn’t know it all. He just thinks he does, which can get a person into trouble, you know? If in doubt, observe a while instead of running amok with the mouth. Otherwise, it could be costly.

This isn’t to say you don’t have sound ideas now. Absolutely! But the whole picture is not fully developed, and may not be for a while. That’s fine. Let it come together in due time. For now, make like a scientist and gather data. When it’s time to act, you can be confident of your observations and prepared for the outcome of speaking to them, having weighed it out and found confirmation in advance.

Walk carefully and mindfully when carrying scissors. Let’s not put someone’s eye out, okay?

How are you doing with minding the mouth?
