Six of Wands Rx: Do-It-Yourself Bright Sides

Some of the whole purge-fest I’m doing is sorting my memories and history.

There’s an incense burner I’ve been considering. I’m not kidding when I say I’m inching along here, considering things in isolation of all else.

So yes, it sounds ridiculous. But I’m considering this incense burner at length.

I really love the design. It’s a light blue ceramic dragon and it’s very cool. But the piece has got baggage.

I bought this incense burner to cheer myself up on a very hard day several years ago. It was a weepy day. A day where I felt like a failure.

A day I don’t particularly like to remember.

So what is this incense burner to me, now? Is this a physical representation of that rough day? Or is it a tangible symbol of my decision to be kind to myself when I most needed it?

In reality, it’s both. What it’s mostly is what I decide for it to be.

And that decision is the same sort of thing we’re looking at for next week.

Next Week in Tarot

Outlook is the reversed Six of Wands, with advice coming through as the Ten of Pentacles, pictured from the Radiant Rider-Waite deck.

I expect the week to feature plenty of partial wins, and that’s good news. However, it’s not all going to  pretty in the making, so just let yourself be okay with that. Pragmatically speaking, what choice do we have anyway?

Count your blessings, whatever they are. Make the most of what’s good. Eat, drink and be merry with whatever bounty you discover. Give yourself full permission to dismiss any losses as ultimately unimportant (because they are, whether or not it’s obvious yet).

Calling up loving feelings will help you stay grounded and centered throughout. Love will help you see blessings for what they are. Love offers clarity and direction. Love connects us to inspiration and creativity.

In fact, I’d go so far as to say love really fixes damn near everything next week. Consider it your go-to cure-all secret weapon and you’ll do well.

Are you mixing up some bright sides?

Ten of Pents Reversed: Right or Happy?

It’s been stunning for me to realize how radically different that various individuals can be looking at the very same situations. It’s like we’re watching entirely different movies and arguing about the plot. It reminded me of the Kipling ballad.

Oh, East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God’s great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth! -Kipling, The Ballad of East and West

I’ve always really liked this poem. But today, the timelessness strikes me. While the particulars of the story or the language used would be different today than in 1899 when it was first published, the meaning is every bit as understandable.

It’s worth noting our shared humanity as we navigate next week. There will be plenty of opportunities for those committing to that process.

Next Week in Tarot

I accidently reached for the Angel cards first, so I flipped one to go with the weekly reading as an affirmation. “Look for a Sign” was the message about the message.

To elaborate, Tarot delivered a reversed Ten of Pentacles for our weekly outlook, with The Sun showing up as advice. These lovely cards from the Star Tarot gave me the exactly sign I was looking for.

The reverse Ten of Pentacles denotes a hopefulness. We’re unquestionably NOT one big happy family right now, effectively loving one another and working toward shared prosperity–that would be an upright Ten of Pentacles. But for this card to even show up, at least some of that energy must be present, although not fully expressed in the current state. But it’s still there.

In other words, we already share far more than we realize.  A song I just ran across captured that feeling for me.

The Sun asks us to seek a fresher, simpler outlook. We are looking at the world with a new view.

Love, joy and kindness supersedes all else with the Sun’s energy. Broad strokes matter more than specific details. Intentions matter more than interpretations. You could call this perspective naïve. I’d call it refreshingly optimistic myself. Two sides of the same coin, I suppose.

The Sun’s perspective will assume that others mean well, even if their ideas about what that “well” looks like are very different from your own. It’s easy to ascribe positive motives to those whom we agree with. It takes a conscious decision and sometimes quite a bit of effort to do the same for those we don’t.

Given the choice, would you rather be right or happy? That is precisely the choice we have before us.

We can look for signs that we’re completely correct about all we judge wrong in the world. We’ll be able to find it. We can also look for signs of all that’s right in the world. We will, without question, be able to find it as well. It’s a big world and both are obviously present, depending on where we aim our gaze. What we find highlights where we’re looking more than anything else.

I’m expecting ample excuse for both upset and encouragement next week. It’s all going to be in front of us, streaming in brilliant colors. Stress brings out both the best and the worst of us.

I’m looking for signs of the best. Which ones are you looking for (Dix asks rhetorically)?

Ten of Pentacles Rx: Mind Your Own Affairs

I was hanging out with a friend recently. She was talking about catching some grief for befriending folks who live to a different standard than she (and the other person) follows.

The specific differences we’re talking are irrelevant, really.  It could have been a Republican to a Democrat or a Christian to an atheist or whatever. Anything that entails a differing set of beliefs about what’s moral and true would qualify.  The combinations are endless.

“They’re good people. That’s all I need to know. ”  In short, she doesn’t run someone’s life through any sort of ideological litmus test before opening up her heart.

I’ve got mad respect for that approach. I think it’s so much more fruitful to live the best life I can personally than to appoint myself director of everyone else’s choices.

This coming week, it would be a great approach to emulate. (And after that as well, but that’s another issue.)

Next Week in Tarot

For the outlook, we’ve got the Ten of Pentacles (reversed) and advice was the King of Pentacles (also reversed). I photographed them upright because the level of detail on artwork of the Illuminati Tarot is much easier to take in upright.

Here’s the video version.

A lot is going on in the world. Many people–perhaps some especially close to you–have many opinions of what’s righteous versus what’s folly amongst the hubbub.

Your job is to make completely sure you’re managing YOUR affairs. You all know I’m always harping on staying in your own lane–as much a reminder to myself as to anyone else. But this week, the cards are backing me up on this one. There’s enough going on already. You just do YOU, okway?

If you want a little extra perspective while you’re figuring out what you want, though, I’m more than glad to help. Give me a holler for a private session.

Ten of Pentacles & Two of Swords: Madness versus Magic

Yes, sometimes people see the same events but it’s like they are watching two different movies. It’s easy to see out in the world, to a stunning degree.

But you can generate the very same phenomena on an individual level as well.

Looking at the same circumstance in two different states of mind will give you two, very different conclusions.

Madness versus magic is a matter of perspective right now. It’s up to you to choose which you want.

And that’s the theme of the forecast this week.

Next Week in Tarot

ten of pentacles two of swords tarot

This week, we’ve got the Ten of Pentacles (outlook) and the Two of Swords (advice) from the Star Tarot deck.

I expect the week to be good with one caveat: you have to DECIDE that will be good.

We’re so used checking outside conditions to confirm or deny our personal state. It’s easy to become anxious, compulsively taking score to decide if we’re doing well enough “to relax” or not.

How much money is in the bank or how did that conversation go or how’s that health condition doing? Too often, we decide how we are by looking around. It’s like we’ve abdicated the responsibility–read, control–for personal well-being to the world at large.

There is no real safety in having a solid job or stable relationship or good health or whatever measurement one uses asa personal hallmark of security.  Security via outside forces is always an illusion. Circumstances can and do change. Determining personal stability via the outside trappings is always a precarious position.

Now, I’m not implying any particular circumstance isn’t meaningful to us individually.Wanting specifics in our life is not inappropriate in any way.

But don’t depend on it! Start by assuming your own capabilities, worth and competence. Expect that even if some aspects of your life is not exactly what you want currently, it’s okay. You’ll figure it out as you go.

It helps to remember that peace of mind is internal. As such, it cannot be granted or snatched away by any outside force, because there is no outside force that bestows the peace. Instead, it’s how we think about those outer circumstances and our own ability to deal with them that grants peace of mind.

Perhaps this seems like mere semantics, but it’s not.

If I need something external to feel okay, then I’m never really free (or safe).

So many times people agonize over decisions, not wanting to make the wrong choice and somehow jeopardize their happiness or well-being. Hiccups come not so much from which choices made as they do from splitting our energy after we make the choices.

The worries, the second-guessing, the stressing out is what disrupts our own flow and intuition. That’s the real danger, not making an “incorrect” choice. It’s not a matter any individual choice being the right choice or wrong choice so much as it’s a matter of being “in the flow” versus not.

You think there’s only a single way to progress is life and if you make a wrong turn, there’s no other route? I don’t!

Being in the flow isn’t the specialty of a few, magical unicorn people. We all have the ability. You make the decision to be tuned in. You quiet your mind. You do your best to stay centered, no matter what is going on in the outside world. And you gracefully accept the fact, sometimes you won’t be there. That’s got to be okay, too, because it will happen. The fussing at ourselves over being off our game is a lot more destructive than actually being off our game. Nobody is on-game 100% of the time.

In short, you trust that the Universe will keep spinning, both in your personal life and the world at large. That’s the job of the Universe. Your job is to stay centered and decide to be well.

I expect next week to go very well if you make the decision right here and now, you WILL have a good week. Whatever you see, interpret it in that framework.

You can weigh out your decisions however you like, but once you’ve made one, stick by it. Stand behind yourself! Be your own biggest supporter and the outside world will step up to affirm what you already know. Otherwise, who knows what kind of ride it will be?

How are you at expecting it’s all good, even if you can’t see how right away?

Four of Cups: Finding Unseen Solutions

I held my tongue the other day. Figuratively, at least.

See? It happens!

I kept myself in check until I got a grip on an almost overwhelming urge to be helpful. I didn’t end up saying anything.  The non-beneficiary of my wisdom was someone (justifiably) freaking out over a tech catastrophe.

I know the feeling very, very well. Having managed websites and online services for many years, I’ve had more than my fair share of similar catastrophes. Some only impacted my business, while the worst also impacted my customers, who depended on me to make things work. So yes, I understand.

In fact, compared to my worst freakouts (with full-on cursing and tears), she was holding it together fine. But she was distressed and don’t like people being in distress when I know I have an answer.

I just realized it was an answer she probably wouldn’t have been interested in hearing. I saw no point in further aggravating her to make myself feel better.

Here’s the advice I didn’t give: Once you’ve done what you initially know how to do, the ONLY thing that ever helps is surrender.

Let it go for a while. Step back and distract yourself. Focus on something else and give the problem space.

You are not going to get any flashes of inspiration when you’re freaking out over “how bad” the situation is.  It never, ever happens. You’re not going to make progress. You’re not going to fix it. If anything, you’ll make it worse. The voice of experience knows this.

When things feel like a mess and you have no idea what to do now, the best course is always to offer yourself some relief from the mess.

Whenever and however you can, step back and surrender what is to the current moment. Move your attention elsewhere for a while. Eventually you’ll get your inspiration on how to address the situation most productively. But that inspiration won’t come in the throes of panic. There’s too much static in the emotional waves for you to plug in and hear any answers.

Inspiration only shows up after you detach enough to clear the space for it. It can come quickly, but will take however long is required to clear your head. Nothing else works.

That approach is pretty much what I’m advising for next week. You can listen or not, but I’m doing my best to sell it!

Next Week in Tarot

The outlook this week is the Four of Cups–sage advice comes in the form of a very lush Ten of Pentacles from the rich and colorful deck, Tarot Illuminati.

The Four of Cups indicates we initially won’t see all our options. The most workable choice is close, but easy to miss. Obsessing over past failures, feeling sad and frustrated about what’s not working, keeps us from seeing what will work.

The Ten of Pentacles says to count blessings without equivocation. It’s easy to forget how many wins we have when we’re distressed. So be deliberate about acknowledging blessings–the abundance and the love on tap right now.

Now, this approach may strike some as an utter waste of time. We live in a world that values hard work above all else. If obstacles loom large, they may feel like a crisis. I’m not about to say whatever concerns you doesn’t matter. Just the opposite.

Maybe you feel short of blessings at the moment. I understand that. But no matter what situation we find ourselves in, there is something to be appreciated.

Stepping back, taking a breather and finding some way to feel blessed makes a huge difference. You’ll begin to relax almost immediately Your mind clears. As a result, you become more capable and efficient. It works the same way food or sleep does in terms of strengthening us. It doesn’t have to be a lot here. Just any little bit of appreciation you can seek and find will offer a sense of relief. You get there by appreciating and loving, whatever and however you can, big or small. That’s all you need to start the shift.

Once your mind quiets, answers can show up. And it does so much more, utterly tangible good than almost anyone realizes.

In shifting to an appreciative state, you’re opening doors to intuition and (divine) inspiration. THEN is when you’ll be able to see the glowing cup on offer in this card–the solution that seems like it’s appearing from nowhere but feels “just a little different” and somehow gives you a glimmer hope (before you start tearing it apart in your head, that is).

[bctt tweet=”Appreciation opens a channel for inspiration. ” username=”goddess_dix”]

You can’t strongarm an incoming inspiration into being. You can, however, set yourself up to receive one. By giving yourself permission to stop suffering over problems, setting aside what’s not working and realizing how many good things you have right now, you clear the way to see the gift of solutions.

Whether or not this strikes you as feasible, what do you have to lose in giving it a try? Because if there’s even a chance I’m right here (and I AM), this little bit of advice can turn around even the most intractable situations very quickly.

Have you tried stepping back from problems to allow for solutions to appear?

Who Cares about the Brussel sprouts? Tarot Forecast, Dec. 5 – 11

When my kids were little, they did the same thing all kids do: they looked at ugly veggies like brussel sprouts and declared them disgusting.

I had already firmly established I wasn’t going to make multiple, separate meals for dinner. Frankly, they were lucky I came up with one! But it still was an issue for me getting some veggies down their little gullets, taking my parental responsibilities for their well-being quite seriously as young mothers often do.

“Okay, that’s fine if you don’t like something. As an adult, I don’t force myself to eat things I don’t like. But I expect you to try it before declaring it disgusting.”

See, the “I fixed it just how you like it, with salt and pepper and butter!” had stopped working. So I made a rule, there must be a full bite taken, chewed and swallowed before determining whether or not something was “disgusting” and before being excused from the table

You see where this is going?

Worst rule I ever conjured. It gave me a lot more grief with the boy child than just letting him turn his nose up the the green spheres and be done with it.

Instead, we had a battle of wills. Over brussel sprouts. Who would give in first?

Honestly, I don’t remember who is was that folded. I just remember an extracted battle that felt lousy and completely missed the point of encouraging him to try something new in an open, accepting atmosphere.

This week? It’s kind of like that. You can insist on things that are not really that important (as both of us were doggedly doing in my story). Or you can look at the bigger picture and only insist on what matters. Because most of it doesn’t.

20161203_213207_hdr

Overall, the week is not looking too bad! Basically any setbacks this week look minor and as long as you keep in mind what matters most and dismiss the rest, they are not gonna throw you. Lots of opportunities for replenishing and if you take them, it’s smooth sailing. So go forth and have an awesome week.

Monday, Nine of Cups rx: Generally, I read this card as “almost perfect.” You can find complaints if you look, but why look? There is a lot to enjoy if you’re not a whiner. So don’t be a whiner!

Tuesday, Empress: Awesome day! Creative day, as this is the Tarot Mama. Good day to give birth to something new, or self care is good. Anything you do under the Empresses influence to heal or build yourself up, it tends to be especially effective. Good day.

Wednesday, The Lovers: Expect harmony. Usually with the Lovers, there is choice involved as when the man chooses to be with the wife and leave home, for example. We’re generally looking at fortuitous, comfortable. Will have the option to get your vibe on with people of like mind, so enjoy!

Thursday, Nine of Wands rx: A little different than what we’ve had up to this point. Usually, I’ll see this when someone is tired of holding out. Would not focus a whole bunch on getting your individual way. Shift focus to the bigger picture, what is really important. Forget specifics, but look to principles to get the most here.

Friday, Seven of Wands: Echoing same theme as yesterday. Look at core values, not little details. If it’s not important, let it the heck go!

Saturday, High Priestess: Great time to make time for quiet, contemplative events. Time outside if it’s not too cold, meditation, music, etc. Intuition is in high gear. It’s access through quiet activity, creative stuff, exercising your imagination, dreamwork, etc. Know your radar is in high gear, even if you’re not overly energetic. Not a super active vibe, but very receptive.

Sunday, Queen of Pents rx: Take care of yourself FIRST, before extending hospitality to others. If you don’t, you’ll run out of gas before it’s done.

Overview/Advice: Ten of Pentacles rx. Still a nice vibe even reversed. Stronger upright but still a good vibe. Know this week’s setbacks are minor and you can easily work your way around it if you choose. Keep the good attitude and it will go well. In fact, issues that come up can be helpful in terms of providing useful info anywho. Freaking out, it goes downhill, so keep the good attitude. Do what you can to roll with the flow and don’t get worked up.

Affirmation: As I say yes to life, life says yes to me. Take a chance! Do what you really want to do. For me this conjures up the idea, so many times when we’re looking at why we want something, we actually think in terms of what they don’t want, not what they do. It may seem like the same thing saying you don’t want to be sick vs. you want to be healthy, but it’s a lot different vibration. It’s not as subtle difference as you’d think. There is a big difference between pushing against vs. pulling for, although both bring more into your life.

Do you pick your battles? Or does it depend on your mood?
