Calculated Risks: Weekly Tarot Forecast, Dec 28 – Jan 3

I remember the first professional Tarot reading I did. I was SO terrified! I’d read plenty for friends and family, and later friends and family of friends and family. But with that audience, they are likely to be kind. There is some kind of personal connection. They want to support you, and let’s not forget–you’re doing them a favor if you’re reading gratis. You’re getting practice and they’re getting insight, so it’s mutually agreeable  exchange and they’ll likely be forgiving of any missteps.

But having somebody I didn’t know PAY for my reading was a huge stretch.

I was going to make a go if it through EBay; at the time, you could list Tarot readings there. I charged $15 for a full Celtic Cross. And I wanted backup reassurance, so I got her birthday. After I finished the reading, I ran it through my astrology software, just to make sure what it said was consistent with what I saw. I didn’t include astrological reports with the reading. It was just for personal reassurance. And yes, my reading was on target.

Geez, that lady got a Hell of a deal!

That first reading I did was very much a calculated risk. As terrifying as it was to put myself out there and read for strangers (for actual money!) I knew I could give a good reading. I would never have considered putting myself in that position if not. What I learned in the process was that it’s usually easier to read for strangers because all that stuff you “know” about your loved ones is less likely to get in the way. Still, it was terrifying and hard. And even today, there’s that twinge of anxiety before I start, when I just hand things over to spirit and ask for what’s needed. Even now, it’s easier but still, not easy.

But had I not taken a chance that day, terror and all, you wouldn’t be reading this.

Weekly Tarot Forecast December 28, 2015

Looking over this forecast as a whole, there’s plenty of opportunity for measured risk-taking. We do have several Major Arcana showing up–it’s important stuff we’re dealing with–and a noticeable emphasis on the Water Element with the number of cups appearing. Emotional impact is “a thing.” Themes of balance amidst losses, release and (measured) risk-taking tie this week together with a bow…or maybe it’s a knot.

Monday, Sadness and Isolation – Seven of Swords: What a way to start the week…the image on this card is interesting, though, in that it looks to be prescriptive. Come clean. Emerge from your hiding place, and show yourself, you know? The antidote to isolation is built in–come on out!

Tuesday, Flow – The Wheel: Looking at today, that Kenny Rogers song is going through my brain, The Gambler. “You’ve got to know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em. Know when to walk away. Know when to run.” Pay attention and go with the flow today. Flexibility allows you to ride the tides as they shift.

Wednesday, Opportunity Beckons/Base Chakra – Four of Cups: With the Base Chakra card showing up, we’re talking issues of security and safety, basic needs. Opportunity is beckoning in the form of how those needs get met. You could make a move today–a calculated risk–which increases your sense of security significantly.

Thursday, Spread Your Winds – Two of Wands: Continue to act on those calculated risk.  Risk your ego. Risk your image. Risk stretching outside your established comfort zone. Say what’s on your mind or in your heart. Be honest. Be true to yourself. Sometimes, that’s very hard. But payoffs are often in proportion to the reach, y’know?

Friday, Moving On – Eight of Cups: [recent repeat] Let it go, let it go, let it go! What do you want to walk away from?

Saturday, Rebuild – Tower: [recent repeat] Oy, this is a pretty watered-down Tower representation. Ah well. Oracle Tarot decks, whaddya gonna do? The pattern on her gown makes me think of a house of cards. When you see the Tower, there IS a house of cards has fallen or is about to fall. Whatever does fall, however, was a house of cards. Remember that part. Kind of the point of the Tower, you know? So yes, take stock and rebuild. And understand, houses of cards will always fall. Knowing the difference between the card houses and those made of stronger construction methods will serve. Just keep going, okay? Keep on going.

Sunday, Change Your Focus & Detach – Five of Cups and Justice: These two came out together. Solid follow up to the Tower. It looks very much like grieving–or to be more precise, trying to rebound from grief, at least enough to regain equilibrium. The detachment of Justice isn’t about not caring. It’s about balance. Release through tears, and seek equilibrium.

Overview/Advice, Nurture/Heart Chakra – The Empress: Love yourself. Love others. Care for animals and children and plants…loving is such a very important activity, sharing love. It heals both the giver and recipient. It helps you through the toughest of times, and makes the brightest of times shine brighter. There is no end to the good love can do.

[bctt tweet=”Don’t just guard your heart. Make it stronger via exercise! #quotes”]

Affirmation: I am selfish enough to want to feel good. There is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself. I harp on that point quite a bit, actually. I see self-care as a sacred responsibility. It’s your job to look after yourself, damn it! Don’t push it off on others. “Selfish” is treated like a dirty word, and if you mean caring only for oneself and nobody else, then okay. That’s ugly.

But if you mean protecting your mind, your body, your spirit, healing and nurturing it…well, that’s important. Without that, you’re not much good to anyone else. It’s a waste of the gifts, the energy and resources you have to give. And joy in your own life, doing what you can to feel good, not only impacts you and the people nearby. It impacts every one you come in contact with, directly or indirectly. You are lighting a match, adding the the illumination of all…

Are you comfortable taking calculated risks?

Baking in the Good Intentions: Weekly Tarot Forecast, Sept 28 – October 4

I have a very…tenuous relationship with my family of origin. I don’t talk about it all the time anymore because most of it, I’ve processed, you know? It gets a touch inflamed every now and again but overall, I am comfortable with it. Best be, or I wouldn’t be comfortable at all.

I also don’t talk about it too much because it makes people angry for me. And I’m not angry. Sometimes a bit melancholy, but not angry.

While I appreciate the support and the caring intentions baked in when folks become indignant on my behalf, the anger is not right for me. Not at this point in my life.

My birth family is a group of  very good people with a much different perspective from me. We could argue about who is “right,” but the truth is, we’re both right. They are living true to their beliefs and convictions, personifying what they are confident to be true. How could I say that’s not right? It is their path–living the life that is right for them. I am living the life that is right for me.

(And very little shall that twain meet.)

Tarot Forecast Week Sept 28 2015

This week, I’d advise everyone to bake in their good intentions, but not obsess over how other people execute their own recipes.

It’s rare I get almost a whole spread of reversed cards. If one or two cards are reversed, then I’ll take that as specifically related to the message. But sometimes it happens that well over half are reversed. In that case, I will generally note it as indication the energy is very clogged and sluggish, not free flowing, and simply read the cards as being upright. Otherwise, interpretation becomes next to impossible.

However in this case, I’m reading all the reversals as the ground shaking, you know? The sense is of major shifts underway, not especially feeling steady, although steady is a VERY relative term. We also have 5 (!) Major Arcana.

Can you say “eclipse?”

The flow is pretty clear though: right off the bat, ground yourself in loving energy and good intention. Stay in the present and make your choices minute by minute, trying to be as generous as you can throughout. Step back from what doesn’t work for you and stay true to your guiding principles but don’t bother trying to micromanage anybody else. It won’t work. I’m seeing a whole lot of realignment going on. So you’ll need to stay sharp.

Monday, Crown Chakra + Three of Cups/Share the Love: Send a note or call the friend who “just popped into your head” unexpectedly. Do your part healing the world by sharing joy and kinship with those closest to you.  Don’t think that has impact? I would say, “What IS this world made of if not individual moments between individual people?” You cannot change all the moments or all the people. But you can add your light to the mix by deciding about you moments with your people. That’s really the best we’ve got.

[bctt tweet=”Be the love you want to see, in your own life and in the world. #quotes “]

Tuesday, Two of Wands/Spread Your Wings & The Lovers/Love: I didn’t realize I’d drawn an extra card for today until I was ready to read ’em, so I’m running with it. We’re talking about choice and growth–both the Two of Wands and the Lovers are cards of choice. So I’d expect choice to appear. How to make your decisions? Choose to GROW. Whatever options you have that entail growth, take that step. It’s well favored.

Wednesday, The Wheel/Flow: Don’t try to swim upstream. Stay present, in the present, and let whatever doesn’t jive with your energy just pass you on by. Primed attention of this flavor makes it possible for you to grab little bits and pieces of luck that would otherwise escape notice.

Thursday, Justice/Detach: Isn’t detachment an interesting keyword for the Justice card? True fairness and balance does require stepping back. I’m seeing this as a signal to delay making judgements or hopping into the “what’s best for everybody” fray, as you may be too close to the situation. Take a deep breath and allow details to develop while you gain perspective.

Friday, The Hierophant/Teach: Share what you know, if you have someone inclined to listen. Not so much? Then take notes. You’ll be able to go back and learn from them yourself later. Insight is available for putting together components you hadn’t quite synthesized previously.

Saturday, The Fool/Trust: Try to put worries behind you and get a change of scenery. Great day for an adventure! If you’re a workaholic, some time off is in order, if possible.

Sunday, Five of Cups/Change Focus: Of all the cards in this spread, this one is notable for being upright. It’s also one I would prefer reversed! Tendency to really be feeling a loss. Try to put it into perspective, or at least find a way to reframe it that you can feel as okay about it as possible. That’s not synthetic, or mental gymnastics. It’s choosing a more healing interpretation.

Overview/Advice, Six of Wands/Believe & Succeed: Hold tight to your faith this week, and guard the love in your heart. Does that sound funny, advising you to guard the love in your heart? Sometimes, you have to guard love to keep it intact! When someone cuts at you, when life throws you a big bundle of ouch, it can harden you and and close down heart energy. But it’s definitely a choice. I know, because I’ve seen people make the choice to grow their heart in extremely harsh circumstances. I can say with conviction, it’s not what life hands you. It’s what you do with it.

Affirmation: I am standing on the leading edge of thought. Life doesn’t just happen “at you” or “to you.” YOU are a participant. You help craft your own experience with every thought and every word. Some things we don’t control–we don’t write the headlines. We don’t decide who lives and who dies. But we do decide what we say and do, how we look at the world. Let your heart and your love lead you and you won’t go far wrong.

How you doing out there?

Choose Peace. Weekly Tarot Flow, Mar 30 – Apr 5

I’ve had a really, really difficult time getting this forecast written. My blogging software has eaten it multiple times now. The browser even crashed when I started to write it online. Makes me kind of wonder.

Is that an omen?

BooBut I’m really trying. And I’m not giving up. That’s kind of what I’m expect it’s going to take for success this week. It’s been a really long time since I’ve seen this many inverted cards, folks. Seven out of eight Tarot cards agree, it’s not going to be a smooth-flowing week. Not that I equate that with bad. I just think it’s best to be up-front here, you know?

And of course, we’ve got a Blood moon this week, a full lunar eclipse coming up April 4th, in Libra. It’s hitting my chart and I’m not sure what to expect exactly–hello, we’re talking eclipse! But it’s part of a cycle of full lunar eclipses (called a tetrad) that started back April 15, 2014, also in Libra. So you might want to think back to that time, not so much exactly what was happening then, but perhaps the processes, the changes that began around that time. This is the third in the cycle, with the final one being Sept. 27, 2015 in Scorpio.

Just a little something to be aware of.

In terms of the week coming up…I pulled cards from the Psychic Tarot Oracle to give us the topical realm, and pulled from the Tarot Nova for the forecasting bit.

Tarot-March-30-April-5-Forecast

Monday, Positive Movement Forward – The Star: Well, this is a very optimistic start for the week! I would not be surprised to hear some encouraging news or hopeful signs. Yay! Make the most out of this, folks.

Tuesday, Mental Conflict – Six of Pentacles reversed: How much generosity is appropriate? Pay your own bills before picking up someone else’s tab. It’s helpful to remember which problems are legitimately your own to solve and judge what you can offer while still feeling joyful.  Another way this energy to could materialize is in the question, how much can you overlook? I’m inclined to suggest “benefit of a doubt,” provided that option won’t put you in a perilous position. Realize that objectively “knowing” another’s motivations isn’t always important. Sometimes, we may choose to assume the best simply because it’ doesn’t cost us to do so, and we’re happier that way. Be pragmatic and assume the best if it doesn’t cost you to do so.

Wednesday, the Universe – Wheel of Fortune reversed: If it looks like bad luck, try to consider it in a broader context. Don’t let the little picture get you down, because the little picture changes frequently and quickly. Don’t think, “I cannot take any more trees falling on me!” Think, “This forest path is lovely.” Or something along those lines.

Thursday, Choose Wisely – Nine of Wands reversed: Do not be stubborn for the sake of winning. Be stubborn if it’s important to you, really matters. Let it go if not. If you hear yourself saying anything about “the principle of the thing,” you may want to reconsider. Is the principle in play pride?

Friday, Love Begins – The Hermit reversed: Do not stand on tradition today. And do not isolate. Open up your heart, and act accordingly. Be very genuine, even if (especially if) your version of genuine is not typical. You can only do this effectively if you know yourself pretty well, though. You do, right?

Saturday, Recognition and Reward – Death reversed: Happy Eclipse! Have you been to Hell and back (or made it most of the way back)? Because this looks like an acknowledgement of what you’ve learned on that trip. It’s like a whiff of transformation is in the air. Celebrate your not inconsiderable progress. It’s not quite done, but getting there.

Sunday, The Waiting Game – Ten of Wands reversed:  Release, release, release! Release attachments to “how things must be.” Release responsibility that is not yours. Release unnecessary burdens. Release unwanted physical items. Great day for a purge. You want to know, when things are going to click together? To get there from here, we’re looking to let go. That’s the key.

Overview/Advice – The Chariot reversed: Stay flexible and don’t get fixated on a specific outcome. We most likely don’t have the whole picture yet. You can know what you’re going for overall, but a good chance you wouldn’t recognize the final form at this point, you know?

Affirmation – “Shanti: I am the angel of peace. I bring you new tranquility and a smoother road ahead.” I’ll take it! But yeah, in terms of making use of this as an affirmation…look for peace. Look for tranquility. This can be another exercise in letting go, in looking to see the best in people, or dismissing the worst offenders from your life. Whether you are deciding there was no ill intention or whether you dismiss someone from your life, either way you’re choosing peace. You know?

Choose peace. Every time and every place you can. Choose peace.

How’s your week looking, friends? You faring okay with the eclipses?

Serpentine! Weekly Flow Tarot, Oct. 12 – 18

Weekly Flow Tarot Oct 13 - 18

I currently find myself in a very strange position: becoming successful in a venue I had given up on. It’s something I put a huge amount of energy into several years ago, doing my absolute best to make it work, but failed to turn it into what I’d envisioned. I’d let it go and (I thought) moved on. But somehow, when I wasn’t really looking, boom! Pretty much overnight this all-but-abandoned venture is now taking off and I’m in the center of an energetic swirl.

I’m still adjusting. And you know, I probably should be celebrating, but I’m not so much. I am incredibly grateful, don’t get me wrong. I know it’s a gift and I’m not one to intentionally waste gifts. But I’m also terribly confused. This is nothing like what I imagined! There is plenty of ugly that goes with the flowers. And I honestly don’t know why it showed up in my lap. There are people so much more qualified, more deserving. Who am I? That’s what I ask myself. But for better or worse, it’s here and it’s my job to make dinner out of what’s on my plate. Us woo-woo folks get just as confused by life as everybody else. Maybe more sometimes because we straddle more than one world.

But the forecast this week? Totally smacks of that vibe. Confusing success with a side of what-the-Hell?

Because it’s that time of the year, I am pulling out the Zombie Tarot for the next few weeks. This deck being who it is, I also set the intention to only read the cards upright. Reversals in this deck are unnecessarily difficult to decode for me, so I’m reading upright. Duly noting, however, that almost all the cards stubbornly appeared reversed before I put them aright. Oy! So the week is still not easy—not surprising with the pesky Mercury rx. But we do what we can, huh?

Monday, Goal  – Ten of Cups: An optimistic start to the week, with a goal of idyllic bliss. That’s nice. Kind of wish I could end the forecast right here, huh? Unfortunately, if you get a look at the picture, chaos is not too far away and there is a zombie making progress in reaching the shore. Oops.

Tuesday, What you can Change – Four of Wands: Who has a key to “your house?” Who is in your intimate circle? Who gets invited to your party? That’s what the Four of Wands is talking about to me here. What you can change is who you open your door to and let into your psyche. Choose wisely.

Wednesday, Disappointment – Six of Wands: Since the Six of Wands is generally a card of victory and acclaim, having it paired with disappointment is an especially poignant combination. “Empty victory” comes to mind. To avoid disappointment with accomplishments, it’s a damned good idea to firmly bear in mind with what you really want to achieve. I can pretty much guarantee you, “success” looks different when you get there than it did in your head. Maybe not the main part, the meat-and-potatoes part, but the sexy, dessert, won’t-this-be-ever-so-keen-when-people-cheer-me? part. Keep your priorities foremost the whole time and you’ll know what’s up as you continue to climb the mountain.

Thursday, Problem – Three of Pentacles: We’re back to things not being as we’d planned. Life is off-script. Damn it! Work on your improv skills.

Friday, Relationship – Eight of Wands: Ah, too much going on to track! This feels somewhat frantic and confused to me. I know we’d all feel better with clear-cut, well-defined lines. Well, they ain’t there. Color pretty anyway and worry about the lines later. You’ll find them soon enough.

Saturday, What to Leave in the Past – Wheel of Fortune: I know sometimes life doesn’t work out as we’ve planned, but that doesn’t mean we’re excused from goal-setting completely. For me, the trick for effective goal setting is to focus on what I want to accomplish, the outcome more than the process. I do know the “close your eyes and hope for the best” process isn’t always advisable, though.

Sunday, Conscious Desires – The Hierophant: Oh my. This looks like a wish for somebody to just “lay it out” for us with a step-by-step how-to. I get that, I really do. But always, it’s about the individual choice. Alternatively, we could be talking an awareness of the need for alone, quiet time That would be a worthy indulgence.

Overview/AdviceQueen of Cups: Keep your emotions in check, while still honoring them. Listen to your feelings, and get quiet enough you can hear the inner voice. This looks like a week where there will be some surprises, and where staying balanced and centered requires specifically directed effort. Do I even need to say that effort is worth it?

AffirmationAqua: “Experience Peace & Calm.” Translation? Meditate! Downtime. Ground, center, devote some time to yourself and your own peace of mind.

Flexibility is key again this week. If someone shoots at you, don’t just stand wondering why on Earth they would do such a thing, when you’d never have guessed it coming. Serpentine! I have the distinct feeling those who adjust quickly, stay tuned in, and are quick to correct course when things don’t work out just so—while continuing to make rational steps towards things working out “just so”—will be the winners overall. My advice? Stay frosty and be ready to serpentine!

Damn. These cards are awfully loud and it feels like they are talking straight to me. Do you hear them talking to you, too?

Weekly Flow Tarot, May 4–10th: One Step at a Time

mayweekly 001

Welcome to my first Tarot forecast experiment, which I’m calling a “weekly flow.” I pulled a card for each day, looking at the overall flow for all of them along with the daily energy.

It looks like this week is going to demand some stamina, with solid follow-through and a dash of faith to fare the best. With over half of the cards inverted, I am expecting  impatience and frustration about slow-moving situations and the inverted cups in particular suggest the delays and frustrations can be emotionally draining at times. If you already know to expect this, you can factor it in.

Sunday, The Wheel – Be on the lookout for a lucky break today and hop on that train if it pulls up outside your door! Even if you don’t notice a specific opportunity though, do use some part of the day to do any necessary prep for the week ahead since it looks to give you a good leg up on following days. This day is the kiss of the coming week.

Monday, Queen of Swords – Stick to business and  forego editorializing in conversation. It’s liable to be misunderstood or taken too harshly. Prioritize; focus on the facts and especially the most important. Let anything irrelevant to the main objective go. Detach and rise above conflict if it doesn’t further the agenda.

Tuesday, King of Cups Rx– It’s looking squishy today!  You may have some of those messy ol’ feelings, about which there is absolutely nothing to do. Potential for self-pity or someone arriving with a sob story looking to divert you from your better judgment. Set aside major decisions until your emotional mojo is refilled. Chocolate would probably help… (But then again, I always think chocolate will help.)

Wednesday, Four of Wands Rx – Potential for cranky housemates or feelings of isolation and alienation in general. Cleaning (with the intention of evicting stale, disruptive energy along with grime) will help considerably. Order in your surroundings makes a big difference. I do mean literally and in every sense of the concept. If you get an email that bothers you, clean out your inbox. If it’s an argument in the kitchen, do the dishes. If you feel bothered at work, organize desk drawers. If you can find a physical action that’s symbolic of the bother, that’s even better. Follow up with adding something special to the space—a rock, a plant, a pillow, whatever that symbolizes being “at home” again.

Thursday, Queen of Wands – You’ve got this! You’ve made it through most of the week. The capacity to get your $*%$ done is in high gear. You have access to creative solutions and nobody’s getting one over on you. Be confident and bold!

Friday, Ace of Cups Rx – Damn, this looks like tired to me! Great day for a little escaping into music, a movie, a good book or even a nap. Eat well and rest. Exhale.

Saturday, Five of Pentacles Rx – It’s like the stressors you haven’t had time to process so far sink in. Don’t wait for others to know you could use some support or skip the asking, assuming there is none to be had. Reach out for what you need, or offer it to others if you are not in need. You’re not on your own today with whatever’s weighing you down unless you insist on being on your own.

The affirmation for this week: “I trust the process of life.”

Despite the demands and emotional blips, what needs to happen is happening. Stay present, stay optimistic, and stay on task. All materializes at the right pace. You got this…

So what do you think?

08/25/13: Recipe for Happy Relationships / 6 Cups, Wheel of Fortune, King Cups

As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live. –Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

6-of-cups-king-wheel-of-fortune-tarot-transparent

Emotionally satisfying connections are not just a stroke of luck.

The Transparent Tarot shows a formula. Luck (the Wheel of Fortune) is built through trust (the Six of Cups)—which requires both emotional sharing (Tarot Cups), cooperative and harmonious relations (Tarot Sixes). You have to be trustworthy as well as take the risk yourself. You give what you’d like to receive, give of yourself emotionally.

The Wheel blesses the interaction, leading us to the King of Cups—he lives outwardly (Tarot Kings) in accordance with his heart (Tarot Cups). Being a king, he impacts those in his kingdom. That little leap of faith—trusting and being trustworthy—amplifies blessings for many.

Does trust come easily to you?
