08/14/11: En Route, Still… | Three of Wands Reversed

“In spite of everything I shall rise again: I will take up my pencil, which I have forsaken in my great discouragement, and I will go on with my drawing.” Vincent Van Gogh

Often failure comes from giving up too soon, more a lack of flexibility rather than lack of ability.

wands03sToday’s Tarot forecast is the Three of Wands reversed or Lord of Established Strength, associated with Aries Sun. I think of it as  “waiting for your ship to come in.” I do sometimes see this card for literally expecting a package.

But more often, it’s about having put effort and energy into an enterprise, being at the point where you’re looking to see if your efforts will pay off. This is not a passive waiting to receive, like the High Priestess. It’s more an expectation, for direct results of efforts to bear fruit.

Tarot Threes are creative, giving birth to new directions and Wands are the Fire element, so it’s been an active process. Tarot Nova’s minimalist artwork gives us an interesting perspective—reversed, I’d ask if you are taking a long-term view? Or are you becoming impatient and antsy, wanting to force the issue? The pen suggests you’ve been writing the future, even if you weren’t fully aware of it.

Perhaps concerns at this point aren’t so much an indication of failure as not seeing far enough ahead, discounting what you’ve already put out there as unimportant. It’s not.

The reversed Three of Wands reminds me to be patient and more, to give myself credit for the foundation I’ve built! Even if that ship doesn’t pull in exactly on schedule with exactly the cargo I’d expected, I know it is my ship IS coming and there is something of value on it for me. Got to keep the faith I’ll figure out what to do with it.

Are you watching for any ships?

Everyday Tarot, 07/21/11: Cows, on the Way Home | Knight Swords, 3 Wands, 6 Wands

Doesn’t it just feel like the current questions we’re looking at, have been this way…almost forever? I wanted a little extra today, so I pulled a 3-card spread. They all came in reversed–the Knight of Swords, Three of Wands and Six of Wands, but I turned ’em over to photograph. And to loosen up the flow, too, because I will that, as I flip the card. No, really. I do.

Ah, lots of motion. See the horses? We’ve got the idea, clearly, had it for some time, and have determined what we want to keep versus what to cut. And, you know, we’ve been acting in concert with that, making a sincere effort to work it.

cows-coming-homeTarot’s says, “Chill. I know it’s a stabby time and I know you’ve been working hard, without yet seeing the impact you expected. Flow is coming. Just keep watching for your turns; they become clear as you approach. Attention, along with the support of friends, sees you through.”

The cows are on their way home. Whoopee!

Is that what you see, or something else?

Everyday Tarot, 07/10/11: You’re Not Missing Anything | 3 Wands Rev, 2 Pentacles

daily-tarot-forecastI used to say, “I wouldn’t trade my problems for anything. They made me who I am.” Generally,  I still feel that way. But it doesn’t mean I never get disgusted with my problems, either.

Today’s Tarot forecast turned up an inverted Three of Wands (Lord of Established Strength/ Aries Sun—don’t wait around, resting on your laurels. Aries doesn’t approve. Ok. So what, then?

I asked for a little more to go on, and got the Two of Pentacles (Lord of Harmonious Change/Jupiter in Capricorn). Luck (Jupiter) comes from responsibly(Saturn)  managing your resources (Saturn).

We may be eternal energy, but we’re living in physical bodies. Physical bodies have a finite amount of energy to spend. So where do you want  your energy to go?

You can be mad, hurt, despondent—about whatever you haven’t gotten, what’s missing or wrong. But no matter how long you wait, how much energy you spend, it won’t bring what you’ve been denied into your life. Holding on enhances the sense of loss.

Still, those feelings are often a sign of healing. Only when we can begin to imagine ourselves with the life we long for does the disparity become so acute.   Before we can feel it as a possibility, it’s not a possibility.

And if we can’t create the exact circumstances we’d like, right this minute? Well, maybe we could juggle with the feelings we’d like to cultivate instead. We can rearrange the furniture we’ve got to make it better reflect the environment we want to live in, y’know? Maybe we can’t make ourselves instantaneously well, but we could probably help ourselves become healthier, feel better. We can’t change how others behave, but we can sure change how we interact.

And for all those things you didn’t get? Don’t worry. What you haven’t had colors your experience as much as what you have. Your specific journey, your particular set of experiences, gives you a specific skillets. Who knows what wonderful things you may decide to do with the tools you’ve earned through hardship? If you’re not tapping them now, consider it—fertilize some flowers from that poo pile!

Do you have skills forged from adversity?

Everyday Tarot, 05/24/11: Want vs. Need /Inverted 3 of Wands

daily-tarot-forecast-inverted-three-wands-new-visionsLife has a way of turning things upside down in ways we could never have imagined, left to our own devices. Why, just a month ago, I would never have guessed I’d be over here at A Fool’s Journey, working on making this place a real home for myself and the seekers who drop in, you know? But then, there it is. Things change. It’s just one bullet point on a very long list of bits and pieces of my life that turned out drastically different from how I’d  planned. Welcome to reality, Dixie!

Today’s Tarot Forecast is the inverted Three of Wands, or Lord of Established Strength, associated with the Aries sun. Tarot threes indicate creativity and dynamic changes—the energy that’s been invested here is about to bear fruit. I always think of “waiting for one’s ship to come in” when I see this card, except it’s not a passive thing. He knows the ship is coming because he chartered it himself! Inverted, I’d expect delays or disappointment in the cargo.

I often don’t get what I want. But when I look deep down, I realize I do better than just getting the prize I was aiming for, even when I don’t get what I want. Instead, I may collect knowledge, wisdom and skills from the “failed ventures.” I grow.

If you have done the work to get where you are, and remain open to whatever lessons exist in that creation, you still may not get what you want. Many times, we just don’t. But there’s also a very good possibility you’ll get what you need. Of the two, that’s far more valuable. I’ll take it, gratefully.

Are you getting what you want, or what you need? Or maybe a little of both?
