02/08/12: Get some backup | 2 of Pentacles

“The world cannot be governed without juggling.” John Selden

He stands in front of the sea, deftly juggling his two pentacles. The seas are a little choppy—there’s emotion in the background, but it stays there. His focus is on maintaining his circumstance.

That’s Today’s Tarot, the Two of Pentacles (Jupiter in Capricorn). He’s got big (Jupiter) responsibilities (Capricorn). They take his attention.

I generally see this fellow when we’re taxed with keeping everything going, and not a lot of breathing room for anything else. It’s working, energies are balanced right now, but it would be easy enough to drop one of those coins. If a strong wind comes up, it could easily blow one of ’em away.

When you see the Two of Pentacles, look for backup. Get some help, buy insurance, reconnect with friends—address whatever is on your mind by looking to add to your options list. Do what you can to shore yourself up in case of bad weather.

Do you have good backup?

12/05/11: Get some help! | 2 of Pentacles, Rev High Priestess

Today’s Tarot is the Two of Pentacles (Jupiter in Capricorn) and the High Priestess (Moon). If you’re feeling overwhelmed (and you quite likely are), don’t hesitate to ask for help, renegotiate your responsibilities, prioritize or otherwise address the situation. Just don’t sit there—do something about it!

You’ll find emotional costs if you don’t deal with the overwhelm. And seriously? It’s no secret, even if you think it is. So the brave face routine won’t cut it. Sometimes, handling yourself means looking for support. Don’t keep putting it off. If you wait until the balls start dropping, it has a price.

Are you feeling overwhelmed?

08/18/11: Procrastination in a Pretty Dress | Knight of Pentacles, Ace of Wands, Two of Pentacles

transparent-tarotI’ve said before, “Perfectionism is just procrastination in a pretty dress.” For my Virgo at least, that’s proven true. But it’s not like you can’t have some of both. It’s a good idea to find that middle ground, the “sweet spot” between careful planning and instant, impulsive action. Neither serves so well in isolation.

Everyday Tarot, 07/30/11: Through Rocky Waters

Non-refundable ticket.

Chaos: we’ve got it! Disruption, confusion, and upheaval, complicated by the responsibility of keeping it all in check (because it impacts more than just the individual), not to mention aiming to function throughout. There’s no doubt something useful or important can be salvaged from this mess before it’s all over, but it’s damn hard to feel the lighter side right now. Sorry!

We’ve got the Two of Pentacles, The Tower and the Chariot on the left—it’s been a strain, trying to hold it all together, you know? The realization that a completely intact building doesn’t collapse is of little solace when you’ve been living in that building and didn’t want to move! Forces are pulling in opposing directions, amplifying the amount of control required to divide energy.

mystical--riverThe Lovers teams with the Six of Swords on the right. The Six of Swords is a card of insight, but it’s not a “High Priestess” flavor of deep, intuitive knowing. The Six of Swords perspective is hard-won, every shred of understanding well earned and paid for in full. The Lovers clue us in that this journey isn’t in search of balance between opposing forces, but to the space where you give what you can marry all the energy into a more unified whole, better reflecting your strength, values and intention. We’re traveling through the rocky waters in a boat full of sharp swords in search of harmony…

It’s no longer about who wins and who loses, fairness over who carries whom. It’s about finding that sweet spot, accepting weakness without judgment, but simultaneously building on and acting in concert with strengths. Lack of rancor does not equal stagnation. To get there, you must be willing to redefine the landscape. Travel plans have to remain flexible to incorporate changes of itinerary as you integrate and process the experience.

It’s not exactly a cushy ride. But it is a necessary and important trip. So make the best of it, okay?

Everyday Tarot, 07/10/11: You’re Not Missing Anything | 3 Wands Rev, 2 Pentacles

daily-tarot-forecastI used to say, “I wouldn’t trade my problems for anything. They made me who I am.” Generally,  I still feel that way. But it doesn’t mean I never get disgusted with my problems, either.

Today’s Tarot forecast turned up an inverted Three of Wands (Lord of Established Strength/ Aries Sun—don’t wait around, resting on your laurels. Aries doesn’t approve. Ok. So what, then?

I asked for a little more to go on, and got the Two of Pentacles (Lord of Harmonious Change/Jupiter in Capricorn). Luck (Jupiter) comes from responsibly(Saturn)  managing your resources (Saturn).

We may be eternal energy, but we’re living in physical bodies. Physical bodies have a finite amount of energy to spend. So where do you want  your energy to go?

You can be mad, hurt, despondent—about whatever you haven’t gotten, what’s missing or wrong. But no matter how long you wait, how much energy you spend, it won’t bring what you’ve been denied into your life. Holding on enhances the sense of loss.

Still, those feelings are often a sign of healing. Only when we can begin to imagine ourselves with the life we long for does the disparity become so acute.   Before we can feel it as a possibility, it’s not a possibility.

And if we can’t create the exact circumstances we’d like, right this minute? Well, maybe we could juggle with the feelings we’d like to cultivate instead. We can rearrange the furniture we’ve got to make it better reflect the environment we want to live in, y’know? Maybe we can’t make ourselves instantaneously well, but we could probably help ourselves become healthier, feel better. We can’t change how others behave, but we can sure change how we interact.

And for all those things you didn’t get? Don’t worry. What you haven’t had colors your experience as much as what you have. Your specific journey, your particular set of experiences, gives you a specific skillets. Who knows what wonderful things you may decide to do with the tools you’ve earned through hardship? If you’re not tapping them now, consider it—fertilize some flowers from that poo pile!

Do you have skills forged from adversity?

Everyday Tarot, 06/01/11: Rev. Two of Pentacles and Fixing Scattered Focus

Yesterday, we got a repeat of my first Everyday Tarot draw. Today, we got a repeat of my second Everyday Tarot draw, just a month after starting. Sounds like the two of these cards may want to be considered together, huh? That’s what occurs to me, so like normal, I’m running with it!

Today’s Tarot forecast is (again) the inverted Two of Pentacles or “Lord of Harmonious Change,” associated with Jupiter (too much) in Capricorn (responsibility)!

Looking at Elemental Dignitaries, Earth (Pentacles) is not friendly to Air (Swords). They weaken one another’s impact. Having both cards reversed would also suggest blocked energy.

If you’re questioning what’s keeping you from winning (inverted 5 of Swords), here, I’d say it’s trying to do too much at once (inverted 2 of Pentacles).

If I wanted to improve this site for example, I could add this and that and the other thing and try be be all things to all people, essentially scattering my energy all hither and yon.

Or I could focus on doing one or two things at a time, as well as I know how to do them. The accumulation of energy is much tighter, allowing for greater impact in the areas I’m addressing.

In terms of selecting where to focus, I’m sticking with “What do you hope to accomplish?” That idea can become like a mission statement, allowing you to weigh every action or inaction on that scale. (Excuse me—my Virgo is showing.)

Mission accomplished, Tarot—you pointed out my scattered energy. I’ll work on that. (Virgo joke.) P.S. I know I’m not the only one with the Gemini vibe today.

Is your energy scattered? How might you reign it in for more concentrated results?
