01/09/13: Whatever road you take… | 7 Cups & Star

“A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it.” Jean de La Fontaine

7cupsstar

The Seven of Cups is associated with Venus in Scorpio—it shows us the underbelly (Scorpio) of our desire (Venus). But true to the Star’s egalitarian brand of hope for the future, in the end? It doesn’t matter so much which cup you choose. The lessons you have to learn, they’ll be the same in the long run.

Some may go down easier or harder based on your choices, so know that. The better you know your own shadow side, your own weakness and peccadillos and issues, the easier it is to avoid pain in your choices.

But the bigger lessons? They’ll keep coming back until you’ve got it down, man.

Whatever road you take will lead you to the future!

12/01/11: Rethinking Business as Usual | 8 of Pentacles, 7 of Cups

"It is the service we are not obliged to give that people value most."James Cash Penney

Having more than a smidge of Virgo, I fall very easily into a role of service. It’s natural and comfortable for me. I get tremendous satisfaction from helping! It’s what I’m built for, so it’s often win-win. But there are times when I overdo, and find it makes others uncomfortable if it’s too one-sided. They feel guilty, or perhaps feel less capable in the face of having too much piled on that silver platter I’m bustling about filling up. Or I can get frustrated, with the workload, not making an impact, or otherwise feeling out of balance.  That’s the time to rethink business as usual.

Man, didn’t we just see these cards? Today’s Tarot forecast is the Eight of Rainbows (Pentacles), or Ordinariness, and the Seven of Water (Cups), or Projection from the sometimes blunt Osho Zen deck. Here, I see encouragement to do a gut check on what you consider your responsibility and what you consider not to be yours. In the heart of a Mercury Rx cycle, revisiting and reevaluating are never bad ideas.

What is YOUR job? In relationships, in living, in your inner circle, what responsibilities do you routinely take on? Are you the catalyst, the fixer, the person who says what others are thinking, or the one that cleans up the mess? Are each of the jobs still appropriate, fitting to who you are now and best served by your continuing? Or do you sometimes act out of expired expectations—either your own or someone else’s?

Don’t assume what you see is the same as what everyone else does. Your thoughts and perception filters your interpretation of the facts. What you take for granted may not be seen the same by everyone else. Feelings change over time. So before you martyr yourself (or start backhanding wantonly), review to determine what is actually wanted, needed, and in everyone’s highest interests. Look deep down, and what you see could surprise you—even change your definition of standard practice.

Are you comfortable with your responsibilities and service?

11/06/11: Digging into Choices | Seven of Cups

not-as-it-appears

"Freewill means that the Universe never judges, never interferes with your own choices – and sees you as a being of equal creative power." –Joy Page

Some of the hardest and most worthwhile things I’ve done, after the fact I wondered, "Had I known, what all this really entailed, would I have made the same choices?" I’m not sure I would have! In that light, I’m kind of glad I didn’t always know. I did know, enough, however, to follow what spoke to me the clearest. That, I think, remains a saving grace.

Today’s Tarot is the Seven of Cups or Lord of Illusory Success, associated with Venus in Scorpio—dark (Scorpio) loves (Venus) are suggested.

The man here is choosing, between many appealing options. But is everything what it appears? The cup with the victory wreath has a skull on it. Everything he expected, and more? The snake may lie. Is that his inner light glowing under the cloth, or his self-undoing? Will the riches make him happy? Will that dragon protect him, or eat him alive? Care is in order, making this choice.

Your safeguard here lies in digging deep (Scorpio) to define your desire (Venus). Don’t go for the superficial. Sometimes, that’s just a veneer. Know what you most value, and use that as the yardstick. Make sure you stay in line, with WHO you are, who you want to be, and not the expected outcome of the choice. Focus on being present fully as an individual, and the outcome can’t go far wrong.

Have you found recent choices to be what the appear?

Everyday Tarot, 06/20/11: Productive Upsets

rev-seven-cups-tarot-forecastSometimes, spectacular failure leads to an even more spectacular successes. But I’d never know at the time, too busy crying over the mess. Surprises are still available as long as the curtain hasn’t closed. It’s not really over until that fat lady has sung, exited the stage and gone home, man.

Today’s Tarot forecast is the inverted Seven of Cups or “Lord of Illusionary Success,” associated with Venus in Scorpio. This is the “not all that glitters is gold” card of choices. Inverted, it may serve as reminder to let our emotions flow—upsets are possible, yes, but do know, what seems tragic at first blush may be a blessing and vice versa.

Feelings about the various options run deep, and things may not be going the way you’d like. Don’t stress it. There may be intense moments, but love the depth of understanding that comes from letting the details flesh themselves out.

The inverted Seven of Cups warns us not to draw hasty conclusion, and not to assume that what feels bad now will be bad in the long run. Just let the feeling come and go, and keep your eyes adjusted upward—that’s where you want to go, right?

You riding out upsets?

Everyday Tarot, 05/22/11: Believing What You Want / 7 of Cups

daily-tarot-forecast-seven-cupsI used to work in detox, and before that, a decade in mental health. I’ve had some education, training and plenty of experience dealing with all kinds of issues, substance abuse in particular.

But it wasn’t until I had to deal with it in my own family that I fully realized the power of denial. I used to marvel at the cluelessness “detox moms”–until I was one. Funny how much that can change, and how fast. Even having every advantage in identifying the signs, and it still took me forever to figure out.  I didn’t want it to be true hard enough to block it from getting in.
