Strength: All in Your Head

Many associate strength with might–numbers, stature, ability to enforce. I know, that’s how the word is commonly used.

But I don’t think of strength that way at all.

I consider the trait of strength to be personal, individual. So it couldn’t be reliant on outside conditions (e.g. who is biggest) or firepower–it’s not “strength” to be holding the biggest gun. That’s a condition that can change, no doubt about it!

But an inner calmness, a solid rooting in what’s important to you, and holding fast to it? That’s strength, to me at least.

Strength doesn’t need others to agree. Insecurity does. Strength doesn’t need to justify or defend. That’s uncertainty. Strength doesn’t need to struggle, because strength isn’t fighting against anything.

Strength just stands tall, and sure, being true to self above all else.

Strength, from the Zombie Tarot. Because, October.

The “Zombie Protection” bullets here aren’t loaded into a gun. The biggest bullet is shown superimposed on the brain. Get that? Your brain is really your best protector.

Strength doesn’t come from the outside. Like everything else, it’s an inside job. Strength is just knowing, and holding steady to the knowing.

Strength is not measured in force. It's measured in steadiness. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

It’s a good time to harness your strength–call upon your sense of conviction, your beliefs about what’s right, your love for yourself and others to tap into that steady, solid, dependable stream of inner strength. A light touch is all you need–steady, light, sure. That’s the vibration of strength and it will serve you well not only next week.

What’s strength, to you?

Glorious Singularity: Tarot, Oct 24 – 30, 2016

The last several weeks, I’m seeing a theme in the forecasts–or maybe? The theme is in my head, my experience. But either way, it’s a valid theme.

Focus on your own life and let others live theirs. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

Even if you think the others are crazy or stupid or deluded or clueless or careless or just out-and-out wrong. Be YOU, regardless of what others are being or doing.

I’m beginning to think, this message is why I’m here. My intention for this incarnation, is to spread the message of following your own path without judging or pushing against anybody else’s path.

Why else would I be so gloriously and singularly weird, spending so much of my time hoping to inspire others to be true to their own glorious singularity?

Sometimes we think the world would be better if everybody agreed with us. But that’s not true. The diversity–including the bits we don’t like–make for a much richer experience. Even the ugliness inspires desire for better. Everything inspires desire for better.

Our job is not to get others to conform. Our job is not to conform. Our job is to be true to ourselves, singularly. And that is more than enough. It’s glorious.

Audio Version of the Weeks Forecast

The Zombie Tarot deck loves repeats. Zombies like to shuffle. Get it?

Funny but true.

Lots of Court Cards this week, which tells us personalities will play a big role in events. A fair number of reversals–some of the expressions of personality that have impact will not be conscious behavior. There is still a lot of delusion, lies, and harsh words out there but it’s not too hard to dodge. Just pay attention to yourself and you bypass 98% of the BS and feel better in the process. Also understand, we definitely are ending the week on a high note. So traveling on the high road pays off!

Monday, Queen of Swords Rx: Be aware of your words. Don’t be in a hurry to cut someone off–in traffic, in words, in deeds, from your life, whatever. Take your time. The Queen of Swords cuts ties swiftly in general. Reversed, she can be a bit hasty. So if you’re getting the urge. set it aside for a minute. Put it on the back burner and wait, okay?

Tuesday, Seven of Pentacles Rx: This energy feels impatient, just like yesterday. All things are developing over time as appropriate. Just chill. Just because you cannot see all the progress doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Take a chill pill and all will be well.

Wednesday, Seven of Cups: The world should go home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html. It’s drunk. Confused. There’s an irrationality going around. Don’t buy into it–or fight against it, which is a lesser-known way of buying into it. And don’t go drink without a designated driver. Don’t try to fight the distortion. Let it roll over you and pass on by. This really works best. You cannot fight waves, but you can be solid and let them wash over you or you can float atop them. Those that bend will not break.

Thursday, Death: Yesterday’s distortion and upheaval from earlier this week (and before) will come to a culmination. Rotten, the not right, will be exposed. The jig is up! I don’t know what jig we’re talking. But it’s up anywho! On an individual level–stick to what you know and don’t try to control others. Just let it be.

Friday, Knight of Pentacles: Attend to the details and be meticulous. Focus on you, let your neighbors do whatever they are doing. Care for your OWN details and leave the rest.

Saturday, Knight of Swords Rx: Don’t blurt angry words, even if you have to stuff your mouth with Fritos to avoid it. Be kind with your words! The world needs kindness, you need kindness, and it just feels better for everybody.

Sunday, Six of Wands: Love wins. Kindness wins. Joy wins. All the love you’ve planted earlier this week blooms like a beautiful garden. This is an awesome day so enjoy it!

Overview/Advice, King of Pentacles Rx: Don’t try to clean up your neighbors yard or fix anybody else’s issues. Focus this week, eyes on your on paper, clean up your own room, tidy up your own life. Looking for other people’s problems is a fancy way of avoiding your own life. Stay in your own lane, keep your own house in order and let other people handle theirs. You have enough resources for yourself. Use them for yourself.

Affirmation: I am safe in the Universe. All life loves and supports me. It really IS all right. Some of what people are upset and freaking out about? It’s okay. It’s going to be okay. Yes, there are jerks out there but life is okay. All will be fine!

Take care, stay clear, be happy! Are you feeling your glorious singularity?

Freedom Via Perspective: Weekly Tarot, October 17 – 23, 2016

I had a meltdown last week. And I’m thinking what I learned from it, will come in handy this upcoming week.

It was over my butterfly bush.

I planted this bush years ago and it grew and grew and grew, crazy big. I let the morning glory vines run amok over it. The butterflies and hummingbirds and bees ate from the blooms. I kept birdseed in the bush, and scattered seed down in front. This bush became a haven for the local wildlife. It gave me some privacy (along with the tree that sprouted up next to it) oh, the smell of those delicate lavender blooms in the breeze!

butterflybush

Wild and untamed. Just like me.

I adored that butterfly bush and pretty much every day sat outside and admired it. I was even planning on, come time to move, taking a whole bunch of branches so I could plant baby butterfly bushes wherever I ended up. My lovely bush’s children! See, I had this figured out.

I’m not kidding, by the way. I’d discussed this with the bush.

So when my landlady stopped by to tell me she needed to “trim it away from the house.” I winced, knowing she’d take way too much. But you know, what are you gonna do?

"Trimmed."

“Trimmed.”

When I later went outside to survey the damage, I expected to be unhappy. I didn’t expect the empty space that greeted me. She killed the bush and the tree next to it and pretty much everything else, excepting a cluster of random flowers that had migrated a couple years ago and a pathetic little shrub I’d never cared for much.

I freaked the Hell out. I cried for two days after and–though I’m not proud of it–became hysterical when the landlady came over to “smooth things over” after the fact, suggesting I should buy a bench to put on the pile of mostly empty rocks.

It was not pretty.

Of course, I eventually did what one does when they’re upset about anything. I looked for ways to feel better.

I bought a shepherd’s hook, and some colorful and butterfly-friendly flowers (in pots!) to help fill that space. And while it’s certainly not the same and it will take a while to rebuild my wildlife oasis, it IS much more cheery than the rocks and it did make me feel a lot better. I can now look over there without feeling upset.

20161005_153415_hdr

And once I started feeling better, I realized it’s not the bush itself that gave me so much joy. That’s what I first thought, in grieving the bush. But it’s not true.

When the landlady looked at the bush, she saw an unkempt mess growing too close to the building and making the property look run down. I get that. Whereas I saw this beautiful, wild hunk of nature that fed birds and butterflies and ME.

But it was the exact same bush we were looking at. It wasn’t that one of us was right and the other wrong. It wasn’t the bush itself that gave me so much joy (or her so much frustration). It was how we thought about that bush, shaping feelings around it.

It was specifically my love and appreciation for that bush that gave me such great joy. The love and appreciation came from ME. It grew in my heart, not in front of my house.

The bush was my excuse to feel good, sure. And it was easy to use it that way. But I can love and appreciate anything! My capacity for love cannot be cut down with a chainsaw. I can love and appreciate new flowers, new bird feeders, and the opportunity to learn more about how to attract wildlife I enjoy so much. Happiness doesn’t come from butterfly bushes, even ones so majestic as mine was.

Appreciation isn't born from circumstance. It's from how you think about circumstance. Click To Tweet

All feelings are like that. It’s not outside conditions that determine happiness. It’s how you feel about those conditions. And how you feel about those conditions is driven by how you think about those conditions. You have control over what you’re thinking.

Do you realize how much pure, unadulterated freedom there is in knowing that? Use that insight. Don’t let my butterfly bush die in vain!

Audio Version of Forecast

We’ve got lots of Cups and Swords this week. Expect for emotion to run high in the beginning of the week particularly, and strong potential for conflict afoot. So let’s see how we can get you through this as intact and as happy as possible!

Monday, Five of Wands: A contentious start. There are plenty of things people are fighting about. It’s out there. But is is something you want to engage in? Sure, you can. But does it help and does it make you happy? Just know you can either engage or not. Personally? I’m gonna go hide from it all and dig on my flowers. But what you do is up to you.

Tuesday, The Moon: Lies out there. Lies, lies, lies. You may be hearing the lies or be tempted to tell the lies. But reality is blurry today. I’d suggest to keep yourself on the straight and narrow, honesty-wise. You can use this flavor of energy constructively for creative projects, old fashioned escapism like good novels, movies, or art. Anything Neptune-ish. A nice bath will wash away a lot! Good nap day, too. Get plenty of sleep.

Wednesday, Ace of Cups: A touch emotional and a little raw. Not overwhelming, but a little raw. So tread lightly and be kind, starting with yourself and working your way out.

Thursday, Five of Cups Rx: This energy is a little lighter reversed but still not super fun. There is a feeling of being let down or disappointment.  To deal with it, stick to what you know is right and feels okay to you and don’t worry about anybody else. Not like you control that anyway. But give yourself permission to focus on you. Manage your own feelings.

Friday, King of Cups: Emotional maturity is the order of the day. Be kind, generous and compassionate. Which always starts in the mirror with yourself, period. Not a battle day. More a supportive circle of people kind of day. Either do it for others or hang with those who do it for you.

Saturday, Five of Swords: Contentious energy. While the Five of Wands (Monday) is the fight, this is the victor emerging from argument. On a personal level, it’s really going to be about how emotionally attached you are a particular outcome. If you feel emotionally defeated, realize it’s a FEELING based on your thoughts, not a REALITY based on the hard and fast. You have control over thoughts.

Sunday, Hermit Rx: Mix alone and social time. Don’t completely withdraw to your cave. Spend some time for you, some time interacting, which will make the best day.

Overview/Advice, Queen of Wands Rx: Avoid stubbornness and controlling tendencies. This Queen Rx can be a control freak. Other people’s issues? BUTT OUT! Life will go a whole lot better that way.

Affirmation: I love life. There is a lot of struggle and strife right out our windows right now. You decide whether you sit and stare out the window, whether you go outside and engage in the fighting, or whether you pull down the shades and turn on a movie. Focus on what makes you happy, your intentions, desires, needs and wants. Let the world deal with their own needs and issues. It’s not your job to fix the world! But you can help–by improving your experience. The collective is nothing more than individuals doing their part. You want a happy world? You do your part by turning on your happiness. Each person, doing their own thing in their own lives, inspiring by their example, is how collective change is born. So be that person.

How are you doing staying in your own lane?

Precise Shot – Tarot October 10 – 16, 2016

My husband and I play Dungeons and Dragons on the computer together.

Some of the projectile weapons in the game have an enhancement called “Precise Shot.” That means the shot hits only who it’s aimed at. No collateral damage.

It’s the kind of thing you may not think about, before you run into that. But not hitting anybody but who you’re aiming at often has a lot of advantages.

That would be handy in real life.

This coming week? We could use some precise shot on our words.

weekly tarot forecast

Audio Version of this week’s forecast.

Lots of Swords, so be aware of communications, potential for ouch factor. Contention may be a thing. Sharp assessments and sharp words. So watch your words! And don’t take sharp words from others to heart.

Mud aimed AT you is never ABOUT you. #OnMyRadar Click To Tweet

Monday, Eight of Pentacles: Just keep pluggin’ and do your thing. Think progress, not completion. One step at a time. A little here, a little more, a little more is how it gets done so keep hammering, slow and sure.

Tuesday, Wheel of Fortune rx:  What seems like a bad break may not be. Go with the flow and accept both what looks good and what looks not good as just part of the cycle. Don’t fixate on a single situation thinking it must work out a certain way for your world to feel “okay.” Understand this is the way the world flows. Just roll with it, man.

Wednesday, Four of Swords: It’s okay to take a breather. The world will not implode if you take the night off. Plan some recoup time today and it will serve you well.

Thursday, Queen of Swords: Be judicious with your words and be very clear. Carefully chosen words will keep you from implying more than you mean to say. Don’t script for others. But to make your words most effective, be sparing with them. That will help you reach your objectives.

Friday, Seven of Pentacles: Recognize where you are in the bigger cycle. The progress you’ve been making adds up and factors are lining up. We’re at a waiting phase, while seeds gestate.

Saturday, Knight of Swords rx: Tendency to blurt, speak impulsive. Understand people may be over communicative in a number of ways, so be ready to step back to keep yourself centered. Not a great day for signing contracts so don’t be in a hurry. Let it rest before finalizing.

Sunday, King of Swords rx: Let the dust settle before diving into action.  May have urges to “do something” but you’d be better advise to go slow and easy.

Overview/Advice, Three of Wands: The week in general feels like there’s a lot of gestation, n0t culmination. So be patient, with yourself and circumstances. Continue to expect things to work out fine and they are, so long as you stay out of the way. Staying out of the way is your job right now.

Affirmation: Everything I touch is a success. While it may not initially feel this way, you can see success if you take a longer view. If you see yourself as here for the experience, the learning and the joy, then everything you look at will show itself in that context. Even if the experience is very negative, it can still contribute to your success in many ways. Just like someone coming out of a bad relationship is more focused than ever on having a better relationship the next time around (and value it much more as well).

“I am where I am. It’s fine where I’m am. I’m doing what I need to be and I’m learning what I need to be learning. All is well.”

That attitude will serve you well. Take your time. Don’t be in a hurry to respond or fight. Step back, take care of yourself and take your time. That will move you through the week intact and you’ll be pleased to realize you’ve made some progress even if it didn’t feel like it at the time.

Are your words landing the way you’ve meant?

Lovingly Uncompromising. Weekly Tarot Forecast, Oct. 26 – Nov 1, 2016

Thor the Warrior Kitten just has a knack for finding the center of action.

I really hope y’all are not getting sick of kitten pictures with the weekly cards. He’s not a seasoned enough reader to help much yet, but his heart is in it.

And the heart is totally the star of the show next week. So there you go!

IMG_4536

You now that space in time where you know in your heart something you really want to do, something that is important and meaningful to you but it’s scary? It’s like…putting yourself out there, naked. Not your image. Not your mirage. But YOU, the real you?

It could be something little or something big, from anyone else’s perspective. But it’s a big deal to you, it lives in your soul, a dream that’s itching to break free from the world of ideas into the world of manifest reality.

Maybe you wonder…What if everybody laughed, and not in a good way? What if I fail? What if my closely held dream turned to dust instead of reality? What would I hold onto then?

It won’t always work out. But reaching out in the direction of your heart? Never, ever a mistake.

We’ve got several Major Arcana on deck this week and a notable preponderance of Wands – so action is favored with the understanding that action will have lasting impact. You ready?

Tarot_8_StrengthMonday, Just Breathe, Strength: The topical card of “Just Breathe” suggests anxiety but better, a way to address it. Few actions ground better than breathing. And to pair it with the Strength card is a perfect match. One wonderful thing about the Strength card is that it’s universally accessible energy. You don’t have to have some kind of superhuman power to access it. The traditional version shows a woman taming a lion with little more than her infinite patience and purity of heart to keep her on track. If you’re feeling hit here, or have an obstacle to overcome–go right to the core of the matter with gentle, steady attention. Maintaining boundaries and especially not getting flustered will serve you well.

Tuesday, Change Your Focus, The World: What really counts? This is a big-picture day. Let small annoyances roll off your back and focus instead on your responsibility for the final outcome. You have the mastery you need at your disposal. Grownups earn paychecks. Be dependable. Happy Full Moon in Taurus–what are you releasing?

Wednesday, Trust, Ace of Wands: Let joy be your guide today. The project that gets you excited? The thought that quickens your pulse and gets your blood pumping? That is where you direct your feet. Take a specific, concrete action, however humble, in the direction of your passion. Trust yourself. (Ouch–Tarot is looking at me again!)

Thursday, Dreams Coming True/Solar Plexus Chakra, Knight of Cups: There is power to manifest in your emotional state. To work it, it’s vital to maintain appropriate boundaries. Your feelings may be intense, but in flux right now. Don’t allow anyone else to step on your dreams in this state, okay? You are in the process of figuring out your own feelings. Don’t let somebody else overrule your process here.

Fiercely protect your dreams. #quotes Click To Tweet

Friday, Love, Four of Wands: Activate the circle of love–contact your best buddies, spend time with your family of freaks, or otherwise invoke the sacred space of the heart today. I don’t care who or how you go about it. Be creative if you need to. But we’re looking to generate a combination of safe space and combine it with warm, loving kindness.

Saturday, Manifest, Seven of Wands: This has a very “march to your own drummer” kind of vibe. Take the risk if (and only if) it’s authentically YOU, your energy, your heart you’re putting out there. That’s a little scary, I know. Far scarier than being a copy of someone else. But this is how you create and hone your authentic life. This is how you make it real!

Sunday, Love Abounds, The Fool: Another heart-centered day. I’m loving all the love here! Approach all with a completely open mind. Look, listen, learn and soak up all that you can. Just do it from a loving space. That love is like a layer of armor; it will keep you safe today.

Overview/Advice, Rebuild, The Devil: Where have you over-indulged? What options have you taken off the table? Because that’s where you need to clean house this week. This card suggests letting go of something that’s been a stumbling block, a barrier between you and fulfilling your purpose. With a full moon in Taurus, I wouldn’t be surprised if some habits of overindulgence or plain, old-fashioned stubbornness are in focus. The Devil suggests an element of collusion, your personal cooperation in creating said situation. So let’s all put on our grown-up pants this week, look at the big picture and be the person we aspire to be. Authentic. Real. Passionate–but still responsible. If we’re going to stick to our guns, let’s be properly armed here. Only do what you can legitimately answer for, but be sure you do what you know, deep down, to be right. Remain steeped in love and the kindness will soften any rough edges.

Affirmation: Magenta – Connect to Your Deepest Inner Knowing. That’s a pretty good, all purpose affirmation. But the second part is implied here, filled in by the rest of the forecast. ACT on your deepest inner knowing. What good is having a connection to it if you don’t do anything with the connection?

I cannot promise you things will always turn out pretty. Believe me, I’m acutely aware of that fact. Life has plenty of pain. I think of pain as a sort of currency, the price we pay for loving, for learning, just for giving a damn, you know? I refuse to waste pain, so I end up having bought a lot for mine. And if the price of chasing my dreams is a skinned ego? Well, I’m ready and willing to pay it.

Because I’m not willing to leave this material plane not having lived every bit of life coming to me!

How about you? Do you have a dream you’re ready to get underway?

Executing the Plan! Weekly Tarot Forecast, Oct 19 – 25, 2015

I think intuition can be a form of answered prayer. You do the best you can – thinking, figuring, planning – and then you pray. –Conrad Hilton

Sometimes I think I’m a really sucky planner. Not that I was born without the Virgo planning superpower. I was, I was! I can plan circles around your average bear.

I plan and plan and plan. I can plan you right into next lifetime, if you give me a minute. I can plan out contingencies better than an insurance company or professional gambler, for God’s sakes.

But then…life refuses to cooperate.

Planning gets you started. Planning gets you fired up, and opening up to the possibilities. But in the end, you gotta move on the plans and be ready to shift course as the situation develops. That’s what we’re looking at, next week. Execute your plans, but be ready to take an alternate route if the need arises.

IMG_4535

This week looks very hands-on; few cups with the feely-feels to distract us. The focus is on Pentacles, with some wands and swords. So actually checking items off your list instead of thinking them up (Swords) is in order. But there will be shifts in the landscape as we go, so you may need to improvise.

We start off making it through the churned up waters on Monday, perhaps indulging in a bit of fantasy on Wednesday, and potentially reclaiming our own power after a blow on Friday. Sunday is a great day to set the stay for next week and through it all? Pay attention, so you can integrate all those little bits and baubles of truth into a more complete understanding. And most importantly, act on what you’re learning along the way!

Monday, Awaiting Results, Six of Swords: This smacks of pins and needles to me. You’re going to make it alright–that’s the promise of the Six of Swords, although you can pretty much expect rough patches and a general feeling of being worn out, too. But do know that you’ve set the stage for making it through current challenges and it’s just a matter of getting there now, okay?

Tuesday, Manifest, Six of Pentacles: Sixes in Tarot denote cooperation, teamwork. So it’s a great time to pitch in to help make others’ plans real, and please, allow them to pitch in for you! This is very much a “together, we can make things happen” kind of day. Generosity is where the magic lies. But as always, your resources are finite, so be discriminating about how you hand them out. Okay?

Wednesday, Blossom, Seven of Cups: Ah, the dreams are popping! But which have substances and which are utter fantasy? Damned if they are possible to sort at the moment. Just be aware, the sorting it all out part may come later.

Thursday, Love, Ten of Pentacles: Connect with your tribe–the people you feel most at home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html with. Good time to feel “rich” with the people you care about most, be they present in body or only in your mind.

Friday, Dreams Coming True/Solar Plexus Chakra, Ten of Swords: What an odd combination of cards! Dreams coming true and the chakra of personal power, paired with the card of betrayal? But take another look, because it’s an instructive mix. To be in control of your life, to make your dreams reality, some boundaries are required! There’s no need to hold grudges for those who have hurt you. But it behooves us all to take personal responsibility for our own well-being. If someone does you dirty? Don’t bother using your emotional energy to curse a perpetrator. Just lock that crap out of your life!

Saturday, Choose Your Battles, King of Wands: Spend your energy where it will do some good.

Sunday, Win or Lose, Ace of Pentacles: What you plan doesn’t determine your success. What you DO determines success. Don’t require perfection. Just get started!

An ounce of action trumps pounds of planning. #quotes Click To Tweet

Overview/Advice, Success & Growth/Sacral Chakra, Temperance. Start mixing it all together! Take what you know, what you need, and what you want and begin putting it into a single package this week. It may not initially appear like it will all fit into the same bag, but it will. Take note of any lessons, and more importantly, incorporate them!

Affirmation, Gray – Learn to Scan Your Body. You can scan not only your physical body, but emotional body as well. Breathe deeply a few times, and just direct your attention on making an imaginary sweep, from top to bottom. Do you notice any areas that seem “off” to you? Cloudy or murky? Give yourself extra attention there. If your neck hurts, do you feel too much “weight on your shoulders?” If you have knee issues, do you feel stable in your life? If your chest is tight, can you “feed your heart” with some warm, loving experience? Imagine golden healing light channeling in through the top of your head to any part of your body that feels cloudy, murky or gray to heal yourself.
