03/30/14: Stress Insomnia / Nine of Swords

9 of Swords Meaning

All the stress? It wears on you and it does impact your health, but the scares are a result are probably blown out of proportion says the Nine of Swords, paired with “Health.” Also be aware of the role guilt and fear plays into the picture, because it does.

Aside: get some sleep for goodness sakes!

My advice: Self-care, and seek support from trusted companions. That in and of itself will make you feel better in an immediate, tangible way. And of course, you can always fill my favorite prescription of a good, long nap!

Is the stress wearing on you?

03/29/14: Tried and True / Hierophant

Situation Hierophant? To me, that smacks of going up against the establishment. Fighting (or maybe counting on) City Hall! Business as usual. Expect the expected. What you see—or more specifically, what you’ve ALWAYS seen—is what you get here. Consistency is not necessarily a virtue, but here, you can bank on it.

In terms of advice, this combo suggest a conservative, by-the-books approach for a predictable outcome. My Uranus would rebel, but you know, sometimes playing by the rules is the right thing to do.

Also, in a fight with “the man” today? I wouldn’t be quick to be out the outlaw/rebel/little guy.

And since the Hierophant is ruled by Taurus, you would be perfectly in character to have some cake when you’re done with the day’s labors. Just order no weird, unpredictable new flavors. You won’t like ‘em!

Tried and true. Tried and true.

Are you seeing more of the same?

10/31/13: Bag of Cookies / 9 of Cups

Nine of CupsOne of my earliest memories is walking around the living room as a small child with a baggie full of cookies my mother had given me. I might have been 4? I don’t know. I don’t know why I had a bag full of cookies. But I do remember clearly the feeling, sheer awe and joy at having ALL THOSE COOKIES. That bag of cookies was the coolest thing ever! I didn’t have to ask for permission or worry about running out if I ate them too fast. I had an endless supply of cookies at my disposal!

It was a good day.

This is the Nine of Cups, a card of fulfilled wishes and satisfaction! I guess if you’re in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, warm blanket, a gun with plenty of ammo, a radio, and a great view once the bunker-time is done could well be the picture of contentment, huh?

It makes me think—safety and satisfaction varies a lot from person to person, from situation to situation.

My comfort zone, my idea of ideal is going to be different from yours. What’s enough, or better than enough, is going to vary. It might be related to finances, or emotional support, or job security or health or creative outlets or spiritual progress. It doesn’t matter, though, what it is…only that you find and appreciate it.

Think today off all the ways you have exactly what you need. Catalog in your head what “enough and then some” translates to in your own life, and see if you don’t already have quite a lot of it. Even if you’re not quite there, I absolutely promise you that looking at the world this way will bring you a whole lot closer.

Appreciate your cookies. Count them up and savor each bite.

Are you finding “enough?” What about “and then some?”

10/30/13: Just How You Are/ 2 of Cups

Two of Cups

“I love you just how you are.” How sweet and reassuring are those words?

My husband and I have a lot in common. We also have a lot not in common. In order to maintain a relationship over the long haul, both must be honored.

It’s certainly a relief to have a happier card to go to today! Remember yesterday, when I mentioned that to make way for the new, the old has to go? Today, we’ve got the new. Yee haw!

This Two of Cups also reminds me especially, everyone is not you! If you are not happy allowing your zombie mate to eat what tastes good to them, somebody is going to be seriously dissatisfied.

Accept those you love as the individuals they are, expect the same in return, and you can forge a meaningful bond. Don’t and you’ll have all kinds of headaches.

There is potential for a very harmonious partnership, a blending of forces. By remaining true to yourself while allowing others the same freedom, you’ve got a great start!

Do you have a new partnership underway?

10/29/13: So Over / 3 of Swords

three of swordsI’m getting flashbacks of tearful anger, tossing trash bags of junk out to the curb. It’s (thankfully) been a very, very long time since I’ve been in that place. Thank the Gods!

Still, I remember. And I feel very much for anybody in that place.

The Zombie Tarot’s version of the Three of Swords always conjures up the phrase, “Done like dinner.” It’s that breakaway time when there is nothing left to salvage. Even more graphic than it’s more traditional brethren, the heart pictured here has a huge fork in it, with a chunk cut out already.

We don’t need to be talking romance. This card often speaks to romantic breakups, but not always. A breakup is a breakup and it can be of any sort—with jobs or ideas or institutions or beliefs. Hell, you could “break up” with your own self image, if it comes to that.

The salient feature is that of severing, a separation, the kind of change where it feels like everything is different and there is a hole left where something that seemed important once resided.

It’s painful sometimes, but also part of life. New cannot arrive if old has not departed. Accept whatever separations come (as if you had a choice), and keep moving. Always, always keep moving.

Are you in the process of separation?

10/28/13: Losses and Gains / 5 of Cups

Five of CupsOy. I’m tired. Are you tired? It’s the Five of Cups today and sometimes, I can find it hard coming up with helpful, hopeful perspectives on life experiences that are just plain painful and difficult. That’s what I’m feeling when I look at this card, looking to give you something workable for today.

The Five of Cups is mourning a loss:  death, breakups, financial downturns, whatever. And the Five of cups hurts, no question about it.

Things may not every be quite the same, and it’s beyond okay to mourn losses. It’s healthy and appropriate. But you want that mourning to be transitory, both because it sucks and because it can keep you from living if you linger too long.

Okay. See the Zombie behind the tree?

Yeah, I’m going there.

Part of what was, remains. Keep touch with what you’ve still got, the changes and lessons and essence of what may no longer be physically present in your life. If the person, situation or experience changed you, then it’s not really passed on completely, is it?

After you are done acknowledging losses, also acknowledge gains. Life must remain balanced to be lived to its’ fullest.

Are you suffering a loss?
