Everyday Tarot, 05/14/11: Traveling Light / Six of Swords

daily-tarot-forecast-six-of-swords-morgan-greerTransitions are just…hard. You know? Even necessary transitions, good transitions, moves to something bigger and better and more suited—still, they are just plain hard. I’m feeling this with the move to A Fool’s Journey from writing the Daily Tarot forecast at Elsa’s place now. Sadness is comingled with anticipation. It’s an odd mix, smacking of bittersweet.

Today’s Tarot is the Six of Swords or “Lord of Earned Success,” associated with Mercury in Aquarius. It’s another card people cringe at because of the sad tone, but just as with other challenging cards, it carries blessing in equal proportion to difficulty. Tarot swords can be challenging because so often, something is being cut out so there’s a sense of loss. But also like other Tarot swords, most often the detachment was the rational choice.

When you see the Six of Swords card, know your journey is already well underway. Detach (Aquarius) your thinking (Mercury) from the old way of life because you’re headed to new destinations. It’s perhaps some comfort to know this journey is not made alone, even though it may feel that way. Like all Tarot sixes, this is a cooperative effort even if it’s not immediately obvious, so you’ll have family, friends or some kind of guide along the way to support you. Acknowledge and appreciate the support you’ve got to get more of it.

work-in-progress(By the way—have I mentioned lately how much I appreciate you all following me here? Because I do.)

Despite the darkish mood, I always find the Six of Swords encouraging. By the time it shows up, the hardest part is behind you. You’ve made the changes, cut the ties, rectified the situations that needed altering. In short, you’ve done what needed to be done. What you’ve got left is no longer what you’ve expected for sure, but due the changes you’ve made, it’s what’s needed. I’d rather have what’s needed that what’s expected any day, even if it can be somewhat uncomfortable getting there.

How are your travels going?

Dixie, This card is about my children – both of them!

Our son went to his 1st football practice last night at his new school & everyone was so welcoming to him – he couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this place. He has his work cut out for him as this school is much more challenging but he’s ready for this. This was a necessary transation for him yet bittersweet when it was decided. (THANKS for helping us w/ this.) He dealt w/ the hardest part & now he knows his “journey is well underway.”.

Our daughter called & informed us she passed her Statistics final & got 15 hours this semester! After the call my husband & I realized she has really “turned the corner”. It was tough dealing w/ all the hurt she endured years ago but it made her stronger, plus we realized she was pretty strong to begin with. You know for her it’s all about the JOURNEY & her’s is “well underway” & it’s as if I see her in a different light.

Alas, my travels are slow going but everyday is a little easier & calmer.

I want to THANK YOU for being one of the “Guides” in this journey for us!!

    • Awww. Thank you, CancerMom! And wonderful news about your kids doing so well now. That makes me very happy; I’m excited to see how they grow into their lives. Probably makes the “calmer” bit a whole lot easier for Mom. They’re good kids.

  3. Personally, I’m so grateful that you’re still doing the daily Tarot. I love your perspective, it helps a lot when I’m reading for myself. When I’m reading for others, things come intuitively and the reading just flows. I still use your old columns at ElsaElsa as reference.

  5. The Six of Swords was the crowning card in my daily reading today. So funny how these things seem to consistently match up.

  7. Bittersweet is right, I have no one to pin me. But I am moving on.

  8. I’m in the same boat, moozie. Not sure if my pun is intended or not, LOL.

  10. I love this card, Dixie. It’s one of my favorites and always feels full of light for me. (The Robin Wood 6ofS is one of my favorites.) There really is a guiding presence that comes with this card. When I feel like the passenger, I’m assured that someone is watching over me and I can rest at last. When I feel more like the the rower, I hope I’m able to help someone get to where they need to go. It’s a card of hope. Wonderful reading today.

    • Thank you, cj. I know a lot of people dislike this card, but to me, it is comforting as well. Love hearing what others see in the cards–expands my own view.

I got this card today too as advice. A corpse popped up that I haven’t thought of in years hoping to rekindle something. I didn’t even engage. Definitely time for moving on.

I’m also really thankful you’re still doing the Daily Tarot column. It’s helped me a lot and I always learn something.

By the way, where can I find the titles you use with the cards? (ie: Lord of Earned Success) I’m finding them illuminating and would like to learn more.

    • They are based on Crowley’s work, but I’m not certain which it is specifically, since they don’t match perfectly with the Thoth deck. (Crowley did a lot of work!) I’m using the Esoteric Deck, Tarot of Color, as a reference. You can find the names online here: http://tarotofcolor.com/cards/

It’s so cool how you pull out a card and write about what it means to you in your life. And yet almost every time I can relate to it myself too, in my current situation in my life. I certainly can relate to the Six of Swords, and I’ve had my guides. Some of them know of their contribution, others probably don’t. But I feel you’ve been one of them. Thank you.

I think your journey is definitely well underway and I think you’ve got your guides too, many of them. This new blog might not hit such a big audience right away but the people who are already here appreciate it a lot. And I am sure you have more ideas which haven’t yet come to life. Looking forward to the rest of the journey here
